Mungkin saya yang kurang jeli, tapi baru di buku asli karya sir Arthur Conan Doyle ini saya menemukan sudut pandang orang ke-tiga, bukan dr. Watson.

The 'Hound Of The Baskervilles' is a perfect old fashioned crime story. On the other hand 'The valley of fears' part 1 is the only part where the particular Sherlock Holmes look and feel can be sensed. Part 2 was not interesting at all.

"The Valley of Fear" follows somewhat the same structure of "A Study in Scarlet", where to understand the main story it was necessary to know a previous and seemingly unrelated story. It was interesting but it's no contenter to be the best book of the series.

“It is not my intention to be fulsome, but I confess that I covet your skull.”
Šie Šerloka Holmsa stāsti nezinu, kāpēc man nepaliek atmiņā. Tas droši vien nozīmē, ka es nebiju šausmīgi ieinteresēta stāsta notikumos.

Short stories are definitely Sherlock's way. These 2 novels are fantastic but lack the amazing pace you find in Doyle's short stories.

I just finished this two separate novels and like it very much even though I had a felling of deja vu with the Valley of Fear because of the way it was plotte, when compared with A study in scarlet.

I loved the hound of the Baskervilles which way my first encounter with Sherlock Holmes. My very first Holmes story that I studied at school. I found the flash black part of the valley of a Fear a little bit too long for my taste and not as compelling as A study in scarlet , which makes me give only four stars to this two combined novels.
Otherwise I recommend it to those who are interested to read more of Holmes and Watson’s adventures.

Let's face it: Hound of the Baskervilles is the only one of the Holmes novels which really approaches the quality of the short stories, which were where for the most part the Sherlock Holmes canon really shines. The Valley of Fear, in particular, was a clunky reversion to a structure much like that of A Study In Scarlet, complete with overlong detour to America.

Then again, this Wordsworth collection is at least modestly-priced. Hound is five stars, Valley is at best three stars, so let's split the difference and call the compilation four stars. Full review: https://fakegeekboy.wordpress.com/202... and https://fakegeekboy.wordpress.com/202...
