I'll be totally honest, this was far sadder than I had anticipated. I also think I would perhaps consider anyone who might be depressed or suicidal to consider saving this book for a day where they aren't struggling so much.
Nasser Ali Khan's story as depicted in this book is incredibly heartbreaking. Seeing the events surrounding his death unfold on the page is one of the saddest things I have read in some time. I thought this depicted depression and suicidal feelings quite well, especially in the sense that just because one appears successful or loved, doesn't necessarily mean they feel that way. Sometimes a person's depression doesn't make sense to anyone but themselves. Satrapi's art is on point, and her storytelling is in peak form.
On a lighter note, the dish chicken with plums sounded delicious from the description, and I would absolutely want to try it.
I would recommend this, especially to fans of Satrapi's other work. My recommendation comes with a content warning for depression and suicide.
