A Minor Reading Experience

Recently, I had a minor reading experience that left me with some interesting thoughts. The text seemed to be a collection of snippets or dialogues.

One part had Suzanne telling Picasso that he was a womanizing, bastard fraud, to which Picasso replied that if she was trying to praise him, that was a poor choice of words. I found this exchange quite thought-provoking.

I also noted that someone said they admired Picasso's confidence and nothing else. There were some typos like "britt le th e" which made me wonder about the accuracy of the text.

Later on, Germaine analyzed Picasso, which was described as interesting. And Gaston was said to have put two geniuses together and the result was "wow!". Freddy's comment, "Boy, you really know how to turn a phrase," added a bit of humor.

Overall, this minor reading experience made me curious about what a live play based on these interactions might be like. Would it offer a deeper understanding and more engaging exploration of the characters and their relationships? I'm left with a sense of anticipation and a desire to see if a live performance could bring these snippets to life in a more profound way.

Okay, so Steve Martin is not primarily known as a playwright. However, he had a great time writing the title play. I haven't read the other plays in the volume, but if this one is well staged and performed, you're sure to have a great time watching it. I would also highly recommend reading it, especially if you're not very familiar with the era it's set in. In fact, it might even be a good idea to read something about the era itself to gain a better understanding. I truly wish this play would receive more productions because it is not only very funny but also terribly clever.

Admittedly, I haven't read the other plays.

However, my love for Picasso is so profound that I simply have to give the whole damn thing 5 stars.

Picasso's works have always had a special charm for me. His unique style and innovative approach to art have left an indelible mark on my heart.

Although I may not have a comprehensive understanding of all the plays, based on my admiration for Picasso, I am confident that this particular work must possess certain qualities that make it worthy of such a high rating.

Perhaps it is the way Picasso uses language to create vivid images and emotions, or maybe it is the depth of his exploration of human nature and the human condition.

Whatever the reason, I am convinced that this play is a masterpiece, and I am eager to explore it further and discover all the hidden treasures it has to offer.

Enjoy these plays! Steve Martin's clever twists and character revelations are truly delightful. These plays are quick reads, perfect for that first sitting when you want to be entertained. I have also explored various plays on the Internet and discovered the engaging performances of different theater groups. It is truly amazing how each group brings a unique interpretation to Martin's works. Once again, this has brought me back to an admiration for Steve Martin, a truly funny man who always takes risks in creating something new. He constantly pushes the boundaries of comedy and drama, resulting in plays that are both thought-provoking and hilarious. So, are you ready for some fun? Then don't hesitate to pick up these plays and embark on a journey of laughter and entertainment!

Read for ENG 2520. It's the text he decided to end the class with.

The point of literature is to help the reader to not be lonely tonight. I love that.

Literature has a unique power to touch our hearts and souls. It can transport us to different worlds, introduce us to diverse characters, and make us feel a range of emotions.

When we read, we are not alone. We are in the company of the author and the characters they have created. We can find solace, inspiration, and connection through the written word.

Read for ENG 412R. It's another opportunity to explore the wonderful world of literature and discover new meanings and perspectives.

Whether it's a classic novel, a modern poem, or a short story, literature has the ability to enrich our lives and make us feel less alone in this vast and sometimes lonely world.

So, pick up a book, turn the pages, and let the magic of literature take you on a journey.

I read this ten years ago, but these plays were lost on me at that time.

Looking back now, I realize that these are some of the most deceptively clever pieces I've ever read.

Their complexity is truly mind-boggling, yet at the same time, the lines are often so beautiful that I found myself underlining them frequently.

What's more, I laughed out loud almost as often as I was highlighting those remarkable lines.

This discovery has been a genuine surprise, and it has made me realize that these plays are well worth revisiting.

I'm excited to see what new insights and pleasures I'll uncover upon a second reading.

It's amazing how our perspectives can change over time, and how something that was once overlooked can suddenly become a source of great enjoyment and inspiration.

I can't wait to dive back into these plays and explore their depths once again.

