Wild at Heart Field Manual: A Personal Guide to Discover the Secret of Your Masculine Soul

In his book Wild at Heart, author John Eldredge thrust a generation of men, young and old, toward a journey to recover true masculinity?the soul of a man as God designed him.

If you've already begun the journey, you know how thrilling?and hard?it can be. So you may have longed for a tool to maximize the impact, a guide to show the way. Packed with new information and insights, the Wild at Heart Field Manual guides you along "the road less traveled." Filled with probing questions, creative exercises, and space to record personal field notes, this companion volume is designed to transition you from reading about the wild heart to living from it.

For too long, the call of Christianity to men has evoked no higher goal, ultimately, than becoming a "nice guy." No wonder many men are bored to tears with church. The hero instinct has been trained out of them. But Eldredge invites men to come alive again, to find their great battle, adventure, and beauty.

If you dare . . . keep reading. Your life will never be the same.

Wow. This has been one of the most influential books that I have read.

John Eldredge is a Christian author with a strong understanding of God and the role of men in this world.

I think that all men should read this book and any woman that would like to better understand how men were meant to become.

The Field Manual is a decent companion to Wild at Heart. While this book isn't for men who are content with their life, it's helpful for those looking for a change.

This workbook based on Eldredge's classic "Wild at Heart" was equally impactful to my life as the original book--that is to say both were DEEPLY impactfully on my life.

The connections to movies each chapter pulls in really drove home the theme of each chapter and, along with the workbook questions of application, were the perfect combination to provide me and my life with significant insights and breakthroughs!

I cannot more highly recommend this workbook--though it does require the reading of the original book as well (if you haven't). ;)

I thought the book had some good fundamental principles to apply to your life. Men are different from women, they do have different needs, society is not showing appreciation but rather shaming those needs, and men need to step up. Unfortunately, the author doesn't have the best doctrine. He constantly insist that God audibly speaks to him, he says our flesh is the sole reason for our sin and then implies we do not have responsibility for it. He also implies that the Devil is attacking all of us, when in fact the devil cannot be everywhere at once. I seriously doubt the Devil is aiming his sights at me!
Besides the doctrine, he makes other mistakes too. He uses false reasoning like, if we do something inherently when we are born then it must be something natural and good for us. He says we are the hero in the story, when I think clearly God has nothing indefinitely hinged on us and we are feasibly replaceable (where's the humility?). He also does a lot of conscientious biblical teaching, which is where you apply what your conscience says to others.
If you know your doctrine and you are a fast reader then it might be worth your time to read it. He certainly does say some decent knowledge about manliness. However, don't read this book if you are new to doctrine because you won't know the truth from the lies.

This is the field manual for the book Wild At Heart. Mine is very worn from having been worked through 4 times. This is a great resource if you are working through Wild At Heart, either by yourself or in a group. It will help you really examine and work through the book.

This workbook is well laid out with lots of room for answers, and a number of little sections to help you on your journey as you work through it. Some of these supplemental sections are:

A Break in the Clouds
From the Map
Warning!
Dispatch
Getting Your Bearings
Each chapter which parallels the book, begins with a 'Gut Reaction' - what is your first take on that chapter in the book? This helps set the bearings for where you will go in that chapter. As you work through it you will be drawn deeper and deeper into the masculine journey.

Eldredge begins each chapter with quotes that span church history and denominations. He must be one of the most widely read men I have encountered. He draws from that breadth of knowledge to show a variety of views on topics and tries to help you see where God is wanting to work in your life.

The one drawback, if you use it in conjunction with the DVD curriculum, is that the DVD does not follow the book exactly, and with 12 chapters in the book and field manual that follow each other exactly, and 8 in the DVD, it doesn't seem weighted evenly.

The Field Manual is indispensable if you are going to work through the DVDs and is a great supplement to the original book. For you, or other men in your life, this book will be a great tool on your journey to authentic Christian manhood.
