A Wild Sheep Chase: Exactly as the title suggests
The title of this novel says it all - Murakami leads the reader on a wild sheep chase through the world of Tokyo and Hokkaido in 1978, with an everyman protagonist working at a small ad agency getting a mysterious visitor one day in response to a picture of sheep in a mountain pasture, sending him on said adventure to find his long-lost friend the Rat. He brings his new girlfriend and encounters the Sheep Professor, Sheep Man, and a whole lotta very weird shit along the way. I didn't really understand what was happening or the significance/symbolism, but I can say the story was interesting enough to carry me along, though I was left a bit perplexed. I mostly listened to the audiobook on a train trip to Manchester, so I may not had my full attention focused the whole time. I think it's one that will need another read later to reveal more hidden depths.
