I was casually scrolling through all of Junji Ito’s books on Libby when this particular one caught my eye. It had no cover image, which was a bit strange, but since it was available to borrow, I thought, why not?

However, the process that followed was far from pleasant. I had to download what is probably my new least favorite Adobe app. Digital Editions makes absolutely no sense to me. I then had to create an Adobe account, which was yet another hassle. And to top it off, I had to change the viewing settings because the book looked completely blank when using the default ones.

Despite the fact that this is one of the better Junji Ito collections I’ve read, I still think the BPL should seriously consider removing this book from Libby. The inconvenience of reading it far outweighs the enjoyment of the content. It’s a real shame because the stories themselves are quite good, but the whole process of accessing and reading the book is just too frustrating.

Maybe the BPL could look into finding a better way to make these books available to readers, or at least improve the current system so that it’s not such a headache to use.

One shotniete na łacinie, „flesh - colored horror” 10/10.

It seems to be an extremely captivating work. However, I should have read it before Tomie and Uzumaki because perhaps it doesn't touch on them at all.

This makes me wonder what unique aspects and horrors this particular piece might hold.

Maybe it presents a completely different kind of terror that is distinct from the well-known works of Tomie and Uzumaki.

I'm intrigued to explore this "flesh - colored horror" further and see how it stands on its own in the world of horror literature.

Despite not being related to Tomie and Uzumaki, it still has the potential to be a remarkable and spine - chilling read.

I can't wait to delve into its pages and experience the horror it has to offer.

Oh, not much here!

Just a collection of disturbing and terrifying short stories by the king of Japanese horror manga.

You know, there are tales of ghost lovers and neighbors who shed their skin.

I mean, who doesn't live next to a school invested with statues that come out at night to fight over severed heads?

I once knew a girl whose hair came alive and lived in the attic.

Slice-of-life stories, ho hum!

But wait! Ah ha ha just kidding.

This book scared the shit out of me.

It was filled with such creepy and spine-chilling scenarios that it kept me on the edge of my seat.

The author's vivid imagination and ability to create a sense of dread were truly remarkable.

Each story was like a little nightmare, pulling me in and making my heart race.

I found myself constantly looking over my shoulder, afraid that something from the book might jump out at me.

Overall, it was a thrilling and unforgettable read that I would highly recommend to anyone who loves a good scare.

\\n  The Junji Ito Horror Manga Collection #3\\n

The chapter Long Hair in the Attic is truly one of my all-time favorites. The storyline is so captivating and the art is so unique that it manages to stick in one's psyche long after reading. In fact, this is a quality that is present in any of Junji Ito's works. Each one has the ability to draw you in and leave you with a sense of unease.

Shimada, in the chapter Headless Sculptures, adds another layer of disturbing to the collection. The concept of headless sculptures coming to life is enough to send shivers down your spine.

* * *

Chapters:

\\n  • Long Hair in the Attic\\n

This chapter is a masterclass in building tension. The idea of long hair lurking in the attic is both creepy and fascinating. Ito's art brings this concept to life in the most vivid way possible.

\\n  • Approval\\n

The story of Approval is a psychological thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat. The characters are well-developed and the plot twists and turns in unexpected ways.

\\n  • Beehive\\n

Beehive is a horror story with a unique premise. The idea of a beehive taking over a town is both terrifying and original. Ito's use of detail in the art makes this chapter even more effective.

\\n  • Dying Young\\n

Dying Young is a tragic and disturbing tale. The story explores themes of death and youth in a way that is both thought-provoking and unsettling. The art in this chapter is particularly striking, with Ito using bold colors and sharp lines to create a sense of urgency and dread.

\\n  • Headless Sculptures\\n

As mentioned earlier, Headless Sculptures is one of the most disturbing chapters in the collection. The concept of headless sculptures roaming the streets is enough to give anyone nightmares. Ito's art brings this concept to life in a truly terrifying way.

\\n  • Flesh-Colored Horror\\n

Flesh-Colored Horror is a short but intense chapter. The story builds to a climax that is both shocking and satisfying. The art in this chapter is simple yet effective, with Ito using minimal detail to create a sense of horror and unease.

This book is not the best work, but it's an okay one.

It serves as a good reminder of what Junji Ito's works look like.

In terms of the storyline, it's not that memorable.

I only liked the stories of "Headless Sculptures" and "Flesh Colored Horror".

For Junji Ito, I'm always a big fan of his drawings.

He never fails to amaze with his unique and detailed art style.

