tDarren Shan, hunting the Vampaneze in a city, finally finds what he’s looking for. He starts to hunt them down, hoping to strike the Vampaneze Lord down. But his quest is nowhere as simple as he thinks.
t“Killer of the Dawn” was a book that made me want to keep reading the series. The previous two books in the series weren’t very satisfying for me, and I was considering moving on to another series. Thankfully I gave this book a chance, otherwise I would have never read the remaining books, which I ended up enjoying. “Killers of the Dawn” was enjoyable by itself. There’s definitely no lack of action, there is an aspect of mystery, and there is a huge shock at the end (which has become a trend in the series).
tThere isn’t much that I disliked about the book, especially with my standards rather low after the last two books. What I feel were the biggest improvements were that for one, the book stuck to one theme, and second, it felt like its own book, rather than a monotonous extension of another one. That is why I would give this book 5 stars.

Not happy. I knew I knew, was tricked into thinking maybe I didn't know. Then grieved, then revoked the grief to only grieve again... To then know what I originally knew.

Damn you!

Crepsley death was in vanes and has royally ticked me off.

Steve needs to die, never disliked a character in a book so much the absolute swine.

Let me start with, this book is just as amazing as the rest!!!!! I am thoroughly entertained and the action is great. But... that ending just killed me. I know that in a series this long not everyone services, but did it have to be one of my favorites?!?! Like come on man!!!!

I do love this, but I’m still sad!!! The plot was great!!! I love the introduction of a few new characters. They aren’t my favorites or anything, but it brought in a new dynamic. I actually cannot believe there are only three books left!!! How on earth is everything going to be wrapped up in only three more to go!?!?!? I’ll find out soon enough!! Mainly cause I’m binging this series.

At this point, I recommend this to those who love Darren Shan or vampires!! And I also highly recommend the audio books for this series. Ralph Lister is perfect!!!

I do enjoy this series. I SWEAR!! But the way these books have been paced have confused me so much. The action in this book is fun and very fast paced. I feel like our three hunters (Crepsley, Darren, and Vancha) are facing off against the Vampaneze the entire time. Every turn they make has something else crop up for them to deal with (people learning that vampires are real, the cop thinking they're lying, angry mobs in apartment complexes....)

But the past two books were slow. This book is makes up for a lot of the slowness of the past few books. There is STILL a lot for the hunters to face before defeating the Vampaneze Lord.

And lets talk about  Crepsley dying! my heart hurts. He hasn't really been fair to Darren this whole series. Never really telling Darren the whole truth about vampire customs and culture. And now Darren's mentor is GONE and we have 3 books left. WHAT

fun fact about me is that Larten Crepsley is one of my favourite characters of all time and I also have very *very* vivid memories of reading the last few chapters of this book for the first time :)

THIS IS NOT a whole book

It's like someone ripped out the middle of the story and threw a cover around it.

The beginning was pretty much non-existent (essentially, the "beginning" was book 8) and the ending was another big fat TO BE CONTINUED...

How hard would it be to make these books a bit longer so we don't continuously run into this?

And when they  offed Mr. Crepsley are you kidding me??

The whole fake-out just yanked my emotional cord like a yo-yo. I haven't felt that betrayed by an author in a long time. This ending made continuing with the series nearly insurmountable.

Audiobook Comments
Read by Ralph Lister - and he did a pretty fab job of it.

I liked the book, but I like all the books by Darren Shan. He really knows how to keep a reader on the edge of their seats and on edge just waiting to see how the problem will be resolved. Another reason that Darren is one of my favorite authors is that he can enthuse a reader within the first two chapters, that is how I got hooked to his books. He is an amazing author with an amazing imagination on how the characters should act and live or die. He has been able to capture the interests of other amazing authors as well such as Alexander Gordon Smith, and other very interesting authors.

Darren has changed a lot since being blooded as a prince of the vampire clan about six or so years ago back at Vampire Mountain when he warned everyone about the Vampaneze who were hiding out in the tunnels of the mountain. Since being blooded as a Prince, Darren has felt less guilt with killing Vampaneze. The first time that Darren had killed a Vampaneze, he felt so guilty because the Vampaneze was only a few years older than he was. After he killed him he did not want to drag out the killing anymore until he seen that Ara Sails a friend and ex-mate of Mr. Crepsley was in trouble and needed help. Killers of the Dawn is the 9th book of the Cirque Du Freak series and picks up after the little battle between the Hunters who are the two Vampire Princes, Darren Shan, Vancha March and the non-prince mentor of Darren's, Mr. Crepsley, who are the vampaneze lord Steve Leonard who was Darren's childhood friend before joining the ranks of the undead with Mr. Crepsley. The vampires have a prophecy that when the vampaneze lord is revealed, three vampires must hunt him down and kill him so that they may win the war of the scars. Only the hunters may be able to kill the Vampaneze for if someone else does the Vampaneze will win the war.

Darren has really grown up since being blooded as a Vampire Prince. He has grown into his throne by killing the vampaneze. He has really come to accept the fact that there is no way to go back to being human.

The setting at the beginning of the book, Darren is back in the tunnels of blood with Mr. Crepsley and old friend Harkat Mulds. There was never a time period given, but I would have to guess it was modern times because they were using cell phones and guns. They are once again looking for the Vampaneze Lord. The tunnels of blood are located underneath Mr. Crepsley's old home town. The first time Darren was in the town, he was with Mr. Crepsley and his cirque friend Evra Von the Snake boy. The first time they were chasing a mad vampaneze named Mourlough. They had killed Mourlough when they had hunted and found him in the tunnels.

If I had to recommend this book to anyone, it would probably have to be for people who can handle gory scenes and some really bad profanity. It would be for people of ages 14 and up, and if I had to choose a gender it would probably have to be male.
