Excerpt: “But Holly, nobody’s life is filled with perfect little moments. And if it were, they wouldn’t be perfect little moments. They would just be normal. How would you ever know happiness if you never experienced downs?”
This profound statement really made me think. It's so true that in life, we often strive for those perfect moments. But if our lives were constantly filled with only such moments, they would lose their specialness. They would become ordinary. It's the contrast between the good and the bad, the ups and the downs, that makes the happy moments truly stand out and be cherished.
I devoured both the book and the movie related to this concept. The story was so engaging and thought-provoking. It made me reflect on my own life and how I view the various experiences I've had. Whether it's a small victory or a big setback, each moment has contributed to shaping who I am. I highly recommend this book and movie to anyone who wants to gain a deeper understanding of life and the importance of embracing both the good and the bad.

Read it.

I had a nap.

Now I will take a day to write about what I didn't feel and what I felt.

This gives me the opportunity to reflect deeply on my emotions and experiences.

Sometimes, we are so busy in our daily lives that we don't stop to notice our inner feelings.

Taking this day to write will help me to understand myself better.

I can explore the emotions that were hidden or suppressed.

Maybe I'll discover something new about myself.

It could be a moment of clarity or a realization that changes my perspective.

Writing is a powerful tool for self-expression and self-discovery.

I'm looking forward to spending this day writing and uncovering the layers of my emotions.

RATING: 5 STARS

Gerry and Holly have been soul mates since childhood, and their love blossoms into adulthood. However, fate takes a cruel turn when Gerry is diagnosed with a brain tumor, leaving him with only a short time to live. Before his passing, Gerry devises a touching plan. He leaves Holly a series of letters that are designed to guide her through the difficult grieving process, bring about positive changes in her life, and hopefully, reignite her will to love again.

One of the key elements that make any romantic comedy truly work, especially those that have the power to make you shed tears, is the presence of well-developed secondary characters. This novel is a wonderful choice when you're in the mood for a little romance and a heart-wrenching story. It also has a touch of humor, which helps to balance out the emotions and makes the reading experience even more enjoyable.

The book is far superior to the movie, although I do love the movie as well. I would recommend viewing them as separate entities, as they offer distinct experiences. The book is set in Ireland, and Holly has a large and loving Irish family, which I really appreciate. In the movie, I enjoy the friendships and seeing Gerard Butler bring Gerry to life on the screen.

3.5 ⭐️

So this book was completely out of my comfort zone. It was just okay. It was VERY different from the movie. Although the premises are the same, the details in between are different. It’s been ages since I’ve watched the movie, so you can be sure that I’ll be watching it again very soon to compare it with the book and decide which one is better. Is it a book I’ll read again? Nope.

** Cecelia Ahern's debut novel, PS, I Love You, follows the engaging, witty, and sometimes a bit sappy reawakening of Holly, a young Irish widow. She has to put her life back together after losing her husband Gerry to a brain tumor. Ahern, the twentysomething daughter of Ireland's prime minister, has come up with a clever and original twist to the Moving On After Death concept that has been made famous by novelists and screenwriters alike. Gerry has left Holly a series of letters. These letters are designed to help her face the year ahead and carry on with her life. As the novel takes readers through the seasons (and through Gerry's monthly directives), we get to watch as Holly finds a new job, takes a holiday to Spain with her girlfriends, and sorts through her beloved husband's belongings. Accompanying Holly throughout the healing process is a cast of friends and family members. Their presence adds as much to the novel's success as Holly's own tale of survival.

This novel offers a unique perspective on grief and recovery, and while it may not be a book that I would read again, it did manage to hold my attention and make me think about the different ways in which people cope with loss.

I absolutely ADORED this book. It had me in a whirlwind of emotions, laughing one minute and crying the next.

