When my boss promoted me to the office manager or lead tech (pharmacy), his business partner lent me this book, saying that it helped him.
I committed myself to reading it, though not really expecting to like it. I was expecting things along the lines of manipulation tactics and ways to deal with troublesome employees. Kind of negative stuff, really... stuff that would annoy me.
While I didn't always agree with what was written, it was actually overwhelmingly positive, and it focused entirely on making changes in your own thinking, in your own perspective, to become a more effective leader. It wasn't about bossing people around, as I had feared.
Much of what the book says seems obvious... but it's often the obvious that gets overlooked. Can this book help you? Yes... to varying degrees for different people. Will it help you? Depends on you, but it won't hurt.
Short and sweet to the point leadership read. Some great points that make you think and help understand how to apply them to your everyday life. Whether you strive to be a leader or not, this book helps us understand how much influence we have on other people just through daily tasks.
Whatever you will accomplish is limited by your ability to lead others. It's said that in our life we have influence over ten thousand human beings throughout our lives and since leadership has a multiplying effect it's staggering what legacy a leader could leave behind. 101 will help you improve, conquer and prosper!
Nuggets of Truth
Lead with tomorrow as well as today in mind Know and do the things that give high returns When the leader lacks confidence the team lacks commitment He who thinks he leads but has no followers is only taking a walk What stirs your heart? You can only seize what you can see Life is too short not to have fun our best work takes place when we enjoy it Find something you like to do so much you'd gladly do it for nothing. Then do it so well people will be happy to pay you for it. Organize or agonize Don't develop self pity instead of self discipline Stay focused on results To be conscious that you are ignorant to the facts is a great step to knowledge If you let your assets compound the inevitable outcome is growth over time Leadership develops daily not in a day A prime example of muddy reasoning by analogy I really do think people develop stories about themselves and the world and it determines what they do The people who have continued to be successful have a continued growth trajectory It isn't suffering that leads to hopelessness, it's suffering you think you can't control
Full disclaimer: I just read this for the heck of it. I definitely was not interested in what the author had to say and my rating justifies that.
I also did not agree with the very first assessment made by the author: the rule of lids, I do not think leadership affects effectiveness that much for me personally. I stay far away from leadership roles but I don't feel I am so useless lol.
It is no doubt a good book for people looking to get motivated and raise their productivity levels but sadly it is of no use to me.
