Deception Point is Dan Brown' third novel, and his last novel NOT featuring his celebrated character Robert Langdon. It reads pretty much like Brown's other books, which might best be described as "guilty pleasure thrillers written specifically to attract potentially lucrative offers from big-budget film producers." It reads a lot like a Michael Crichton knock-off: a completely implausible and ridiculously complicated conspiracy plot based on actual scientific research and theories populated with disposable cardboard characters and fueled with enough action and suspense to keep you reading even though you know it's basically the literary equivalent of junk food.

Still one of my all-time favorite books. It's fun to reread it every couple of years. This was my first time listening to the audiobook. It was well done.

رحلة تبدأ من مكتب الاستطلاع مع راشيل سيكستون وطلب عاجل لمقابلة رئيس الولايات المتحدة زاك هيرني
لتجد نفسها تتنقل من طائرة لطائرة لتتوجه في النهاية الي القطب الشمالي و ميلاني الجرف الجليدي في كندا



حيث عثرت ناسا اخيرا وبعد طول انتظار على صخرة نيزكية بها مستحاثات حشرية فضائية لتصبح الدليل الأهم على وجود حياة خارج كوكب الأرض
لتجد ناسا نفسها تنتقل من رتبة دجال الي رتبة صانع المعجزات

إن الدفاع ضد الهجوم السياسي يحتاج إلى المنطق، أما الدفاع ضد الهجوم الشخصي فيحتاج إلى العاطفة. إن تصارع كل منهما معاً هو عمل من المستحيل موازنته.

يتم احضار علماء مدنيين ليفصلوا في تلك المسألة وتخرج ناسا خارج اطار "مين يشهد للعروسة" ليثبتوا امام العالم عن طريق علماء محبوبون مقدما ومن خارج حدود ناسا ان تلك الصخرة والمستحاثات في داخلها حقيقيين تماما

لنخرج من اثبات وجود حياة خارج الارض لفساد سياسي من رأس امريكا الي اخمص قدميها
ليصل الفساد الي كل المؤسسات المهمة العلمية والسياسية داخل الحكومة

إن الحياة مليئة بالقرارات الصعبة، فكر بذلك، والفائزون هم أولئك الذين يحسنون القيام بها.

أحببت كالعادى تفاصيل دان براون والمعلومات العلمية الشديدة الأهمية والتحدث عن تقنيات واختراعات واجهزة واكتشافات حقيقية تماما وعلى ارض الواقع وفي منتهى التطور على الرغم من قدم الرواية نفسها
ولكن لم استطع ان اجد ما يمكنني ان اقول انه افسد متعتي بالرواية او تركيزي
بعض التفاصيل الزائدة ولكنها مهمة جدا لفهم الأحداث من كل الجوانب
لنصل من ذروة الاحداث لخاتمة مليئة بالمفاجآت المهمة والتغييرات ونهاية متقنة بدون تسرع ابدا

أنه يمكن السيطرة على جميع التحديات من خلال التحدث بالحقيقة، مهما تكن طريقة لفظها.

“Everybody lies” is a phrase that keeps being repeated over and over again in every episode of the famous American TV series House. Most people believe in the truth of this phrase, however I am not one of them; or at least I am not, except when I am reading any of Dan Brown’s novels. So far I have read all his novels except for “The Lost Symbol;” hence, I could say that I am considerably aware of his style of writing and the general framework of his novels. But still I have to admit that every time I was taken aback when the moment of truth came in any of his novels. Personally, the concept of truth in any of Brown’s novel exceed the general meaning of “not lying,” it goes on to represent the opposite of illusion, namely it is more attached to the concept of reality; it is concerned with such question as: is what you are seeing, experiencing, being told is indeed the truth or are you being played by like a toy in a marionette show? So although all Brown’s novels kind of agree on the same framework and style of storytelling, each one of them is an enjoyment in itself and a masterpiece in one, or several, particular field of knowledge. Talking about “Deception Point,” I have to admit that although it is represented as a novel, a thrilling, amazing, rich and interesting one to be fair, it is also a brief textbook about the ocean world, the meteorites, the space battle, NASA, new weapons, the political battle during presidential elections in the USA, the human psychology, etc… quite a lot of stuff if you asked me, and that is what I like the most about Brown. He is not only a novelist but a transmitter of knowledge, enjoyment and an enhancer for open-mindedness and for thinking outside the box. The two main lessons that I learnt from this novel are simple but deep. First, never blindly trust what you are told regardless how much you trust the person you tells you, but always question and seek the truth of things by yourself. Second, don’t rush about judging people, especially those with high responsibility in the community, because around everyone of them there are a bunch of hidden players who work on arranging the game as they like, but if the people responsible are indeed up to their responsibility, they will eventually overcome the hidden players and be worth of the respect and the duty that people attach to them.

رواية مفعمة بالاثارة زاد من جمالها ذلك الخيال المرتبط بالتكنولوجيا وتلك المعلومات التقنية التي وظفها دان براون ضمن نسق منظم وجميل . لا يخلو الكتاب من نقد مبطن وايضا صريح لامريكا وذلك الاسراف الذي يضيع هباء من اجل الهوس الفضائي والغلو فيه يعيب الرواية تلك الاطالة التي يكثر فيها الكاتب من التفاصيل التي بعضها لا تفيد القارئ وسوف ينساها باي حال بعد الانتهاء من قراءتها ولكن بشكل عام الرواية جذابة وتستحق القراءة وهي مشوقة لآخر مدى.