The way he portrays horror and the supernatural is truly captivating.

Even though the storyline might not be the strongest point of this book, his drawings alone make it worth a read.

They add an extra layer of depth and atmosphere to the stories.

Overall, it's an okay book with some亮点, especially for fans of Junji Ito's art.

Oh wow, that was truly fucking WEIRD!!!!

Now, let me say that out of all of Ito's works I've read, these are easily the worst. I don't know, they just felt different. I mean, it makes sense since this is early on in his career, but still, yeuck.

Okay, let me break down my opinions on all the short stories.

The Long Hair in the Attic: Honestly, it kind of sucked!!!! The story felt all over the place, the body horror seemed to have no connection to the story, and it didn't really make sense. I'd give it a 2/5.

Approval: This was literally not a Junji Ito story. You can't tell me it was. There was no body horror!!!!! I was thoroughly disappointed in this one. It's easily the worst of this anthology (?). I'd rate it a 1/5.

Beehive: It made no sense and wasn't scary. I will say though that the ending was a bit freaky, but coming off of Tomie, this was nothing. Like I said, the ending was the only redeemable thing about this story. I'd give it a 1/5.

Dying Young: Yet again, there wasn't really any body horror, which was disappointing. I will say I liked how the endings of these stories slowly get more and more messed up. This one was a bit insane, but overall, I didn't really like the plot. I can see if/why people would like this, but it just wasn't for me. I'd rate it a 2.5/5.

Headless Sculptures: Now we're getting somewhere!!!! There was really fucked up body horror to the extreme. My god, that one shot of the teacher actually made me nauseous. It's the first time ever that Ito has managed that with me. I will say though that this isn't the best of this anthology simply because the ending was anticlimactic. I'd give it a 3/5.

Flesh Colored Horror: EASILY THE BEST. It was so incredibly fucked up. Everything about it was great. Did it make sense? Not really. But did the narrative, ending, and visuals make up for it? 100%. Also, I love when Ito explains stuff. I know it's literally the antithesis of a Junji Ito novel, but when the motivations for a character's insanity are briefly touched on, it's like a chef's kiss. I'd give it a 4/5.

Overall, this was just mid. The stories did get progressively better though, so there's that. I think Ito was still trying to find his style here, so I'm not too mad at finding it mediocre, as I know more works I'll enjoy await me >:).

I have to say that I really loved the "headless sculptures" and the "flesh-colored horror" that I came across.

Although this particular collection wasn't my absolute favorite, it still managed to be quite a lot of fun.

The headless sculptures had a certain eerie charm to them. They seemed to convey a sense of mystery and incompleteness, which made me want to look at them more closely and try to figure out what the artist was trying to express.

As for the flesh-colored horror, it was definitely something that caught my attention. The vivid and somewhat disturbing colors and forms made it stand out from other works I had seen.

Even though this collection didn't top my list of favorites, it was still an interesting and enjoyable experience. It showed me that art can come in many different forms and that there is always something new and unexpected to discover.

Horror!

The very word sends shivers down our spines. It evokes images of the unknown, the terrifying, and the macabre. Horror has the power to grip our imaginations and keep us on the edge of our seats.

Some people are drawn to horror, seeking out the thrill and excitement that comes with being scared. They enjoy the rush of adrenaline that courses through their bodies as they face their fears. Others, however, avoid horror like the plague, unable to handle the intense emotions it elicits.

But love it or hate it, horror is an inescapable part of our culture. It has been a source of entertainment and inspiration for centuries, and shows no signs of going away anytime soon. So, the next time you feel a twinge of horror, embrace it and see where it takes you.

The beehive was truly a remarkable thing. It received a 5/5 rating from me as I absolutely LOVED THAT ONE.

However, the rest of the items or experiences didn't speak to me as much though.

Perhaps it was the unique charm and functionality of the beehive that caught my attention. The way the bees worked together in harmony to build and maintain their home was truly fascinating.

On the other hand, the other things may have lacked that special something that would have made them equally appealing to me.

It could be that they didn't have the same level of detail, or maybe they didn't fulfill a particular need or interest of mine.

Nonetheless, the beehive will always hold a special place in my heart as it was a truly outstanding discovery.

The stories are truly amazing, and I'm extremely proud to state that I've become completely addicted to them!

I was so engrossed in reading that I truly relished every moment of it. In fact, I can't help but exclaim, I WANT MOREEEEE!

I actually managed to finish the entire THWOJI Collection. It nearly took me a month to complete the whole collection, but let me tell you, it was absolutely worth it!
