Yōko Kamio (神尾葉子) is a popular Japanese manga artist and writer. She is most famous for Boys Over Flowers (花より男子, Hana Yori Dango?), for which she received the Shogakukan Manga Award in 1996. Her work has been translated and distributed in Asia, Europe, and North America.

Yōko Kamio readily admits that she had no intention of becoming a professional manga artist when she was young. Kamio originally went to secretarial school, but her love of drawing soon led her astray. She then eventually entered the professional mangaka field in 1989. In the following years, Kamio published Suki Suki Daisuki, Ano Hi ni Aitai, and Meri-san no Hijitsu in Margaret before she finally created Hana Yori Dango in 1992.

The Hana Yori Dango manga became established relatively quickly in Japan. Many people commended Kamio for her realistic portrayal of high school life and everyday violence through the Hana Yori Dango series. Although Kamio was initially surprised by the confessions of high school violence stated in fan letters, she realized that Tsukushi's fiery character served as a role model for much of Japan's youth and helped others cope with school violence.

Kamio watched as the success of Hana Yori Dango's 1992 début followed through with many more months on the best-sellers list. Voice CDs by SMAP and a live action movie about Hanadan charted the series success in the mid-1990s. By 1995, an animated series for Hana Yori Dango was already in progress and Kamio had also helped pick main leads for the anime show.

Hana Yori Dango ran in the Japanese Margaret magazine as well as the Korean Wink. The series has also been published in Japanese, Chinese, Cantonese, Thai, Korean, French, and English. The anime series has been broadcasted in Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Italy, and has also been licensed and released in the United States. Additionally, it was also recreated in a Game Boy Color game (only released in Japan) during the summer of 2001. With its ever-increasing popularity, Hana Yori Dango was then made into a popular live action TV series in Taiwan titled Meteor Garden. The manga series finally ended in Margaret's August 2003 issue, and the 36th tankōbon which included the Akira special "Night of the Crescent Moon" was released in January 2004 as the manga's final volume.

While Yoko Kamio initially wanted Hanazawa Rui to be the main hero of Hana Yori Dango, due to the outstanding personality of Domyoji Tsukasa (and Domyoji also becoming more popular than Rui) she changed the hero role to Domyoji.

Despite Hana Yori Dango's success, Kamio had originally planned to end the series by Spring 2000. However, in February 2000, at a mangaka conference in Taipei, Taiwan Kamio announced that she would continue writing Hana Yori Dango. At one point, she got so wrapped up in the Hana Yori Dango storyline, that she confessed to having dreams about Doumyouji. Of course, she said that "Falling in love with a character that I created is just disgusting..."

OH MY GOD! SHIZUKANO!

Shizukano is an amazing and perhaps somewhat mysterious entity. The very mention of her name elicits such a strong reaction.

One can only wonder what makes Shizukano so special. Maybe it's her unique charm, her kind heart, or her extraordinary skills.

Perhaps she has a story that is waiting to be told, a story that will captivate and inspire all who hear it.

Every time her name is uttered, it's as if a wave of excitement and anticipation spreads through the air.

People can't help but be drawn to Shizukano, eager to learn more about her and discover the secrets that she holds.

OH MY GOD! SHIZUKANO! She truly is a force to be reckoned with.

When I delved into volume 3, a sense of frustration truly overwhelmed me. Why on earth is Domyoji so clumsy?

It's extremely awkward whenever Tsukushi and Domyoji encounter each other. Undoubtedly, Domyoji has deep feelings for Tsukushi, yet she can't bring herself to be honest, and she remains frustrated with his selfish nature.

Nonetheless, I can empathize with her emotions because he is such a self-centered person. For Tsukushi, he is almost like an enemy. He constantly professes his feelings for Tsukushi.

So many girls claim that Rui is the coolest guy in the F4. But deep down, I truly hope that Tsukasa and Domyoji will eventually fall in love.

