Interesting example of mimetic writing. If you had no information whatsoever about the author, you probably could guess that he's young, male, and has Asperger's syndrome just from the topics and sentence structure. For example, while he does use figures of speech, he explains them all at length and even includes an additional glossary of them. Worth reading if you'd like a better insight into what it's like to have Asperger's. I'd thank whichever of my Twitter friends recommended it, but I can't remember who it was. Sorry.

This is a must read for any young person who has Asperger Syndrome, NVLD, ADHD, or just doesn't fit neatly into boxes. It should also be required reading for all high school teachers and parents-SPED or not. Luke Jackson's wry humor can't be beat, and he has a unique perspective on Autism as well as the roles adolescents are supposed to conform to.

A colleague recommended this when I was trying to understand a bit more about teens with Asperger Syndrome. I'm glad she did! It was both thought provoking and charming. I not only learned about Aspergers but picked up some more Britishisms along the way. The writing and information flow can feel a little off at times, but given that it is written by a 13 year-old with Aspergers, all is forgiven. I highly recommend this to anyone who works with, or may work with, children with Aspergers.

Completely entertaining and educational. Written by a 13-year old with Asperger Syndrome, with very personal and quirky insights. It was so strange to see so much of my kids in characteristics he described. Wow. His philosophy on homework matches my oldest son's almost perfectly. I love it. Not only does he do a great job of explaining the thinking or sensitivities of those with Autistic spectrum issues, but he gives helpful advice to kids that can help them hang in there (also, his metaphor use and definitions are hilarious).

freaks, Geeks and aspeger syndrome is a really well written book from a boys percpective of aspeger syndrome. There are not many books out there for teenagers who have the disablilty and i know that even though i am a girl, it really helped me come to terms with the condition i was facing. with humor and pictures it will grab you attention. giving great advice for both teenagers and parents, this book is a muct read if you have Aspeger Syndrome.

The general information in this book is good. What I didn't like about it is the offensive title the author used. I'm aware of the need for books on this subject for the younger reader, but the title just adds to the confusion about a group of people that are misunderstood in the first place. I have never met a person that suffered from aspergers that wasn't a kind and gentle individual. In other words far from a freak or a geek.

I very much look forward to reading this book - my 8 year old son has Aspergers. He was diagnosed 3 years ago, but we suspected as much as early as 3 years of age.

This was good. A little silly in places and a little repetitive in the wording, but nothing egregious (especially considering the author's age). He *is* from the UK so some of the vocabulary (and legal info) is UK-specific which might throw young readers for a loop, but all in all I think this would be a book worth having on your shelf if you have or work with kids on with AS/high-functioning autism. The tone/style are definitely more appealing than some 'adolescent guide to'-style books I've read.

What can I say? this book helped me grasp the fact that I have Aspergers Syndrome myself, and showed that I wasn't the only one who felt like screaming out the window "HA! I have AS and you don't!" A very good book, subtle and informative, and shows the various stages of life that can be difficult for some kids with AS, and throws humor in at all times. Luke Jackson was my age when he wrote the book, and once I read it, I realised that alot of people are like me. It is enlightening, and interesting, wether you, or anyone you know has Aspergers Sydrome or not, it's a great read :)

Well worth a read for anyone in education. Luke gives a real sense of what it's like day to day to not only be diagnosed with AS, but to live in a family where there are several people with autism. I feel that's something often overlooked when we read books or do courses about autism/AS - they tend to treat people as single case studies and not as part of a family unit. For me that was the big strength of this book - Luke talks about his mother and younger brothers who are all on the spectrum to varying degrees, plus his sisters who don't seem to be. That's a vital perspective for educators to consider.

There were some points which I wonder whether Luke would revise/update now - his opinions on vaccinations, GF diet and so on would bear looking at again in the light of more recent science. We are sixteen years and a number of retractions and fraud charges later, after all. But as a whole, it hangs together well and has certainly given me food for thought when working with children on the spectrum.

I read this book for a course on Autism and it was unfortunately one of my least favorites from the class. It was written by a boy on the Spectrum so it might be very valuable to a parent or to another young adult with autism. I just don't like kids that age very much and he wrote just like you would expect someone that age to write. It's great that he put it out there, but it was hard for me to get through for that reason.
