I like how this book switches from emotions so quickly. Many social emotional regulation books focus on sad or upset feelings, and it can bring the whole book down. I like how this one switches from excited to disappointed to happy, so the children don't get stuck on one emotion. Additionally, the passages provide explicit descriptions of what these emotions look like. This is helpful for children who have lower social emotional skills, because they are better able to identify feelings with the characteristics provided. I also like how the feelings words are different from the other text, so the students are able to pick out the important word that goes with the picture. Because the author provides detailed illustrations of faces that correspond with the emotions, this book would be very useful in teaching children to recognize different feelings.

I give this book a 5 star, this is one of my favorite books I have found on good reads. This book tackles the ideas of how children can cope with their emotions and how they can channel them in a positive way. This book is good for students social emotional learning, being able to develop empathy for others and building resilience. Teaching students that it is okay to have these specific feelings but helping them be aware of how they can control them in a positive and effective way. This book has several different images that are colorful and have deep/strong meaning. This helps students to put words with images. For example, saying "I am frustrated" and having a picture of a chid who is displaying this feeling of frustrations. This book will also allow students to be able to talk about their feelings and be able to identify them.

This book talks about the different feelings that humans encounter. Whether we feel angry, sad or excited, it is good to reflect upon all the feelings that we can have. The book explains the different ways we might feel and makes the reader feel comfortable and teaches that it is okay to feel certain ways.
The story is told in first person point of view. There isn't really a set character since the illustrations show different people each time, but it is written in a way that it makes the reader feel like the story is about them.
The book contains lots of imagery. It describes the feelings as senses in most cases which makes the reader connect deeper with the emotions. The use of detailed adjectives helps a lot with the use of imagery.
The use of color is essential to the way the author wants to portray the feelings. For anger, the color red is dominant which often means energy and obviosly anger. For sadness, the color blue is used which can mean a form of detachment. When a more positive feeling is described, the colors are more vibrant and when a negative feeling is described, the colors are more dull.
I really enjoyed this book! I feel it is a great book to read to children because it makes them learn about the different emotions that they might be experiencing but they somehow don't know how to face them. The illustrations are so fun and eye catching as well!

Text-To-Text
tThe book, “The Way I Feel,” by Janan Cain, is a younger version of “Feelings”, by Aliki. Both books explain with written words and beautiful, whimsy illustrations the way we feel in many situations. The emotions of story telling both authors do is factual and tangible. Janan Cain’s book is a bright illustration of exactly how we might feel when we are happy, angry, jealous, scared, or frustrated. Aliki’s book portrays the same emotions, but in an older version. I would use both books in my classroom. I would also keep it as a classroom community book for situations that may arise in the classroom between students.

This book shows all different emotions and encourages children to share how they're feeling. It's important for children to learn to have an outlet and understand that they should be encouraged to share the different emotions they have. I would share this book at the beginning of the year to help teach the children their emotions and reassure them that it is a safe space for them to share their feelings.

Feelings and emotions just come popping out at you! What a great book with colorful and vibrant illustrations that express so many moods.

This book is so much fun! What a valuable tool for all young children, autistic children, emotionally disturbed, as well as so many more...

I think this book would be super to use for a lesson on emotions and feelings. What a great lead into a discussion relating to and recognizing our feelings and then how to act and react appropriately.

This book has vivid colors and fun pictures. It teaches what feelings look, feel, and sound like. I would appreciate this book more if some of the pictures depicted children of various ethnicities so that more of my children could relate to this book on a more personal level. However, it is beautifully written and provides opportunities to recognize patterns in the text, such as rhyming and alliteration. It also presents plenty of examples that children of this age group can relate to, such as feeling proud of getting dressed by themselves or feeling bored with nothing to do.

This book follows the emotions of a little girl and how she feels during those times. It's very colorful, soft, and playful. I like how they use other emotions other than happy and sad. And they have real-life instances such as being disappointed someone can't come to play. I like the word placements that they used for certain emotions such as pride. I also like how they highlighted the emotion in a cool font or bright colors. This shows children that it is okay to feel different emotions and not to be ashamed. Everyone has those feelings at times and we as humans need to process our emotions healthily. I liked the illustrations in the book because it seems like their medium was colored pencils because all the images look soft.

The Way I Feel is a wonderfully written children's poetry book. The Way I Feel written and illustrated by Janan Cain is a poetry book that helps children understand their emotions in a less complex way than emotions actually are. Janan's fun and colorful illustrations really help the words pop off the page. Janan helps children understand that feelings just happen and there isn't much you can do to stop from feeling one way or another, feelings aren't bad or good. Feelings just happen.

Summary:
This book goes through and describes all different kinds of emotions and why someone might be feeling them. It addresses feelings like happiness, sadness, thankfulness, silliness, anger, jealousy, and so many more. It expresses these emotions through words and pictures. It ends by describing how none of these feelings are bad, and they make you, you.

Analysis:
I think this is a sweet book that expresses many different emotions well. It shows what the emotions might look or feel like in a variety of different ways. The art in the book is not only very well done, it also encases how the emotions actually do feel.

Classroom Ideas:
This book could easily be used to help children understand emotions. It can be used as a game to see how the children can express each of the feelings. This book can even help them gain a better vocabulary in expressing how they feel leading to ways to communicate with the teacher when they need something or someone.

This book is very short and simple, probably best for children aged approximately 3-5. It covers a narrow range of seven emotions: silly, scared, happy, sad, angry, excited, and proud.

There is a note for parents at the end, about how to talk to kids about emotions. That note was pretty good.

For more advanced kids, I wish there was a book with a wider range of emotions, for example, adding surprised, inspired, awe-struck, frustrated, impatient, jealous, etc.
