DNF. May 1, 2011

I have tried so hard to finish it, but I just couldn't. The story is extremely boring. It's really hard to believe that I'm about to say this, but the movie is actually much better than the book.

The book seems to lack the excitement and engaging elements that the movie was able to bring to life. The plot in the book just drags on and on, making it a real struggle to keep reading.

In contrast, the movie managed to capture the essence of the story and present it in a more captivating way. The visuals, the acting, and the overall production value of the movie made it a much more enjoyable experience.

Maybe it's just my personal preference, but I found that the movie was able to bring the story to life in a way that the book simply couldn't. It's a shame that the book wasn't able to live up to my expectations.

The movie was even more beautiful.

It had a certain charm that was truly captivating. The visuals were stunning, with every scene carefully crafted to create a vivid and immersive experience. The colors were rich and vibrant, adding to the overall allure of the film.

The story was engaging and filled with emotions that tugged at the heartstrings. The characters were well-developed, and their performances were outstanding. Each actor brought their character to life, making the audience feel connected to them.

The movie also had a great soundtrack that enhanced the mood and atmosphere of every scene. The music added an extra layer of depth and emotion to the film, making it even more memorable.

Overall, it was a truly remarkable movie that left a lasting impression. It was a pleasure to watch and will be remembered for a long time.

After being completely obsessed with the movie for several months, I finally made up my mind to take the plunge and read the book. And let me tell you, the book was equally satisfying, yet completely different from the Gerard Butler perv-fest that I so dearly love.

There were numerous changes made when translating this book to film. I won't go into all of them here right now as I wouldn't want to ruin it for you, but suffice it to say that they were significant. Everything from the love interests to the careers was different. And for this reason, I truly believe that I did it the right way around by watching the movie first and then reading the book.

I'm giving it 4 stars because Cecilia Ahern's writing is just so effortless to read. It requires no great effort to get into a rhythm, and it's the perfect little book to pick up when you're in between those hefty epics. She tackles the theme of grief in a way that doesn't make you feel like life is pointless. There is always hope. And I think that's precisely what Gerry gives Holly in her first year without him - hope for a new life.

This little story gave me a similar feel-good feeling as The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks. It didn't matter that it was tragic; it still managed to truly touch me. In fact, it was beautiful.

Read this novel if you're looking for something to fill the gap between other books and don't want to have to work too hard to enjoy the characters. Don't read this novel if you think you could feel disconcerted or upset by the intense, overwhelming grief that Holly is struggling to come to terms with.
