The Way I feel by Janan Cain is all about emotions. The book describes many different feelings in a way that children can understand. I was quickly bored with the book because there was no storyline, but I think this would be a great way for students to learn emotions. I would use this in my classroom to help students discuss how they are feeling. This book would also be a great writing prompt for younger children. I would have students write what emotions they are feeling that day.

The way I feel is a book that introduces different emotions to younger readers. The book consists of very important emotions as well, such as sadness, anger, happiness, etc. I absolutely loved the illustrations in this book. Each page was so colorful and matched the emotions so well! This is definitely a book that I would recommend to teachers. The book provides so much information and for younger readers, it would be good for them to be fully introduced to these emotions through a book. An activity that I think would be good to go with this would be to have your students draw/color a picture of their favorite emotion from the book. This will require them to think back to the book and the emotions that were discussed. Overall, I believe this was a well thought out children’s book. It is a good informational book for younger readers and allows students to obtain more knowledge.

Text to self connection

Growing up this peace of literature would have been extremely helpful dealing with big emotions! As young children we have big emotions just as adults . As children we do not have all the tools set fourth to handle them. In the text is share why they say these emotions and showing several other people having these emotions. It’s a great book to help introduce social and emotional skills for students!

I really enjoyed this book, as it was recommended for the primary grades. I teach kindergarten and can defiantly see using this book in my classroom. It teaches rhyming, feelings, onomatopoeias, and strong vocabulary words for children. Children can make connections to the text to their own feelings as well as notice how the pictures/illustrations should match the words of a book. This book has many great teaching point and would be great for kinders.

May is Mental Health Awareness month and I am a big advocate in children’s books that help teach/promote healthy mental health! One of the key components in raising mentally healthy kids is helping them recognize the different emotions and feelings they have.

The Way I Feel is an excellent tool that gives the reader short descriptions of common emotions. With bright and colorful illustrations, the reader can learn about the initial meaning of certain feelings: a very valuable tool! I appreciate how this book includes but also goes beyond the typical mad, sad, happy. Young children are introduced to the feeling of frustration, thankfulness, and even jealousy. These are often more difficult emotions to grasp.

Take it another step further and read the story The Way I Feel Too. The author dives even deeper into the complex world of feelings by describing emotions such as worry, hopefulness, and confidence.

These two books really are a treat and I can my family referring to them often! The wide range of emotions with the simple, yet direct, descriptions really show that these two books can be valuable tools in the household, classroom, and even in therapy sessions.

I really like this book I know I say that about every book but I LOVE this book. This book focuses on teaching children the concept of emotions. It also focuses on teaching children to understand these emotions to be able to express them with words. I would use this is the hospital because it is one way to find out how the child is feeling with everything going on. As an activity they can either point to the page that they are feeling or express it through their play or coloring. It is a really good way for us to understand how we should help them next. I love this book and think that everyone should get it because it will be beneficial for children's development.

This book goes over the different stages of emotions kids go through daily. Each page displays a different type of emotion with an example of a situation. This book teaches kids that it's okay to feel and have these different emotions. As a teacher, I would use this book as a read aloud to discuss emotions that students may be holding in and in general. I loved Janan’s lovely illustrations and suggestions at the end of the book on how to express dealing with these emotions as well.

This was a great book for a storytime on Feelings. The kids tried to guess/fill in the word for the emotion in the picture, a very interactive read.

This book is very balanced - "good" and "bad" emotions both (silly and jealous, happy and angry, etc.). The feelings are labeled as such though - they are all just Feelings, with the idea that we all have them. I liked the illustrations too. The colors are so bright and reflective of the emotion pictured - bored is all greys and browns, silly is pretty much every color under the rainbow, etc. Definitely a book to read again.