I've had the privilege of reading two of Martin's plays. The first one was performed in WASP. Martin has this rather unfortunate talent. He starts off by hooking me with an interesting premise that really grabs my attention. It makes me eager to see where the story will go.

However, then he completely blows it up with an outlandish turn of events. This sudden and unexpected twist just takes away all the excitement that was building up. It makes the whole experience less engaging and leaves me feeling a bit disappointed.

It's a shame because the initial ideas in his plays have so much potential. But these wild and unforeseen changes seem to undermine that potential and make the plays not as enjoyable as they could have been.

I still have hope that Martin will find a better balance between his creative concepts and the way he develops the story in future plays. Maybe then, I'll be able to fully appreciate his work without being let down by these strange and sometimes jarring turns.

Martin's absurdist piece has its moments of success, but at times it feels merely madcap. Madcap can mean many things. It can bring to mind the wildly ridiculous Marx Brothers movies of the 1930s or the sophisticated wit of William Powell and Myrna Loy in The Thin Man. Martin offers us a bit of both, with a hint of existentialism thrown in for good measure.

He combines real-life characters like Pablo Picasso and Albert Einstein (along with a brief cameo by Elvis) and a collection of local Parisian eccentrics. The outcome is a mixed bag. It makes for a good read. I've even staged a production of the show. While it gives the audience a lot to ponder, Martin is sly about how he gets them to do it.

He lures the audience in with a zany pretense and the comic power of his own name, only to drop a moral on them at the end. It's a bit anticlimactic. Overall, Martin's work has its charm and its flaws, but it definitely makes an impression.

Einstein and Picasso walk into a bar...

This is a scene that could only be written by the great Steve Martin. The play is witty, absurd, and truly delightful.

It poses some interesting questions. Does inspiration strike the scientist and the artist in the same way and with equal frequency? Do they both pursue their dreams with the hope of attracting women?

The play's exploration of these themes is both clever and engaging. It makes us think about the similarities and differences between the worlds of science and art, and how the pursuit of inspiration and success can sometimes be intertwined with other motives.

Overall, it's a brilliant piece of work that showcases Steve Martin's unique talent for creating humorous and thought-provoking plays.

It's truly hilarious, in an endearing sort of way.

I really can't envision taking it overly seriously (and that's a good thing, isn't it, sometimes?)

Consequently, I can't really fathom doing it for anything other than a college production.

But I guess I hold that view about a great many American theatre works.

Perhaps it's because there's often a sense of playfulness and lightheartedness that pervades them.

While they may not always strive for the utmost in profundity or严肃性, they do manage to bring a smile to one's face and a bit of entertainment to the stage.

And in a world where we often need a break from the more serious aspects of life, this kind of cutesy and funny theatre can be a welcome diversion.

It allows us to let go for a while and simply enjoy the moment.

So, while it may not be something that I would necessarily consider for a more professional or highbrow production, it has its place and its charm in the world of college theatre and beyond.

Cute & enjoyable!

This description truly fits the experience we had at my couples book club.

We decided to do a little reader's theater, which added an extra layer of fun and excitement.

Each couple took turns reading different parts of the story, bringing the characters to life.

The expressions and emotions on everyone's faces were priceless as we immersed ourselves in the narrative.

It was a wonderful way to bond with our partners and share in the joy of literature.

The cute moments in the story had us all giggling, and the enjoyable atmosphere made it a memorable event.

I would highly recommend doing a reader's theater at your own book club or gathering.

It's a great way to add some entertainment and make the experience even more special.

A few scattered thoughts. This is not an actual review.

Patter for the Floating Lady and WASP were truly revelations. I had never read them before, and I was completely stunned by their beauty and depth. The way the words were crafted, the imagery they evoked, it was simply breathtaking.

Picasso, of course, is a genius. His work is brilliant and beautiful, and I was already well aware of his talent. However, reading these particular pieces added a new dimension to my understanding of his art. It was like seeing a familiar face from a different angle, and being amazed all over again.

Overall, this was a wonderful experience, and I'm looking forward to exploring more of these works in the future.