The facts about the NASA and politics got me deep into this book.

أشار المؤلف في بداية الرواية إلى أن كل التقنيات و الأسلحة الموصفة موجودة فعلا ... و نشرت الرواية عام 2001 لذا و بعد انتهائي لا يسعني سوى أتساءل في عام 2012 ما حجم ما وصلت إليه ناسا و لا نعلم عنه شيء ؟ و لأي درجة من التطور وصلت التقنيات التي تستخدمها القوات الأمريكية ...
و على لسان مدير ناسا في الأحداث بالطبع أنه يوجد تأخر مقداره اثنتي عشر سنة بين ما يمكن أن تبنيه الحكومة و بين ما يعلم عنه الشعب ...
رواية مميزة جدا

Absolutely wonderful. I'm saying that right at the beginning.

I love this Dan Brown book so much to the point of fangirling. I think this is Mr. Brown at his best and perhaps his more underrated books out of everything he's published so far. I also have no idea why it's not being made into series. Perhaps that's a good thing because too much of a good thing can make the magic disappear, but I think I could live with one or two more Michael Tolland book.

I give props for the shocking twist at the end. I did not see it coming. For sheer entertainment value, this book has it all. To be quiet honest, I didn't mind so much the issues the book discusse or did I particularly care about the degree of truthfulness that the "conspiracy theories" this book provided. As with all Dan Brown stories, suspension of disbelief is still required to read it but, the heck with that! It was so much fun to read, what with the gripping action that ran throughout the whole story.

Actually this book had me at "NASA". (Apparently, I'm that much of a geek.) But then Rachel Sexton and Michael Tolland are such compelling characters as well. I was rooting for the both of them since page 1 and I wanted them not only to come out of this ordeal alive, but to have a happy ending. I was even in support of the romance that sparked between them, although I usually ignore the more lovey dovey parts in this genre. In this book, however, I thought their romance made sense.

Simply put, best Dan Brown book so far. A genuine page-turner.

Also: why is it not being made into a movie?

10 years ago, I read Deception Point for the first time and fell in love with it from the very first line.

This plot-driven story had the impeccable power of interconnecting several storylines, with a masterful and genius pace, into the most chocking twist that anyone wouldn't see coming.

Throughout the times I was reading this novel, my heart kept beating hard and hard in my chest, and I was always on the run to catch-up with the actions that were happening.

In terms of characters, I found all of them to be very interesting in following their perspectives.

I have been re-reading all of Dan Brown's novels this year, and that is to celebrate my 10 years of reading Dan Brown for the first time, starting with the book, which would always be a part of me, and that is The Da Vinci Code. The Da Vinci Code was 'the' book that put me into the path of reading, and for this I would always cherish it--and thus, I am also celebrating the first time I got into reading!

The Deception Point gives you a sneak preview of the inner political workings at play in Washington, its clandestine organizations, their actions and ensuing political ramifications. Privatization of space travel - which is now a reality - plays an integral part of the plot and in doing so, gives us an idea of political perspectives towards this development.

I wonder how he could write such a minute level descriptions about all places. Really makes me go out there and see. And this time to the North Pole or Arctic ocean along with Washington D.C. Fast paced with lots of twists and turns and mind-boggling moments of uncertainty makes Dan Brown's books a must read.

يبهرني دان براون كل مرة بغزارة معلوماته

وكل مرة يختار براون موضوعا لرواية من رواياته
تجده قد تجهز جيدا ودرس وبحث
واستطاع عرض هذه المعلومات القيمة بطريقة

فدائما المجال العلمي يثير فضولي ومتعتي ورغبتي الدائمة في المعرفة

ومجال الفضاء يستهويني من أمد بعيد
أحب ناسا واكتشافاتها وطاقمها
ودوما أتذكر العظيم كارل سيجن
الذي كان أول من علمني أن العلم أكثر متعة بكثير
من أي فانتازيا خيالية في كتاب حكايات

لذا استمتعت بكل ما كان يتعلق بالنيازك والحفريات ومركبات الفضاء
وهذا الخيال العلمي المتشبث بالواقع
وهذه القدرة العجيبة لدى براون على التلاعب بنا كقراء مرة بعد مرة

أحببت راتشيل ولم أشعر بالخيبة كما توقعت
لأن روبرت شخصيتي الخيالية الجميلة الطيبة
لن يصحبني معه هذه المرة في محاولته لحل الألغاز

صحيح أن هناك شيء كبير مفقود بغيابه
إلا ان براون نجح في دمج عنصرا الخيال والتشويق
وقدم لنا مرة اخرى رواية محفزة للخيال مليئة بالمعلومات المبهرة

ملحوظة
ألا تشعر أن دان براون احيانا يصنع رواياته وكأنه سيناريو لفيلم سينمائي؟
لأنني في هذه الرواية بالذات لم انفك أشعر بذلك
وبقوة
