Me encanto esta novela histórica, no la podía soltar al final , aprendí mucho sobre la conquista de Chile , y las cinco estrellas es por la manera tan fina de escribir de Isabel Allende

Women are often written out of history or intentionally ignored. In the old “who gets to tell the story” practice, it was often men telling about men, and victorious men would often conveniently ignore anyone who might take some of the hero’s (or heroes) shine or steal some of his (their) thunder. The official story/history of the Spanish founding of Chile follows this same old pattern, and Allende has revised it here to include a female conquistador who had a lot of impact on the Spaniards’ route to Chile from Peru, the founding of Santiago, and the creation of many of the first institutions of civilization. Yes, Inés Suarez was attached intimately to two of the military men (not at the same time) who rode into Chile and challenged the natives to wrest the land from them, but her own strengths and skills, tenacity and loyalty made big impact on the work the men forged.

Allende also includes with sensitivity and compassion some of the native Mapuche side of history, which of course entails the brutality and hypocrisy of Spaniard policies and practices in the treatment of them. The Church and how it turned a blind eye to the colonial savagery gets dinged as well.

But the book is mostly about an otherwise forgotten female, so hurray for women in history and getting their stories told! Allende really brings Inés alive, and gives us history that includes the fact that women were there at the founding of a nation in many important ways.

The author includes sources and historical references at the end that support the story she creatively tells us.

This book has stayed with me for years! An interesting story about a Spanish woman in Chile during the time of the conquistadors. Made me want to try some of the foods she makes - minus the grasshoppers!

This was a very well written book, and the voice of the narrator/main character was very strong. There were a few parts when it got a little slow, but would quickly pick back up and resume the epic, dramatic, and violent storyline. I already have a few other books by Allende picked out to read someday, and look forward to them.

La mágica prosa de Isabel Allende al servicio del recuerdo y la reivindicación de la memoria de Inés Suárez, conquistadora de Chile y fundadora de la actual capital chilena, junto a Juan Valdivia, que, naturalmente y siguiendo los cánones de una historiografía atiborrada de testosterona y con tendencia falocéntrica, es tan recordado como condenada al ostracismo colectivo está la figura de su compañera femenina.

Libro que entretiene y, ante todo, ilustra didáctica y lúdicamente uno de los capítulos de la compleja, portentosa y extensa Conquista de América por el Imperio Español. Es cierto, no obstante, que "Inés del alma mía" es una obra que está lejos de la excelsitud de "La Casa de los Espíritus", ya que, a mi parecer, la forma narrativa elegida por Allende para la historia de Inés Suárez resta épica y emoción para aquellos que como un servidor no conocíamos el destino de los personajes históricos citados.

Al margen de ello, obra notable y de lectura agradable. Unas 3,5 estrellas según mis parámetros.

من كل تلك الفوضي والاضطراب ...تأتي امرأة شابة بسيطة تعمل خياطة..قادمة من بلدة بلاسينثيا شمالي استرامادوا في إسبانيا...حيث تقرر السفر رغبة في اقتفاء أثر زوجها خوان دي مالغا الذي سافر الي نهاية العالم بحثا عن الذهب الذي سيطرت حمي تواجده واكتشافه علي الأذهان..لتفاجأ بعد وصولها بعد رحلة مرهقة ومليئة بالأحداث بوفاته...وتقرر الاستقرار في كوسيكو...مدينة الملوك...في البيرو..

عن كم المآسي والمجاعات والقتل الذي أحدثته حروب الإسبان مع قبائل الإنكا والمابوتشي بهدف اخضائهم لحكم الامبراطور كارلوس الخامس...واجبارهم علي القبول عنوة بالأسبان كفاتحين وليسوا كمغتصبين لأرضهم.....

