Okay so this book was everything I ever dreamed and more. 23 stories told by Eva Luna to her lover. Reading the collection of short stories was an experience I will never forget. I feel like a changed person. Some stories resonated with me more than others but overall I felt like i learned something about myself from every single one. I have never felt such a deep connection with an author's writing as I have with Isabel. I wish I had the true eloquence to describe this book in a worthy way but just take this if nothing else.

Cuentos de Eva Luna es una colección de cuentos que escribe un personaje protagonista de otra novela de Isabel Allende, Eva Luna (la cuál tendría que haber leido). Pese a mi falta de trasfondo he podido disfrutar mucho de algunos de los cuentos, como por ejemplo "La Mujer del Juez"y sobretodo "El palacio Imaginado", estos tienen personajes súper interesantes y sobretodo una esencia y ambientación muy atractiva. Pero como he dicho he disfrutado de algunos y no de gran parte, y es que pienso que bastantes de estos pasan completamente desapercibidos. Independientemente pienso que el libro es bastante recomendable y que es bastante difícil que no encuentres algún cuento que te guste.

Alcuni racconti sono carini, ma nel complesso direi che è una lettura abbastanza dimenticabile.

Isabel Allendes prose is the most spellbinding and magical experience. These stories are at once familiar and yet so brand new that the endings summoned so much emotion within me; I only recall a similar feeling from being read fairy tales as a child.

Fue una elección fantástica para acompañarme el feriado largo. Amé todos los cuentos, algunos más que otros.

La historia de Belisa Crepusculario en DOS PALABRAS es tierna, melancólica, romántica, tiene un comienzo triste, pero admiro que Allende pueda dotarle a sus personajes de pasión y capacidad de supervivencia sin que pierdan su encanto inicial, todo eso manejando un ambiente de misterio y realismo mágico bien combinado. Fue el primer cuento y me encantó.

Una recurrencia en algunas cuentos con protas femeninas es que se dedican/dedicaban a la prostitución, pero de vuelta el manejo de las palabras de Allende deja en visto tanto su calidad de escritora como de mujer, ya que siempre trata este tema con dignidad y debido respeto. Así que no cae incomodo de leer.

EL ORO DE TOMÁS VARGAS es mi cuento sororo por excelencia. Amé y disfruté... -Tomás y Amadeo, (el del siguiente cuento) por lejos serian los personajes más odiados. Tan crueles y reales que te producen desasosiego.-

Quisiera hablar de cada uno de los 23 cuentos xD Isabel Allende me sigue sorprendiendo para bien. Espero leer más de ella. Su talento no tiene desperdicio.

Interesante historia sobre la manera en que las personas podemos caer en la ilusión de un ser que nos parece etéreo. Luego, pocas veces, el destino nos lleva de la mano hasta caer rendidos a sus pies.

Relatos impregnados de realismo mágico y una narración envolvente. Las historias son apasionantes y misteriosas; nos narran la vida de personas revolucionarias, valientes, de mujeres y amores imposibles. Las descripciones sensoriales son buenas, la prosa es ágil y cautivadora. El amor, la justicia, la venganza y el destino son los temas principales y, con ellos, Allende se adentra en Latinoamérica y la condición humana.

I've been talking about these as I read along. The last two were not to my taste (and that's true for a few others as well), but overall, the stories were compelling and vividly told. From a writer's perspective, I appreciated that these were told as *tales*. I see a lot of focus these days on character development, interiority, etc., and that's great: we're interested, as people, in other people's interior lives and how character is defined and so on. But I have a great love of plain old storytelling, too, and these stories show that you can be a powerful writer, have a lot to say about life and the world, and do it through storytelling rather than character development. That's not to say that the characters weren't developed--they *were*--but they developed within the context of a set of (generally unusual) events.

My favorite stories were "Clarisa," "The Gold of Tomas Várgas," and "Tosca." A story I found deeply interesting and engaging, but also problematic on multiple fronts was "Walimai."

I wasn't fond of how many stories involved sexual violence and the romantic appeal of a victim, but that unfondness was overcome by how much I loved the evocation of place and the truths about human nature that the stories opened up.

I want to try reading her in Spanish if I ever make my way to the end of Leidy Tabares, La Niña Que Vendia Rosas.

Qué maravilla la habilidad narrativa de Isabel Allende. Nunca la había leído. Me conmovió y me dejó sorprendido. Me gustó mucho el relato final de este libro, me generó mucha nostalgia al notar que está basado en un hecho trágico de la historia de mi país.

I loathed this. I know that authors write characters who do not have the same views as they do, but I usually need something in-text to counter it. Even LOLITA had Dolores crying and running away. I think the worst thing is that there were truly excellent stories here, but they were interspersed with some especially rancid ones. It's going to be interesting working through this again.
