Climax: darren finally gets recovered and tries to get back to vampire mountain with help of some wolves. when he gets there he first meets up with mr.crepsley's trainer. the trainer believes darren of kurda and helps hi anouce the new to every mountain in the mountain. when dareen does come out to announce the news two of kurdas men try to kill darren before he spoke. the two vampires were stoped and turned out to be new vampires being trained by kurda.

Theme: the theme of this story was to never give up on your goals. Darren was so beat up after rolling out of the river cave and he felt like he had to tell the vampires at vampire mountain what was going on. therefore, he lived with wolves for awhile so he can regain his strength. after he was healthy he developed determination to complete his goal. & he did with help of and old wolf;therefore, shows that with determination you can complete anything you want. all you have to do is work your way up to it because nothing ever comes easy.

The "Vampire Rites" Trilogy was probably my favourite in the Darren Shan Saga. It's a real departure from the first three, and the series ages with his readers. In the early books, the character really wrestles with being half human, and I think it gets tiresome for the reader. So this trilogy really develops Darren adopting the culture and vampire ways, and the stakes feel higher. I did think this book took too long to get going, he spent like 8 chapters frolicking with wolves.
One thing I wish the series would leave behind is the need to remind the reader of previous plot points, about 20 pages of each book does some serious rehashing.

The Vampire Prince is a step in the right direction for continued improvement. While the decisions of the council irritated me in the fifth book, and Darren’s adherence to the ridiculous trials, the plot is picking up from that cliffhanger to go in directions I like again.

Graphic and depressingly grim with some of the fight scenes, I'm glad Darren redeemed himself more in my eyes with his thoughts towards some actions that had to happen. Crepsley finally grew more courageous in the face of common sense, and I loved seeing the wolves again, this time with a much larger role.

The punishment for the vampires is pretty brutal stuff – a strange contraption where they’re dropped on a bed of stakes and don’t always die instantly. Not fun.

The beginning was interesting with how he recovered, to the reactions of the vampires and the revelation of the traitor at hand. The ending - well, I kind of expected something like that to occur - although I wasn't sure how it would come about. It's a little outlandish and silly but I think it's to tie up with the prophecy. Have a feeling, thanks mainly to the movie, who his arch-nemesis will be.

I was kind of hoping to leave Vampire Mountain for a bit but don't see that happening anytime soon. Darren is such a likeable character that I'm glad the vampires in this book held more common sense than before.

Shan is leaving the black-and-white behind, redeeming the characters a little as their world opens and the opinions start to stretch out, seeking that there may be valid points even in the actions of traitors. Darren’s turning an eye toward the possibilities of the vampineze – the big, bad enemy of them all – may have started with the same good intentions the vampires did. They could be cut from the same cloth after all.

tThere are twelve books in the Cirque du Freak series by Darren Shan and I read my way through all of them in about three weeks as a child! I absolutely loved them and was totally immersed in the world created by Darren Shan from the get go. October is just the perfect time to re-read them all! Especially when I have access to all the audio books.

This series is everything I remember. Creepy, full of gore and suspense, leaving you wanting more! All the characters are incredibly unique and developed. The story as a whole is different from comparison novels and you can tell with each book that there is much more of a story to come. Shan has written the books whilst planning ahead. Small details that suggest further meaning crop up later in the series and it is sheer genius and talent.

There is gore, which I enjoyed immensely. Also, some humour thrown in so it wasn't completely gross and disgusting all the time. It was a nice way to break things up so it didn't feel dark and bleak every step of the way. I was lucky enough to meet the author at Edinburgh Book Festival in 2019 and every sentence on every page of these books oozes his personality, humour and fantastic mind! You are completely immersed into the world of Darren Shan, Mr Crepsley and all the other vampires with just a few sentences.

I think this series will forever be a favourite of mine! Especially during the spooky season! This book in particular is like the vampire version of the Hunger Games and I love it!

Prompts this fits for reading challenges: Yellow cover, green cover, body part on the cover, vampire, royalty, refugee, secrets, complicated relationships, mythological creatures, survival, battle, pet as a character (Madame Octa), includes a funeral, murder, character with a visible/physical disability, surprise ending.

Darren's having a heck of a time. Having just watched a friend be murdered by another friend in book five, he nearly drowns trying to escape from a cavern to get away from the murderer and a group of bloodthirsty vampaneze. Exhausted and freezing, he considers his options, which are few. At the end of book five, the vampires were planning to kill him off. Now he's got to worry about that, while keeping himself safe from the traitor in the last book, and trying to protect his friends from the vampaneze who wait in hiding. This sixth installment of his story as a vampire's assistant is thrilling and adventurous.

Darren's maturity in his attitude toward death and murder stuck out most to me in this book. He returns the prodigal son when he exposes the Vampaneeze, but there are consequences — dire ones. Darren finally becomes more self-dependent here, too. After all the action in the last book, The Vampire Prince sets us up for the next stage in Darren Shan's story.

I remember later in the book numbers that this series got really weird, but I did not remember the specific weirds in this book. Thankfully the books are still a quick read, because this book in particularly there was a lot of 'luckily x happened so I could yz' and just a bunch of things being explained away much too conveniently, and mostly because their luck/coincidence was pointed out by the author/narrator. The roundabout method of solving the ending problem also seemed like the lazy difficult way (i.e. creating more work by being too lazy to address the actual/more direct problem) that should not have been handled as such by adults who have been around forever (though that very fact implies they are sticks in the mud when it comes to change, so...) Not cringe enough for me to jump ship, but getting close.
