I've always been touched by the words, "I believe that you should always leave loved ones with loving words. It may be the last time you see them." But it wasn't until an incident 8 years ago that I truly understood their significance.
That day, I was on the phone with my Dad. It was a typical conversation until the end. Usually, I'd say "Love you, Dad," but that time, for some reason, I hesitated and just said, "Okay take care, Pi." Little did I know, it would be our last phone call. Two hours later, my mom called to say Dad had a bad headache and was on the way to the hospital. It was a stroke, and he never woke up. To this day, I regret not saying those three words.
The second incident happened in January 2009. I had been with my significant other since elementary school. We were childhood sweethearts, and our relationship had evolved over the years. We were a cool couple, rarely arguing out of jealousy. But one night, everything changed.
He was late picking up our friend Widya, and I, being extremely punctual, kept calling him. When he finally arrived at Widya's, he called me back, and we had a heated exchange. He ended the call with "Love you," but I was too angry to say it back. Not an hour later, I got a call from Widya saying there had been an accident. By the time I got to the hospital, he was unconscious and never woke up. His "love you" was the last thing I heard from him, and my response was far from loving.
It's been almost 4 years since then, and I've learned a lot. I've learned that being too punctual can be a burden. I've accepted the loss of my loved ones, but I still struggle with the regret of my last words to them. I envy Holly from the book because she had time to say goodbye properly and received letters from her husband even after he was gone. I wish I had something like that.
Despite all this, I know that life goes on. I'm a woman with a million happy memories, and I'm ready to make new ones. I'll open my heart and follow where it leads, just like Holly. And I'll always remember the importance of leaving loved ones with loving words.
"I believe that you should always leave loved ones with loving words. It may be the last time you see them."\\n
The story is simple yet unique. It's about how a husband (Gerry), feeling that his life won't last long due to the cancer he's suffering from, prepares his wife (Holly), who is very dependent on him and deeply loved by him, to live after his departure. He leaves letters for Holly to open every month for a year after his death. The letters contain various requests based on what usually happened in their lives.
The story is touching although there are some funny parts that are a bit disturbing, like the 'amazing' incident at Holly's birthday celebration. But overall, this story can give the reader a lot of things: about how a wife must remain independent even though she has a reliable husband... because we never know when we will part from him, about friendship, about the meaning of a family, about love, about a meeting and also about a separation.
Holly, who is fragile and shy... over time, finds many lessons and meanings from the departure of her husband... friend... lover and soulmate: Gerry, and also from the lives of the people around her.
Holly, who feels that everything in her life is in chaos, yet has beautiful and happy memories. Who knows what it's like to have true love, but is ready to step into the future.
A touching, romantic, meaningful yet still 'down to earth' novel... beautiful :)
Warning: This is my first review so it may be awful :D
Before I started the book, I thought it was a typical romance book about two people who fell in love, bla bla bla. However, when I began reading it, I was in shock. The first chapter was about the death of the main male character. I initially thought the story would be reversed, but I was wrong. It was completely different, and I LOVE IT!
It's a new story about a woman whose husband recently died. She is now depressed and miserable, not knowing what to do with her life anymore without him by her side. After a while, she discovers that he left her envelopes containing ten letters, one for each month, telling her what to do and encouraging her to move on with her life. It's really a good book. I like that every chapter has its own emotions. I cried, laughed, felt sorry for her, and sometimes even wished I could punish her. All these feelings in the same book are rare. I liked the characters; they all seemed real to me. I also loved her family, all of them, even Richard. Although I don't usually like people with this kind of personality in real life, I like it in the book because I know when a chapter includes Richard, it's going to be a funny one :D
I didn't like the last chapter. I hate when they repeat events that happened before. It makes you feel like you're in a movie because you know things like this don't happen in reality.
P.S. This review is for my friend. I don't usually write reviews, but she was disappointed in me, so I did it for her.

Cumpără P.S. Te iubesc
Când viața îți oferă lămâi...
... faci limonadă. Parcă așa era vorba aceea. :)
P.S. Te iubesc is a book that had been on my reading list for a very long time. Recently, thanks to those from Editura Allfa, I had the opportunity to delight in this book that helped the author Cecelia Ahern make her debut.
Most likely you have heard/seen the movie P.S. I love you, starring Hilary Swank and Gerard Butler, an emotional, amusing, and relaxing movie that I really liked. It was made after the book of the same name and was a great success, which made me curious to read the book as well.
I read P.S. Te iubesc in the wonderful new edition that Editura Allfa created. Our protagonist, Holly, is a young woman who goes through an unimaginable suffering along with her friends. She loses her other half, the precious person in her life, her beloved Gerry, a wonderful husband who is taken away by a tumor.
Holly is devastated and loses herself, forgetting how to truly live until the moment she starts to receive some mysterious letters from... Gerry! It seems that her guardian angel didn't leave her alone and prepared a set of letters for her to help her get back on her feet.
The magical letters
Although Holly becomes extremely enthusiastic about the letters she receives through her friends, she will have to face a series of challenges that Gerry prepared for her. Not all of them are pleasant things as they awaken memories that sadden her or put her in difficulty, forcing her to face her fears.
The protagonist suffers a great deal and cannot easily overcome the stage she is in. She becomes jealous of her friends who continue their life rhythm as if nothing had happened, but it's all just in her mind. The pain of losing Gerry is present in everyone's heart, but Holly cannot accept what happened.
The title of the book is full of significance, emphasizing the feeling of love between Holly and Gerry, something that could be felt from each letter written by Gerry, the ending always being the same: "P.S. Te iubesc".
A book full of emotion and suffering that makes you think about the hardships of life, P.S. Te iubesc is that reading that steals your tears from time to time and makes you live along with the characters. The process of rediscovery of the protagonist teaches us that we must rebuild our lives after any tragedy, the obstacles existing only in our minds. With willpower and the support of those around us, we can rediscover how beautiful life is!

This statement reflects a common experience among readers. Sometimes, we come across a story that has its merits, yet it fails to resonate with us on a personal level. The story might have been crafted with great care and attention, and the sentiment it conveys might be profound. However, for some reason, it just doesn't click with us.
The popularity of a particular read can often be a double-edged sword. On one hand, it indicates that there is something about the story that has captured the hearts and minds of many. On the other hand, it also means that not everyone will be able to connect with it in the same way. In this case, the reviewer feels that the story is too emotional for their taste. While they can recognize that others might enjoy this aspect, it simply doesn't appeal to them.
It's important to remember that everyone has their own unique reading preferences. What one person loves, another might find unappealing. And that's okay. The beauty of literature is that it offers something for everyone. Whether you prefer a heart-wrenching emotional rollercoaster or a light and breezy read, there is sure to be a story out there that will speak to you.
