This second trilogy was definitely way more predictable and forumlaric than the first, but I still enjoyed it. Saw the ending coming a mile off though, but I guess that's middle grade literature for ya.

I'm a forty year old woman, this book wasn't written for the likes of me. Therefore, I am not going to rate it. I'm not even sure what I'd give it anyway. I read it for a challenge, what more can I say.

This has been the best book so far, just the though of what the spiders do makes me feel ill. Darren survives the water but he needs to inform the vampires of what transpired in the tunnels. With the aid of the wolves Darren recovers and is able to find a safe way back into vampire mountain to seek out the princes.

Honestly best book in the series but once again the treatment of arra sails and her character was simply Misogynistic and it's gross. The whole scene where she declares her intent to fight and they all talk about how women shouldn't and she's like mmmm yeah the enemies would mistake you for women too because get it woman is weak he he - like seriously? Shut up this is worst narrative??? You're going to mention women like 4 times this whole series and have this be one of them?
But yeah one of the best books minus those three lines

This series really has lost all of its appeal. Each of the last three installments feels like it was churned out without a single thought other than to make money. Each was only part of a book with long sections dedicated to useless scenes and dialogues that were drawn out for far too long with the single purpose of increasing the page count. The first three of the series started out promising and were entertaining, but when the story turned away from the Cirque Du Freak and focused on the society of the vampires, it just all went downhill from there. I thought this was supposed to be middle-grade horror. No one wants to read about how vampires are honorable, trustworthy, and reliable. At least I don't anyway. I thought Mr. Crepsley was creepy in the first three books, but now his character has been reduced to a caring, soft-hearted foster parent for Darren. WTF!!! If you decide to you want to read this, stick to the first three stop, srsly!

This was another great book from Darren Shan, he never fails to disappoint me with his writing and this one is no exception. There's so much filled into this book that you can't help but be gripped, action a plenty and tons of fighting, arguing and even love and treachery too. This was about Darren after he managed to get free of the mountain, ok so he's a coward well so I thought in his action to run away rather than face death, he was battered and bruised and cold and hungry from his journey in the water. The wolves he befriended on the way to vampire mountain found him barely alive on the river bank and gradually nursed him back to health, teaching him to run as part of the pack, eventually he was strong enough to hunt for himself and to aid the wolves who had helped him whilst out hunting one time he came across Mr Crepsley, Arra and Curta they were talking quite openly about the investment that was due to be held in two days to make Curta a prince. Darren heard this and decided that everyone should know what a traitor he was and that he was working with the vampinese not totally against them. He found a way back into the mountain to talk and explain what happened to Seba and went to the Curta's investment and explained the story again to the other princes amidst vampires threatening to kill him. They believed him then went on to find out about the vampinese down in one of the caves and started tracking them, determined to fight and get rid of them, there was a huge battle scene between spider, vampires and vampinese and the vampires were victorious but they lost a few of their own. After all the drama was out of the way they went back to interrogate Curta who told everyone why he became a traitor, then the princes court had to decide what to do with Darren after all he did abandon the mountain before receiving his punishment for failing the initiation challenge.

Darren seemed a lot strong in mind and spirit in this one and I liked that, he was more independent and showed real growth from the last book, really showing his age then. He was at first weak and miserable then he realised what he was condemning everyone else to after he was wallowing in self pity. At the end of the book he showed real courage and amazing decorum it was like you could see his mind changing.

It was unusual to see Mr Crepsley upset or angry throughout this book we started to see a few bits and pieces of his real self and I couldn't help but love him more because of it, it never made him lose the mysterious feeling around him but it made him seem gentler more compassionate.

I'll definitely be reading the next in the series I'm hooked!

This trilogy of books was building up to this, and it’s honestly extremely disappointing. For a group of supposedly ancient vampires, they sure do have the emotional complexity and behavioural tics of teenagers.

Okay, this is getting kinda too absurd.
Having Darren- a half-vampire win over Arra and achieving several feats, yeah sure I can accept that.
But having an entire mountain of vampires to vote for him to be a prince? Woah, that’s ridiculous.

Other than that, the plot in this 6th book is also mediocre compared to that of the 4th and the 5th. A total letdown, to be honest.
