This rhyming book about a bookmobile librarian who accidentally shows up at a zoo & gets all the animals wild about books is very amusing.

It is slightly on the longer side text wise, so it may be better for older preschoolers and elementary students who can sit through longer works.

Beautiful artwork with plenty of detail and fun expressions on faces.

Kids voted to give it 5 stars.

A delightful homage to Dr. Seuss about a caring librarian who meets all the wishes of her Bookmobile patrons, who just happen to be zoo animals. It's hard to pick a favorite verse, but since I love Rowling, it would probably be: "She even found waterproof books for the otter, who never went swimming without Harry Potter.” By the end of the book, the animals have been so spurred to creativity by all their reading, that they become authors as well, resulting in a hilarious section of bug haiku. (Unfortunately, the "scorpion gave each a stinging review.") LOL. Don't miss this terrific book dedicated to the love of reading!

This is one of the very best books I know to get a kid excited about reading. “It started in the summer of 2002, When Springfield librarian Molly McGrew, By mistake drove her bookmobile into the zoo.” What follows? The animals go wild, simply wild, for books, of course. “Giraffes wanted tall books and crickets craved small books, While geckos could only read stick-to-the-wall books. … She even found waterproof books for the otter, Who never went swimming without ‘Harry Potter.’” Marc Brown of ‘Arthur’ fame does the art and Judy channels her PhD in Folklore (!) into a Seussian-inspired passion for fast-paced rhymes in this delightfully energizing and reading-reaffirming romp through the wide world of books. I noticed online this book has sold over 500,000 copies. That's zillions in the contemporary kids book category! (My kids book sold 50,000.) 20 years later this book is still incredibly popular for good, good reason. Highly recommended.

This is a picture book story of a mobile library librarian who accidently drives into a zoo. The animals are very curious and can’t wait to learn about reading. I love books about books, and this struck me as one that could be a classic.

I recently used "Wild About Books" as the introductory story for a family program at our public library, and the audience was engaged from beginning to end! Its lyrical rhymes, clever quips, and vivid illustrations make this one of my favorite, go-to books to read aloud.

Book Review of Wild About Books by Judy Sierra and Marc Brown

Judy Sierra and Marc Brown encourages children to read in the picture book, Wild About Books. When Molly started reading all the animals watched from a distance at first, just like many young readers when they are expected to read. Whenever Molly started reading out loud “In a flash, every beast in the zoo was stampeding. To learn all about this new something called reading.” Once they started reading, they really went “wild about wonderful books.”

I would recommend this book to children that don’t really enjoy reading that much. This book shows little kids that books could be wonderful and magical. Just like in the book it says, “If the animals seem hard to find – They are snug in their niches, their nest, and their nooks, Going wild, simply wild, about wonderful books.”

I'll admit that I was initially drawn to this book because the main character shares my name. However, I ended up finishing this cute children's book because of the story! Sierra's book is filled with rollicking rhymes, and amazing illustrations. I loved how each animal in the zoo had a different taste in books (just like humans do!) and how the animals even began writing their own novels! This fun story is a great way to introduce young readers to the joys of reading, while incorporating many literary devices at the same time.

Perfect picture book for book lovers and animal lovers, as a librarian visits the zoo in the bookmobile by mistake, and the animals all fall in love with reading books and learn to write their own! The giraffes read books about basketball and skyscrapers; Molly the librarian finds waterproof books for the otter and joke books for the hyenas; the monkeys toss around a banana cookbook; and, in my favorite whimsical touch (because this was my favorite book as a child), the crocodiles read Peter Pan, with the page open to the scene where the crocodile swallows Hook's clock. You could read this book over and over again and discover new things in the intricate visual details. Such a treat for book lovers to peruse and fall in love with! Colorful, vibrant illustrations by Marc Brown.

Although Wild About Books came out before Born to Read I read them in reverse order--lucky me! ☺ Now I see why people who had read this first were disappointed with Judy Sierra's second book. I agree! This is better than Born to Read!

Really, really cute! The animals in the zoo create their own library by writing their own books. The story is told all in rhyme and I don't know which is cuter--the delightful pictures or the sweet, clever play-on-words!

An all around treat-to-read, for young and old!

Highly recommended!
