With each passing page, I found myself on the edge of my seat, eagerly anticipating what would happen next. It was as if I had been transported into the courtroom itself, sitting right there with the jury, experiencing every moment of the intense drama.

The first half to two-thirds of this book is excellent. Patterson crafts a truly despicable 'bad guy' in Cavello, someone who is willing to stop at nothing to escape. Meanwhile, the 'good guys' are resolute in their determination to see him brought to justice by following the law.

Had this trend persisted, 'Judge and Jury' would undoubtedly have been a 4 or 5-star book. Regrettably, the protagonists then decide to start breaking the law and go rogue, just like Cavello. The book's theme thus shifts from law-abiding perseverance to 'vigilante justice', and in the process, it loses some of my interest.

It's a shame because the initial setup was so promising. The contrast between the immoral Cavello and the law-abiding heroes was engaging. But when the good guys take a wrong turn, it disrupts the balance and makes the story less appealing.

Overall, 'Judge and Jury' has its strengths, but the change in the protagonists' behavior detracts from its overall quality.