KimIInés dell'anima mia, storia di una donna spagnola che partecipò alla spedizione di conquista e civilizzazione del Cile nel '500.
Inés è una donna determinata e passionale, che non vuole arrendersi ai costumi che relegano la donna al servizio dell'uomo, in una condizione di inferiorità.
Nata in Estremadura, si innamora e si sposa giovane, scoprendo le gioie del sesso, ma anche le sofferenze del matrimonio. Abbandonata dal marito si inventa modi per sopravvivere e guadagnare, invece di chiudersi in casa e rassegnarsi. Combatte per partire per il Sud America, dove gli spagnoli stavano portando avanti la conquista di territori inesplorati.
Qui Inés scopre una forza ed una determinazione che neanche lei credeva di avere. Impara a rapportarsi agli uomini alla pari, a farli ragionare, ad influenzarne le scelte, anche quelle militari. Si innamora ancora e insegna l'arte amatoria a cavalieri abituati a usare le donne solo per propria soddisfazione.
Inés parte per la spedizione che conquisterà e tenterà di civilizzare il Cile, territorio ancora inesplorato e sconosciuto.
Diventerà una combattente, grazie a lei la spedizione supererà momenti difficili ed avrà infine un ruolo importante nell'edificazione della città di Santiago.
Il romanzo è scritto sottoforma di diario, di memorie, che la donna ormai anziana, scrive per lasciare una testimonianza della sua vita alla figlia adottiva.
È un romanzo crudo, incentrato sulla narrazione delle battaglie, delle violenze che gli spagnoli hanno inflitto alle popolazioni indigene, con la scusa di conquistare e cristianizzare. La stessa donna in guerra è costretta ad una violenza che mai si sarebbe aspettata di poter commettere.
Un romanzo crudo ed avvincente, con un'eroina d'altri tempi, che rivendica il ruolo femminile in un'epoca in cui esso contava ben poco

Em jeito de biografia, Isabel Allende conta-nos a vida de Inés Suaréz. Inés foi uma humilde costureira, de Espanha, que partiu para o Novo Mundo à procura do seu marido e, claro, de uma vida melhor.
Através das memorias de Inés vamos acompanhando o seu percurso, com muitas dificuldades mas que revelaram o forte carácter desta mulher. Descrições da viagem marítima e da conquista do Chile e da fundação da cidade de Santiago. Inés foi também uma mulher apaixonada e que privou de perto com Pedro de Valdivia e Rodrigo de Quiroga.
É certo que é uma narrativa com muitos poucos diálogos, mas o encanto da escrita de Isabel Allende, faz-nos apaixonar por Inés e pela sua vida.
Um excelente romance histórico!

Colonization is such an innocuous sounding word, but the reality is just the opposite. It is the audacity of a powerful country to invade another land and annihilate the indigenous population. Often with the pretense of living together harmoniously, the native population is killed in battle, enslaved, or dies from diseases for which they have no immunity. Is there another way?

The colonization of Chile was no different. In the name of Christianity, the Spaniards 'conquered' this land of great beauty. Allende tells this historically based, epic story through the words of Ines S. Suarez, a courageous and ingenious woman of the 16th century. Ines recalls her life to her daughter as she is nearing death: her difficult early years in Spain, her search for her first husband in Peru and Chile, and her years of toil, battle, friendships and loves in the early days of Santiago.

Allende's writing evokes such a strong sense of time and place. It was often hard to remember that Ines' voice was actually that of the author. I felt Ines' perils to my core. It has been a long time since I have felt such empathy for a character, such an involvement in the story. And yet - the brutality, the vividly graphic battle scenes were sickening. Should the horrors of war be gentrified for the comfort of the reader? Can we judge the actions of those seeking new lands and those trying to defend their land? Would that judgment be a form of 'Monday morning quarterback' syndrome? As difficult to read as some scenes were, I believe the truth can't be watered down. I don't know if there is a more humane way for expansion, but I have thought intensely about it and will continue to ponder this.

I finished this intensely moving book at least a week ago. I am still immersed in the narrative, and my description of its impact on me feels inadequate. It did to me what great literature should do; it grabbed me, challenged me and changed me. I highly recommend this beautifully told story. Isabelle Allende is a remarkable writer.

