La Fantasia e la Realtà sono legate da un confine visibile in base alla nostra percezione delle Stesse. Più cresciamo e più questo confine si assottiglia per lasciare spazio al grigiore della Realtà, ma è possibile scrivere una raccolta di racconti e vivere queste storie con il cuore e gli occhi di un bambino? Sì è possibile e la penna di McEwan ne è la grande dimostrazione.
Conservo un ricordo bellissimo delle scuole medie perché un professore lesse un brano di questo libro, proprio la 'Pomata Svanilina' e nel rileggerla ho avuto ben chiara l'immagine da ragazzina che fantasticavo su questo oggetto che mi era piaciuto così tanto da 'giocare' con il barattolo blu della pomata per il raffreddore e grazie alla Fantasia anche quella pomata poteva donare l'invisibilità.
La Fantasia non ci deve mai abbandonare del tutto, una piccola parte ci insegna McEwan, deve accompagnarci anche nella crescita per ricordare con affetto momenti felici ed avere sempre un altro modo di vedere le cose, mai piatto e mai banale ma colorato e pieno di speranza.

I'd asked for this for Christmas, on the strength of McEwan being one of my favourite authors, without prior knowledge of this book being intended (initially) for children. Reading it was a delightful pleasure, despite not being the target audience, I found it a very enjoyable hour's amusement.

The titular daydreamer is an eleven year old boy, and the short novel follows a few chapters in his family life and fantasy life too. Insightful and intelligent, believable in both the mundane and fantastical, high-quality writing without being unnecessarily wordy. I just thought it was a lovely and well-judged little insight into the thoughts and deeds of a young man - highlighting Ian McEwan's craft and wit once again.

My only complaint would be the (necessarily, I understand) short length. I could gladly have read a book twice this length on the same subject.

Nice book. I have never read a book which talks about someone's thoughts, dreams and feelings. This books is mostly about Peter's dreams and how he faced them. I enjoyed reading the chapter where Peter discovers moving dolls. In that chapter the dolls rebel against them to get a good place.

Very interesting to read. How does he dream so much?! And why??? You learn crazy lessons from this book and never daydream.

Dacă mergi într-o librărie și zărești pe un raft Visătorul, cunoscând măcar o parte dintre cărțile anterioare ale lui Ian McEwan, vei citi coperta a patra, o vei cumpăra (pentru că, nu-i așa, îți place cum scrie autorul britanic) și vei pleca fericit/-ă cu ea acasă. Dar absolut nimic nu te va pregăti pentru ceea ce va urma când vei deschide copertele cărții. Poate doar dacă ai citit despre volum anterior (poate chiar aici, pe Bookaholic :) ). Chiar și-așa, știind câteva lucruri despre carte, mie mi-a fost greu să mi-l imaginez pe McEwan scriind o carte pentru copii (mai ales după Grădina de ciment). Și am fost plăcut surprinsă de ceea ce am găsit în Visătorul. Motivez imediat.

În 1994, Ian McEwan publica o cărticică ce purta numele de The Daydreamer, cu ilustrații de Anthony Browne, vândută în lume fie precum o carte pentru copii, fie precum o carte pentru adulți. La o distanță foarte mare, Editura Polirom publica, în 2013, Visătorul – traducere și note de Dana Crăciun, colecția „Biblioteca Polirom. Junior” („Cărți pentru adolescenți, cărți pentru tineri de toate vârstele”), 168 de pagini, fără ilustrații. Din prefață, aflăm câteva lucruri vitale în ceea ce privește geneza cărții: „Ceea ce ne atrage la cărțile pentru copii este plăcerea pe care ele le-o oferă copiilor noștri, iar asta nu ține atît de mult de literatură, cît de dragoste. La scurt timp după ce am început să scriu și să citesc cu voce tare Visătorul, m-am gîndit că ar fi, poate, mai bine să uit de redutabila noastră tradiție a literaturii pentru copii și să scriu o carte pentru adulți despre un copil, într-un limbaj pe care să-l înțeleagă copiii. În secolul lui Hemingway și Calvino, proza simplă nu trebuie să descurajeze cititorul rafinat” (pp. 10-11).

Mai mult, autorul mărturisește că editorii și criticii săi au fost, în faza incipientă, proprii săi copii, cărora le citea, în fiecare seară, câte un capitol din „povestirile lui Peter” (așa cum le numise inițial). Un test bun, care-i valida vocea și, implicit, povestea respectivă. Iar acest lucru se vede cu ochiul liber în carte, căci nu pui la îndoială nicio clipă autenticitatea personajelor și veridicitatea întâmplărilor, chiar dacă acestea din urmă sunt la granița dintre real și fantastic.

McEwan a mai avut personaje-copii pe care le-a urmărit într-o proză sau alta dar, de data aceasta, tonul cărții este potrivit pentru cei mici – așa cum spune în prefață, folosește un limbaj simplu, fraze și povestiri scurte – și, întocmai precum orice volum de literatură pentru copii, adulții pot găsi și în Visătorul sensuri mai profunde, pot căuta dincolo de suprafață un registru potrivit lor. Libro per ragazzi molto bello! Sicuramente se lo avessi letto anni fa mi avrebbe sicuramente colpita.
Il protagonista è Peter, di cui McEwan racconta alcuni sogni a occhi aperti.

La scrittura di McEwan è magistrale, anche se in questo caso è tarata su un pubblico giovane. In ogni caso, le storie raccontate sono molto profonde e spesso toccanti. Quella che mi è piaciuta di più in assoluto è proprio "Il gatto" e anche l'incipit "Due parole su Peter" non è da meno!

Scorrevole e piacevole: perfetto come lettura invernale!

Probably one of the best writers today. Good not because he would tell who knows how many stories at the village pub, but because he knows how to write a novel. McEwan has always been about narrative technique and building plausibility around a strange event, usually unacceptable for a mind too anchored in the natural unfolding of immediate reality, not in the natural of possibilities. But if the psychological motivation is plausible, even our most disgusting actions fall within the realm of the acceptable. Everything is justifiable in the end.
Dreaming is a confrontation with reality and this is achieved through specific means, metamorphosis prevailing. Of course, this is a child, Peter Fortune, who faces some harsh aspects of reality that he can not cope with, such as parents, school, school aggression, the death of the cat, his sister and the universe. He opposes their own reality: that of dreaming. It is not always the best way, because you can forget your sister in the bus station (as happened in the book) or hinder your father in household chores, which generates guilt, so the effort to cover it. But it's the most satisfying when reality could crush you.
Composed of seemingly independent stories, the novel acquires unity through the character and the evolution of the theme. For the children? Less. Maybe more for adults who are trying to understand children.

One of McEwan's few inroads into writing for the younger audience features young Peter Fortune and his very realistic and often profound daydreams told across a number of short stories…. From inhibiting the bodies of his pet cat, a baby and an adult to finding and using vanishing cream and outwitting and outfighting a school bully without using any physical violence. 5 out of 12.

Çocukluğun nasıl olduğunu hatırlatan tatlı bir kitap

Cute, light and easy read. Just like a daydream it will take you away from the real world for a little while.
