This is the first time we get to experience Renji and Rukia’s backstory, and it’s not a pretty one.
I really fell in love with Renji’s character in this volume. Kubo does such an amazing job of crafting these complex narratives and stories. It’s really a treat to be in the Bleach universe.
A good addition to the Bleach story. The fight between Ichigo and Renji is very intense. I love that the reader can see why they fight and that they both care for and want to protect Rukia. The few pages of back story of Renji and Rukia are some of my favorite in the whole manga.
4 stars. Decent volume. I really liked the ichigo fight at the end. His resolve was set and he accessed his true power. I like how we are learning more about the different companies. We are meeting nor characters and cool weapons. What is a Sansetsukon user? Does it mean num chucks
Beautiful fights, beautiful backstories (and flashbacks with that Fear/Resolve lesson), and beautiful new characters (ie Hanataro). A bit more in depth, Hanataro is, perhaps, one of my favorite characters (which probably doesn't mean much consider there are so many characters I love and adore), but Hanataro is special because of his lack of combat ability. He has his worth, though he may be a bit insecure, and he doesn't need to be an awesome fighter to be important. I also think he helps shine a more positive light on Orihime as well, who is similar in her lack of combat ability. With Orihime it can be easy to see her gender as a reason for her lack of desire to fight, she can use Tsubaki, but as mentioned during the fight she's involved in she doesn't have that murderous intent. However, Hanataro is helpful in reminding readers that one doesn't need to be able to fight to have worth. what Hanataro and Orihime can do in regards to healing and protection are extremely important.
