In this thrilling mystery, Senior FBI Agent Nick Pellisante is on the hunt for the ruthless and heartless Mafia boss, Dominic Cavello. Wherever Cavello appears, trouble follows. After years of pursuit, Nick finally manages to catch him and bring him to court.

Another key character is Andie DeGrasse, a single mom who becomes a juror in the Dominic Cavello case. Andie didn't initially want to be on the jury, but fate has other plans and she ends up as a juror in this high-profile case.

If you're familiar with Mafia thrillers, you know that when a Mafia boss is caught, there is a great deal of danger. And in this case, a lot of blood is shed. We're talking about someone who kills for fun at times. Shortly into the story, we are introduced to an Israeli named Richard Nordeshenko, a hired killer with multiple identities. In fact, Richard isn't even his real name, and that's the name his wife and son know. He tries every trick in the book to free Cavello.

The first jurors of the case are bombed while on a bus heading to their motel. They had to be sequestered for their protection from Cavello's people, but even with all that security, the jurors (except Andie) die. Andie's son Jarrod, who was celebrating his birthday that day and was supposed to have a celebration at the motel, is also killed. After this tragic event, Cavello's case has to be adjourned to select a new jury and have a re-trial.

As they recover, Nick and Andie, who are both off the case, start to build a deep relationship. This relationship becomes their strength as they work to ensure Cavello stays in prison. However, they have to do this without the help of the FBI. Nordeshenko comes up with an even bigger plan to help Cavello escape, and this time he succeeds after bombing the court and killing several cops. Nick and Andie first trace Nordeshenko, whose real name is Kolya Remlikov, to lead them to Cavello. They find him in a remote area and make sure he can no longer hurt anyone. Andie, still mourning the loss of her son, takes matters into her own hands and goes after Richard to get justice for her son.

James Patterson is a well-known author, but this particular book of his is not my favorite. It's just okay, not outstanding. I had high expectations, especially regarding the trial. I was really looking forward to reading more details about it or having an ending that centered around the trial. However, the book ends with a time jump of one year. Surprisingly, I did enjoy this short addition at the end. It gave the story a bit of a different perspective and left the book on a relatively high note. Overall, while it didn't meet all of my initial expectations, it still had some redeeming qualities.

A friend very kindly bestowed upon me her collection of audio CDs.

Consequently, I promptly drove my car down to the auto repair shop to have my CD player repaired.

The first CD I selected had such a low volume that I couldn't hear it clearly in the car. However, I'm glad to report that my second choice was far more successful.

Most of the books in the collection were abridged, but this particular one was a complete novel, skillfully narrated by Joe Mantegna. Although it wasn't earth-shattering, it managed to keep me entertained during several hours of driving.

The two main characters are Nick Pellisante, a detective tasked with bringing in mafia boss Dominic Covello, and Andie, a member of the jury chosen to try him. Nick is an FBI agent who has been pursuing Covello for a significant portion of his career. Andie, on the other hand, is a single mother and part-time actress who really doesn't want to be on the jury at all.

Their paths intersect at various points during the case, and their shared desire to see Covello brought to justice leads to a satisfying conclusion.

Initially, this seemed like it was going to be a court case-based fiction, but fortunately, it expanded into something a bit more interesting. My main issue with it was the repetitive structure of "build-up, emergency, solution" that seemed to be present throughout the book. After a while, it became rather irritating and predictable.

I had only read one Patterson book before, namely 1st To Die, and this one felt similarly formulaic. As a result, I won't be in a hurry to read another one.

Patterson's writing style is extremely simple and basic. In fact, some of the chapters are literally only 2 pages long. However, in a rather remarkable way, with what seems like minimal effort on his part, he managed to hook me completely with this story.

The characters in the book aren't even developed in a particularly detailed or rapid manner. Nevertheless, I still find myself completely unable to stop turning the pages.

Someone once referred to this book as a 'long short' read, and that description is truly spot-on. The over 400 pages might initially look quite daunting, but in reality, you breeze right through it. It's a very quick and easy read, and yet, it's also a really good one.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone looking for an engaging and enjoyable story that doesn't require a huge investment of time or mental effort. It's the perfect choice for a relaxing weekend or a quick break during a busy day.

Overall, I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this book, despite its simplicity. Patterson has a real talent for telling a story that keeps you engaged from start to finish.

Judge And Jury

James Patterson, born on March 22, 1947, in Newburgh, New York, is a highly productive author. He has penned various types of novels, including detective stories, thrillers, science fiction, romance, and young adult novels. His first book was published in 1976, and 20 years later, he gave up his advertising career to focus solely on writing.

This particular book is set in 2006 in the wealthier part of America, where there is more than just illegal money circulating. Dominic, a crazy mobster, is only interested in causing trouble, and he has finally been caught for his illegal weapons activities. Nick, a good cop, has his own personal struggles at home with his girlfriend. Andre, the detective, is the only survivor of the hotel bombing and is dedicated to bringing down Cavallo and solving the case.

The theme of the book is that you can run but you can't hide. This is exemplified by how Cavallo fled the country after his case failed, but the FBI still closely monitored him and ultimately arrested him for his misdeeds. Senior FBI agent Nick Pellisante is getting closer to the notorious mob boss "The Electrician" when the planned sting goes horribly wrong. Two FBI agents are killed, the boss is injured, and Pellisante vows that the Electrician will next be moving from a jail cell.