Holly is very newly widowed when she is handed an envelope. Inside, there is a letter from her dead husband Gerry, along with 10 small envelopes. She is instructed to open one envelope each month, in the order that they are labelled. As she opens each one, she will find either a surprise or a task set by Gerry for her to carry out. It is his way of helping her to start moving forward and live again. But, is it really helping her or is she going to start living from month to month instead, living just for the day when she can open the next envelope?

I loved reading about Holly and her family and friends. They are all trying, in their own ways, to support her. I liked the way that her family life is depicted, with all the natural alliances that form within a family. It felt very natural and real, especially the sibling bickering! It is a very warm book. There are some very funny moments in it, as well as some real tearjerking times. It is definitely not a book that you want to read in public or without a big box of tissues by your side. It is one of those books that is going to end up on my “keeper” shelf, not to be lent out to family or friends. If they want to read it, then they can buy their own.

This book truly touched my heart and I would highly recommend it to anyone who loves a good emotional read.

This was MUCH different than the movie, but I really liked it.

In fact, I think I liked it even more than the movie.

The story provides an honest and raw look at the long and arduous road of healing.

After losing a part of your heart, it's not easy to find yourself again.

But this account shows the real struggles, the tears, the setbacks, and the small victories along the way.

It delves deep into the emotions and the inner turmoil that one experiences during such a journey.

Unlike the movie, which may sometimes gloss over the details or present a more sanitized version, this gives a more accurate and touching portrayal of what it truly means to heal and rediscover oneself.

It makes you empathize with the characters and their pain, and it gives you hope that even in the darkest of times, there is a way forward.

I'm glad I read this and was able to experience this beautiful and powerful story in a more profound way.

I have to admit that until now, I have been a self-confessed hater of chick lit.

The only chick lit I have ever read and enjoyed is the Shopaholic books, and even I can admit that, actually, they are pretty crap.

I'd been struggling a bit with Fortress Besieged, and we needed to go on a break.

P.S. I Love You had been sitting on my desk, on top of my 'I'm never going to read these books so they need to go to a car boot sale' pile, staring at me, for ages.

So I gave in to its cute polka dot cover and decided to give it a go. I wanted to watch the film, and my usual rule is to read the book first, so why break the tradition?

As much as it pains me to say this............. I actually enjoyed it.............. ouch that hurt! It was cute and fun and very nearly (I said nearly!) made me shed a tear.

It made me want to go out on a big night out with my friends, go on holiday with them, and have loads of girly fun! Oh dear, what's happening to me!

Jokes aside, if you want a book that is easy to read, fun, and heart-warming all at the same time, then this is for you. I have the film lined up on my blockbuster list as we speak!

You never know, maybe there will be a few more chick lit reviews coming from me in the future. Maybe not anytime soon though!

I had purchased "P.S. I Love You" along with a collection of other chick lit novels on Ebay even before the movie had been released. So, I decided to read the book first for once and then see what I thought of the movie afterwards. Now that I have done this, I must say that I truly enjoyed the book a great deal more.

The two, the book and the movie, were extremely different. Many elements were omitted from the movie. However, considering the book had 512 pages, there was a significant amount of story that had to be cut. I just didn't anticipate them changing so much of it. For instance, Holly's sister as a character in the book was much more developed, and I had really liked her.

Although it is a very touching and emotional story, almost to the point where it scares me a little bit (after all, what young married woman wants to envision her husband dying!), I still couldn't put the book down to find out what the next letter he wrote to her said. It was just so romantic and beautiful. But in my opinion, the grieving process that Holly goes through isn't entirely too realistic. I mean packing up her husband's things only months after he's passed - there's no way I could do that! At least the book portrays the grief as more of a struggle and process than I felt the movie did, which was a positive aspect.

Overall, I would definitely recommend this book to anyone. Perhaps it would be better to read it after seeing the movie, so you have a starting point and maybe won't be as disappointed in the movie as I was. And considering it was Cecilia Ahern's first novel, I thought the concept was excellent. I look forward to exploring some of her other novels, as I'm certain she will only grow as an author.