This story has its twists and turns, and I'm eager to see how their relationship will develop further.

Character design is truly outstanding! I have a great affection for F4.

Hanazawa Rui and Domyoji Tsukasa are characters with extremely contrasting personalities. Hanazawa Rui is often depicted as gentle, kind, and somewhat introverted, which makes him very charming. On the other hand, Domyoji Tsukasa is bold, confident, and sometimes even a bit overbearing. His flamboyant personality also has its own unique allure.

The combination of these two characters creates a rich and interesting dynamic within the story. Their differences not only make the plot more engaging but also allow the audience to explore different aspects of human nature.

I am so captivated by their characters that I simply can't wait to read the next installment and see how their stories unfold.

Such a quirky and fun manga!

It truly stands out with its unique style and engaging storylines. The characters are vividly portrayed, each with their own distinct personalities that draw you in and make you care about them.

The illustrations are top-notch, adding an extra layer of charm to the already entertaining narrative. Every page is filled with details that make you want to explore further.

I loved this volume from start to finish. It had me laughing out loud at times and on the edge of my seat at others. It's the kind of manga that you can't put down once you start reading.

I can't wait to see what the next volume has in store. If it's anything like this one, I'm sure it'll be just as amazing.

It's truly astonishing how wrong it is that I'm addicted to that.

Every time I try to break free, I find myself pulled back in, as if by an invisible force.

I know it's not good for me, yet I just can't seem to resist the temptation.

It's like a never-ending cycle that I'm trapped in, and I'm starting to feel a sense of helplessness creeping in.

Despite my best efforts, I keep falling back into the same pattern.

I wonder if there's a way out, a way to break free from this addiction and find a better path.

But for now, all I can do is struggle and hope that one day, I'll have the strength to overcome it.

2.8 stars

This rating of 2.8 stars indicates a somewhat mixed performance. It might suggest that there are aspects that are good, but also others that need improvement.

Perhaps the product or service has some notable features that have earned it a relatively decent score. However, there could be areas such as quality, functionality, or customer service that are falling short.

To enhance the overall rating, it would be essential to identify and address these weaknesses. This could involve making improvements to the product, providing better training to staff, or enhancing the user experience.

By taking these steps, it is possible to increase customer satisfaction and ultimately improve the rating. A higher rating would not only attract more customers but also enhance the reputation of the brand.

In conclusion, while a 2.8-star rating is not terrible, it does present an opportunity for growth and improvement. By focusing on the areas that need attention, it is possible to achieve a more favorable rating and build a more successful business.

In this story, Tsukasa and Tsukushi both engage in violent attacks on different people. However, through these actions, they come to realize that they might actually have something in common after all. Could it be their rather scary violent tempers?

The story also features more of the early nineties fashion, which adds a touch of nostalgia. There's an octopus dance that brings a bit of lightheartedness and fun to the narrative. Additionally, there's a competitive fish-off that further spices up the plot.

With all these elements combined, it's no wonder that I can't help but like it. The story has a unique charm that keeps me engaged from start to finish. It's a blend of drama, action, and a hint of humor that makes it truly enjoyable.

Content warning: assault.

I don't think the manga didn't age well. In fact, I firmly believe that the content was just as problematic in people's eyes during the 90s as it may seem now. The themes and storylines might have been controversial even back then.

Nevertheless, I'm continuing to read it. My main reason for doing so is that I want to experience the entire original work before seeing any adaptations. I feel that it's important to understand the source material in its entirety to fully appreciate any changes or interpretations made in the adaptations.

Moreover, there are some characters in the manga who are truly worth rooting for. Their personalities, development, and struggles make them engaging and likable. Despite the potential issues with the overall content, these characters give me a reason to keep going and see how their stories unfold.

In conclusion, while I acknowledge the possible problems with the manga, I'm still determined to read it through to the end. I hope that by doing so, I can gain a better understanding of its strengths and weaknesses and form my own opinion about its value.