I found it ironic that Nick, who is such a tough cop, is a broken-hearted sucker outside of the station. I also found it very ironic that juror 11 tried so hard not to be on the jury but ended up as a juror anyway.

James Patterson books are truly a breeze to read.

I absolutely adore the fact that none of his chapters exceed 3-4 pages in length. It makes for a quick and engaging reading experience.

This particular book seems to follow the standard formula that Patterson is known for.

A single mother finds herself called to serve on the jury during the trial of a notorious mob boss. However, things take a dark turn when the mafia guy decides to exact revenge on the jury.

As a result, the mom's life is changed forever. She is thrust into a dangerous situation where she must rely on her wits and courage to survive.

In the end, she teams up with an FBI agent working on the case to ensure that the mafia don is brought to justice, whether through legal means or otherwise.

Overall, it's a thrilling and action-packed story that keeps you on the edge of your seat from beginning to end.

What a truly great story this is!

Once I started reading it, I simply couldn't put it down. Every single page had an irresistible charm that drew me in more and more.

The story begins with single mom Andie, who tries every possible means to get out of jury duty. However, fate has other plans, and she ends up filling the 11th spot on the jury. Little does she know that she is about to become part of one of the biggest trials of the year.

Dominic Cavello, a truly horrible man, is known as the Electrician. He is the feared mafia boss who has committed unthinkable atrocities and killed countless people who stood in his way. Now, in this trial, he finally has to answer for all of his sins.

On the other side, we have Nick Pellisante, who works for the FBI and has been following Cavello for years. He has amassed all the evidence he needs to convict the mafia boss. But Cavello, being the devious criminal that he is, has a different plan up his sleeve, one that will shake everybody's worlds.

As the trial progresses, Andie's life takes a turn for the worst. Suddenly, everyone else has to regroup and come up with new plans to deal with this unexpected change.

This book is an absolute page-turner that will suck you in from the very beginning and keep you on the edge of your seat all the way till the end. It's a thrilling and captivating read that you won't want to miss.

Now I am truly hooked.

This was such an incredibly great, remarkably easy and highly creative book. From the very first page, I was completely hooked.

The characters in this book were so endearing and easy to fall in love with. It was a breeze to follow their adventures along with the story. The author has an amazing talent for creating mental visions that are so easy to picture and vivid. The surroundings and the characters' actions felt so real that it was as if I was right there in the story.

I would without a doubt highly recommend both this author and this book to anyone who loves a good read. It is a must-read for all book lovers out there.

This is a first read for this author.

Is it Patterson who wrote it, or is Andrew Gross the writer?

Either way, I'm not impressed with the writing. It's not horribly bad, but it's sort of stock stuff.

Overall, just barely two stars for me.

I'll probably not try another Patterson titled book because of this mediocre read. His books are a-plenty, but other than prolific titles, I don't get the attraction.

Maybe Gross does the writing and Patterson grabs the dough.

Lustbader did a decent job taking over Ludlum's Bourne series. Larry McMurtry had Diana Ossana collaborate on a couple books, plus the Broke Back Mt. screenplay.

The jury finds that co-writing with a big star can be successful.

However, I judge this Patterson title not so successful.

Perhaps in the future, Patterson and his co-authors should strive to create more original and engaging works to truly capture the hearts and minds of readers.

Until then, I'll be looking elsewhere for my literary entertainment.

When Andie is summoned for jury duty, she is filled with dread.

She has no desire to be involved in this trial whatsoever. During the jury selection process, she does everything in her power to avoid being chosen.

However, unfortunately for her, she ends up with a seat in the jury box.

The trial is for a notorious mob boss, Dominic Covello, who has killed countless people and managed to escape justice each time.

Nick Pellisante, an FBI agent, has been pursuing Covello for years.

Finally, he has him behind bars and awaiting trial, and he can't wait to see him sentenced to life in prison.

When the jury is sequestered, Covello doesn't waste any time in having his people try to influence them.

Will he manage to get away with murder once again, or will he finally face the consequences of his actions?

I have been a fan of James Patterson's books for a long time.

While his books may not always be of the highest literary quality, they are perfect for a quick and entertaining read.

The fact that Joe Mantegna read this story made it even more enjoyable.

Criminal Minds is one of my favorite shows, so I could easily relate to the reader in this book.

I have plans to catch up on all of my James Patterson reading in the new year.

I'm already up to date with the Women's Murder Club series.

In this book, I appreciate the way Andie deals with the situations she is presented with.

She is a mother with a strong will, and the relationship she develops with Pellisante along the way benefits them both in their personal lives.

It's a quick and enjoyable read that I can easily fit into my commute to and from work.

This novel had the potential to be truly outstanding. However, it falls short in a significant way.

The author painstakingly details the heinous crimes committed against the victims, making their suffering palpable. But when it comes to the perpetrators, they are portrayed as almost superhuman and impervious to any form of pain or consequence.

This imbalance in the portrayal undermines the overall impact of the story. It fails to provide a comprehensive and realistic view of the criminal justice system or the human condition.

Despite the initial promise that the novel held, I cannot in good conscience recommend it. The lack of parity in the treatment of the perpetrators and the victims leaves a lot to be desired.

I would rate this novel a mere 3 out of 10 stars. It has room for improvement, but as it stands, it does not meet the standards that I would expect from a great work of fiction.
