Stephen Edwin King was born the second son of Donald and Nellie Ruth Pillsbury King. After his father left them when Stephen was two, he and his older brother, David, were raised by his mother. Parts of his childhood were spent in Fort Wayne, Indiana, where his father's family was at the time, and in Stratford, Connecticut. When Stephen was eleven, his mother brought her children back to Durham, Maine, for good. Her parents, Guy and Nellie Pillsbury, had become incapacitated with old age, and Ruth King was persuaded by her sisters to take over the physical care of them. Other family members provided a small house in Durham and financial support. After Stephen's grandparents passed away, Mrs. King found work in the kitchens of Pineland, a nearby residential facility for the mentally challenged.

Stephen attended the grammar school in Durham and Lisbon Falls High School, graduating in 1966. From his sophomore year at the University of Maine at Orono, he wrote a weekly column for the school newspaper, THE MAINE CAMPUS. He was also active in student politics, serving as a member of the Student Senate. He came to support the anti-war movement on the Orono campus, arriving at his stance from a conservative view that the war in Vietnam was unconstitutional. He graduated in 1970, with a B.A. in English and qualified to teach on the high school level. A draft board examination immediately post-graduation found him 4-F on grounds of high blood pressure, limited vision, flat feet, and punctured eardrums.

He met Tabitha Spruce in the stacks of the Fogler Library at the University, where they both worked as students; they married in January of 1971. As Stephen was unable to find placement as a teacher immediately, the Kings lived on his earnings as a laborer at an industrial laundry, and her student loan and savings, with an occasional boost from a short story sale to men's magazines.

Stephen made his first professional short story sale ("The Glass Floor") to Startling Mystery Stories in 1967. Throughout the early years of his marriage, he continued to sell stories to men's magazines. Many were gathered into the Night Shift collection or appeared in other anthologies.

In the fall of 1971, Stephen began teaching English at Hampden Academy, the public high school in Hampden, Maine. Writing in the evenings and on the weekends, he continued to produce short stories and to work on novels.

It's Stephen King. Where does one even start? He is a literary giant, a master of horror and suspense. His works have captivated readers around the world for decades. From the terrifying "It" to the psychological thriller "Misery," King has a unique ability to tap into our deepest fears and create stories that stay with us long after we've turned the last page.

I just have to bow down to his genius. His writing is so vivid and engaging that it's easy to get lost in his fictional worlds. He has a way of making the impossible seem possible and the ordinary seem extraordinary. His characters are complex and believable, and we can't help but root for them or fear for them.

I hope he never stops writing. His contributions to the world of literature are immeasurable. He has inspired countless other writers and has introduced a whole new generation of readers to the joys of reading. Long live Stephen King!

Stephen King is a renowned author, but some of his earlier works had their flaws.

Two of the weakest king books of his earlier period were those that didn't quite hit the mark. However, there was one that stood out for me - "The Dead Zone". I found myself enjoying it more than I expected.

The story had a unique premise and kept me engaged throughout. On the other hand, "Cujo" was a little bit of a head-scratcher. It had some strange elements that left me with a sense of "wtf".

Overall, while King's earlier works had their ups and downs, "The Dead Zone" was a pleasant surprise, and "Cujo" was an interesting, albeit somewhat confusing, read.

Both books, The Dead Zone and Cujo, are truly strange. They are the kind of freaky stories that could only come from the brilliant and twisted mind of Stephen King.

Out of the two, The Dead Zone holds a special place in my heart. However, this might be due to my personal prejudice. I have an intense loathing for dogs, and the idea of a super scary rabid dog like Cujo, who tries to kill everyone around him, is just terrifying.

On the other hand, I have a genuine interest in the brain and the mind, and The Dead Zone explores this fascinating topic. I haven't watched the TV show based on the book, and I'm not sure if I would want to.

All I know is that I have a certain fondness for The Dead Zone, even though the main character's severe headaches make me cringe. And as for Cujo, it remains one of the scariest books I've ever read by King. In fact, it ranks quite high on my list of his most terrifying works!

Time Travel. Rabid Dog. Perfect combination :)

Time travel has always been a fascinating concept in science fiction. The idea of being able to journey through time, visit different eras, and witness historical events is truly captivating.

Now, imagine combining this with a rabid dog. The result would be a thrilling and dangerous adventure. A rabid dog is a terrifying creature, known for its aggression and unpredictability.

Together, time travel and a rabid dog could create a story full of excitement and suspense. The protagonist would have to not only navigate the challenges of time travel but also deal with the threat of the rabid dog.

It could be a race against time to find a way to return to the present and escape the clutches of the rabid dog. Or perhaps, the protagonist would have to use the power of time travel to find a cure for the dog's rabies and save it from a certain death.

Either way, the combination of time travel and a rabid dog is sure to make for an unforgettable story.

I'm really not certain how this particular item found its way into my collection.

To be honest, I've only read one of the works, which is "The Dead Zone."

Surprisingly, it was a really good read.

As I'm quite sure, by now, most people are already familiar with this fact.

Perhaps it was the captivating storyline or the well-developed characters that made it so engaging.

Either way, it left a lasting impression on me.

Even though I haven't explored the other items in my collection yet, I have high hopes that they will be just as interesting and enjoyable as "The Dead Zone."

Maybe one day, I'll discover the reason why this specific piece ended up in my collection and uncover the hidden gems within the rest of it.

One of my all-time favorite books by Stephen King is truly a masterpiece.

I had the opportunity to watch the TV series adaptation, but unfortunately, it failed to capture the essence and sheer amazingness of the book.

King has this remarkable ability to create main characters that I instantly fall in love with. I find myself completely invested in their stories, rooting for them to succeed against all odds.

I've been on a journey of reading his books in chronological order, and while there are some that didn't quite resonate with me as much, this particular one will always remain in my heart as one of his absolute best.

It's a story that lingers in my mind long after I've turned the last page, and I can't wait to explore more of King's literary genius.