Una novela a la que tenía ganas hace tiempo pero no veía el momento. Una historia fascinante la de Inés Suárez y lo que vivió. Una mujer dura que sufrió para conseguir algo que no era nada fácil y mucho menos para una mujer en esa época. Inés fue valiente, por irse sola al nuevo mundo, Inés fue atrevida por enamorarse y quedarse con Pedro de Valdivia, pero Inés fue mucho más que debéis descubrir leyendo la novela.
Una historia de amor, de fuerza, de conquistas, de guerras, de penurias y sobre todo, de historia, la historia de la conquista de Chile por los españoles. Narrada en forma de diario por la gran Allende esta novela merece ser leída, sin duda alguna.

lnés de Suàrez nasce all'inizio del Cinquecento in Spagna. lnés sposa, contro la volontà della famiglia, Juan de Malaga, che presto la abbandona per cercare fortuna nel Nuovo Mondo. La giovane non si dà per vinta e, con i soldi guadagnati ricamando, si imbarca anche lei. Giunta in Perù, cerca invano il marito, morto in battaglia; riprende a lavorare come sarta fin quando incontra Pedro Valvidia, un seducente hidalgo, fuggito da un matrimonio deludente e venuto a combattere per la Corona spagnola. La passione infiamma lnés e Pedro che si mettono alla guida di pochi volontari attraverso un deserto infernale, combattono indigeni incattiviti e giungono infine nella valle paradisiaca dove fondano la città di Santiago. Non senza il malcontento di alcuni coloni, cresce la sua autorità a fianco di Pedro, divenuto governatore.

Se non fosse per la Allende, molti, inclusa me, non saprebbero che a fondare Santiago del Cile, è stata una donna. Donna passionale, piena di intraprendenza, ma anche di tante virtù tipicamente femminili.
Pazienza, perseveranza e qualche volta sottomissione (almeno apparente), caratterizzano la protagonista, che saprà in assenza del suo compagno, Pedro, prendere in mano le redini della situazione.
Spaccato della vita del tempo, questo racconto, frutto come spesso accade, di ricerche documentate,
ci rende l'idea pienamente delle difficoltà che incontrarono i coloni spagnoli nell'occupare l'attuale Cile. Sarà pur vero che chi rimaneva nel proprio paese, non aveva certo possibilità di affermarsi. Le nuove conquiste aprivano altri orizzonti ovviamente a discapito degli indigeni locali, che come sappiamo sono stati decimati, e certamente i metodi degli spagnoli, non erano più civili dei loro.
Quando si leggono di nuove conquiste, sono sempre i conquistatori a farlo, per vantarsi.
Ma chi ha subito l'abuso di essere privato della propria terra e delle proprie risorse, in genere non lo racconta. Facevano bene gli indigeni ad esporre le teste dei malcapitati spagnoli. Per me si, era un loro diritto difendere i loro villaggi, le proprie donne e i propri figli.
Bella la storia di Inès Suarez, tristre il modo in cui sono scomparse le popolazioni indigene. La legge dell'arraffa arraffa, ha avuto la meglio , come sempre.
Chissà, forse indios e spagnoli avrebbero potuto convivere e insegnarsi a vicenda il meglio delle loro culture. Utopia? Mancanza di volontà? Forse il problema era che non erano cattolici?....................

Questo libro mi ha scelta in una maniera strana: tramite il catalogo spagnolo della mia biblioteca. Era molto che volevo leggerlo, ma non avevo mai avuto occasione di farlo: quando l'ho visto lì ho guardato la copertina e ho pensato che fosse il suo momento. E così mi sono immersa nella storia di Inès Suarez, l'unica donna tra i fondatori del Cile. Credo che molti prima di leggerlo abbiano pensato che questa sarebbe stata una storia d'amore qualunque, sebbene ambientata nel 1500, ma non è assolutamente così: questo è un romanzo storico a tutti gli effetti, una biografia non ufficiale di una donna forte, coraggiosa e moderna. Per questo, probabilmente, molti sono rimasti delusi dal romanzo. Certo, l'amore non manca: ci sono tre uomini nella vita di Inès, Juan, Pedro e Rodrigo, ognuno dei quali rappresenta un diverso momento della sua vita ed è fondamentale per renderla la persona che è diventata. Tuttavia, nulla in tutto il romanzo sarebbe successo se non grazie alla sua caparbietà e all'unico desiderio che la spinge ad agire per tutto l'arco narrativo: la libertà.
Tutto il romanzo è una grande avventura: la sua infanzia, il primo amore, l'imbarco su una nave verso il sud America, naufragi, stupri, uccisioni, amori, passioni intense, accuse insensate, guerre, battaglie… Tutto contribuisce a rendere questa una storia meravigliosa, compreso un tocco di magia, come nella migliore tradizione sudamericana.
