Connie Schultz's wise kindness truly oozes out of this memoir.

She takes you on a journey through her time on her husband's campaign, sharing the tough lessons she learned about politics along the way.

Schultz is a fiery and independent woman, yet she is completely in love. Her story is one of passion, determination, and love.

I adored this book because it gave me a unique perspective on the world of politics and the people who are involved in it.

Schultz's writing is engaging and honest, and she doesn't shy away from sharing the difficult moments she faced.

This memoir is a must-read for anyone who is interested in politics, love, or simply a good story.

As a transplanted Ohioan and a former resident of Cleveland, my curiosity was piqued when I came across this memoir of the 2006 election.

I had left Cleveland before she started writing for the Plain Dealer, which meant I was not familiar with her work. However, upon reading this memoir, I was pleasantly surprised.

It is a well-written and warmly charming story of the campaign. The author has managed to capture the essence of the events and the people involved in a way that makes it both engaging and informative.

I have admired Senator Brown ever since he was elected. His dedication to the people of Ohio and his commitment to making a positive difference are truly inspiring. I fully expect great things from him in the future.

This memoir has only strengthened my admiration for him and has given me a deeper understanding of the man and the campaign that led to his election.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone interested in politics, Ohio history, or just a good story.

Boy, I truly wouldn't wish politics and the political life on anyone.

It's really a complex and often challenging world. A good insider's view can really make you wonder why we even bother getting involved in it all and what exactly we expect from our politicians.

It's so hard to imagine why anyone would willingly put themselves through this arduous process.

One would have to have an awfully strong constitution to endure the pressures, the constant scrutiny, and the never-ending battles.

The political arena is filled with intrigues, power struggles, and the need to make difficult decisions that can have far-reaching consequences.

It takes a special kind of person with great determination, resilience, and a sense of purpose to navigate through it all.

But still, despite all the difficulties, there are those who are drawn to politics, perhaps hoping to make a positive change or leave a lasting impact.

It's a fascinating yet somewhat mysterious aspect of our society.

A great look into the effort it takes to run a political campaign is truly eye-opening. The amount of work, dedication, and time that goes into it is immense. Candidates have to travel extensively, meet with countless people, give speeches, and manage a team. It's a non-stop process that requires a great deal of energy and focus.

However, what often goes unnoticed is the toll it takes on the spouses and family. They have to deal with the absence of their loved one, the stress and pressure that comes with the campaign, and the public scrutiny. It can be a difficult and challenging time for them, both emotionally and physically.

Running a political campaign is not just about the candidate; it's about the entire family. It's important to recognize and appreciate the sacrifices that they make and to support them throughout the process.

This is a truly phenomenal book.

I had been desiring to read it for quite some time, and I'm extremely glad that I finally managed to get around to reading it this weekend.

There is a very valid reason why Connie Schultz has been awarded the Pulitzer Prize.

Her description of her husband Sherrod Brown's initial campaign for the US Senate is not only hilarious but also deeply moving.

It has the power to inspire hope, even in these rather dark political times.

The way she presents the events and the emotions involved makes the reader feel as if they are right there, experiencing it all along with the characters.

It's a captivating read that keeps you engaged from start to finish.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is interested in politics, human nature, or just a good story.

It's a must-read that will leave a lasting impression.

I have a great affection for Connie and Sherrod. However, my interest waned in a certain aspect. But it was truly fascinating to read about the experience of having the press rummage through one's garbage and being introduced almost as an afterthought, like Sherrod's wife Connie. For Connie, a Pulitzer prize-winning journalist with a significant following and who asks important questions, this must have been a trying time.

I highly commend her for taking a sabbatical to campaign for Sherrod. She likely contributed a great deal to his success, perhaps even securing him 40% of the votes. And I have a deep admiration for Sherrod as well. Connie remarks that she was "straddling two worlds, not taking up residence in either of them, and feeling lost much of the time." She openly admits to being extremely busy, bordering on crazy. She says, "Most days, I wore my special button whenever I stumped for Sherrod and usually forgot to take it off when I ran errands, which elicited reactions ranging from disgust to glee in the faces of fellow customers."

The account of the campaign and their marriage is refreshingly honest. She is also forthright about her roots, her father's ideology, and her mother's struggles. On a personal note, I was particularly intrigued by the passages about our neighbor, John Ryan, whose daughter was in my Girl Scout troop and whose wife Jeannie ran the PTA throughout the years our youngest daughter was in the North Olmsted School System. Connie writes, "Ultimately, this is a story about a marriage—my marriage. In so many ways, I’m your everywife—or at least every wife who loves her husband." This book is indeed worth reading. However, I found myself desiring to have a conversation with Connie to convey to her that she rightfully deserves her awards for journalism and that she didn't have to write a book simply about being a wife. I don't believe that to be the whole truth about her.

Connie Schultz is truly a national treasure.

She has an amazing ability to give as good as she gets, which makes her one of the best among us.

Through her captivating stories, she provides us with a front row seat, allowing us to vividly experience what it's like to run for office in a mid-western state that may not always be receptive to progressive policies.

Her work offers us a unique perspective and valuable insights into the challenges and triumphs of the political process.

Thank you, Connie, for instilling in us faith in the process and faith in the people who are elected to represent us all.

Your contributions are not only significant but also inspiring, and we are truly grateful for all that you do.

I truly relished this behind-the-scenes peek into a Senate campaign. Connie Schultz openly acknowledges her hesitation regarding her husband's decision to run for Senator. She is brutally honest about her concerns not only for their marriage but also for her own career as a journalist.

What makes her account even more engaging is her sense of humor. She manages to convey her thoughts and feelings in a way that is both entertaining and genuine. It's as if she is sitting right beside you, sharing her experiences and emotions.

This book is a great read for anyone interested in politics, marriage, or the life of a journalist. It offers a unique perspective that is both enlightening and enjoyable. I would highly recommend it to others.

The book is essentially a narrative history of the campaign, accompanied by some commentary on how the campaign influenced their personal lives.

It presents a detailed account of the events that took place during the campaign, along with the perspectives and experiences of those involved.

However, for someone like me who was not directly involved in the campaign and was not familiar with most of the names, places, and events, the book failed to capture my interest.

Without a prior understanding or connection to the subject matter, it was difficult for me to engage with the content on a deeper level.

I found myself skimming through the pages, hoping to find something that would pique my curiosity, but unfortunately, it never happened.

While the book may be of great value to those who have a personal or professional interest in the campaign, it simply did not resonate with me.
