I feel so let down. I've been pretty much enjoying this series even though the first one wasn't so good. The writing in this one reminded me of the first one. First of all I thought they were being all original when they didn't do the predictable thing and make Darren's sworn enemy show up as the leader of the bad guys. His sworn enemy was only a protector of the leader of the bad guys. I thought it was cool they were breaking the mold and that the author had tricked me. Too bad it turned out they did the little "ooh look, a revelation!" and did the predictable thing after all, and on top of that they ended the book happily and then you turn the page and it starts a new chapter with "I wish that had been what had happened," leading you into a horrific reversal of what you'd just read and ending with a very important character dying. Oh wonderful. That's just bad form, man. Bad form.

Killers of the Dawn
Author: Darren Shan

"He wasn't like this when I knew him."

"Yes, he was," Mr Crepsley disagreed. "He just had not grown into his true evil self yet. He was born bad, as certain people are. Humans will tell you that everybody can be helped, that everyone has a choice. In my experience, that is not so. Good people can sometimes choose badness, but bad people cannot choose good."

"I don't believe that," Harkat said softly. "I think good and evil exist...in all of us. We might be born leaning more towards...one than the other, but the choice is there. It has to be. Otherwise, we're mere...puppets of fate."

The police believe that Darren is behind all the murders. This causes a large-scale chase, forcing Darren to flee. When he is finally captured together with his companions, they have to come up with an escape plan.

Because of all this, they have lost a lot of valuable time and more and more innocent human victims are being killed.

Meanwhile, the rulers of the Vampanese have outwitted them and the end seems nowhere in sight....

Like "Allies of the Night" this book was also very repetitive. The plot ended very abruptly, as in the other parts of the series.

Trigger warnings:
Death, violence, murder, grief, blood

What a plot twist. Crepsley dies. Steve is the Lord. RV loses his hands again. Great story. Not-so-scary cover.

I just finished reading this book yesterday and what a twist for horrors it was. The plot took a turn I knew was coming but did not want to believe it would. While this book is meant for horror and to make your insides squirm I found the ending was very depressing. I could not help but shed a tear for the outcome was not to my liking.

While the story was well written and nothing was wrong with it, my heart ached and I stuffed myself with cake that night. To avoid spoiling I will only say someone died and I was very found of them. Still although, it pains me to see such a death I continue to read to the very last word. I guess people may say I get to attached to books and the characters are not real but when you read such a long series as this how can you not get attached?

Forever I will be in woe for the death of such a brilliant characters, however, I can not say to stop reading this series. I will continue on even if I must read it through tears. For this is too good of a series to stop.
