The fight between Renji and Ichigo was amazing. This was definitely the most exciting volume yet. And as expected Renji and Rukia had a deep bond. Not surprised by that at all.
Meh, more running, more Soul Society drama. Fighting cannon fodder. 3rd string middle squad officer trying to get at Orihime defeated by Uryū. Still hard to believe Ganju defeated Yumichika. It pains me to know there are 60 more volumes of Yumichika going on and on about beauty (Sigh). The fight between Ichigo and Renji is good. It is not a bad volume but still.
I know the background exposition is for the readers and not for the characters. But dang sending Ichigo into the Soul Society with no intel or decent maps is just annoyingly bad planning. I mean Ganju is a local and still has no idea. But having read through the story once already we know who Urahara and Yoruichi are and they should have provided better maps at the least.
Definitely an exciting and action packed arc. Love the world building of the Soul Society and the newly ( yeah) introduced characters (and this part started my excitement to the whole new level for the future chapters)
Best fight scene so far in this entire series. Which is awesome because this is only volume 11, so that means there are a lot more fight scenes coming up. I have to admit I didn't expect to like Renji as much as I do. His back story, and Rukia's back story are so sweet and sad at the same time. It explains a lot about his behavior since Rukia returned. I'm really having fun learning who all of the different Soul Reapers and Captains are. There are a lot of Japanese terms in this manga, and many of them seem sort of difficult to pronounce. I'm far enough into the story that I think I'm going to start watching the anime so that I can understand the pronunciation for so many of the words I'm struggling with. Like "Zanpaku-to" and "Seireitei". I like that the translator kept these words from the original Japanese version, but I'm weird about needing to know if I'm pronouncing something correctly in my head while I'm reading. Does anyone else feel that way?
Mary Sue and Co venture through the sewer systems on their quest to save Rukia with the help of an errant soul reaper. Mary Sue battles Renji.
It is through Hanataro and Renji that we learn more about how the soul society works and is arranged geographically. We also get stories from each of them that involve Rukia. Hanataro speaks of Rukia's kindness. Renji gives us the real story of Rukia's past, which I found quite fascinating.
Even though I don't like Ichigo very much, I do enjoy Bleach for the story. There's plenty of action in this volume and besides Ichigo's Mary Sue BS it's quite good. I almost died when Ichigo said, "I don't WANT to kill you, I'm GOING to kill you." Zzz. Did he really just say that? Whatever, on to the next.
This volume was much better than the last. As we slowly get closer to saving Rukia, we learn more about her and the people who love her. I loved hearing about Rukia and Renji’s backstory and how they became soul reapers, and I loved hearing how Rukia’s kindness made Hanatarō want to help Ichigo save her. I liked how we got to see Ichigo’s motivation to save Rukia grow by hearing how she felt about him and their friendship. I liked the fight between Ichigo and Renji, and I feel like it was much better than the previous fight from the previous volume.
Ichigo fights 'baldy'. Gangu fights 'pretty boy'. Uryu fights a big guy. Ganju and Ichigo get an ally from within the Soul Reaper society, Hanotaro. Chad's stomping around trying to find the others. Renji fights Ichigo and Renji's last words are, 'Save Rukia.'
