The Way I Feel is a nonfiction picture book for children ages 2-8 years old. This book won first place for Publishers Association of the West’s 18th Annual Western U.S. Book Design and Production Competition for the category of Children’s Picture Book. The story explores different feelings children experience and introduces the words used to express them. This story is good for children who are developing vocabulary. It’s especially beneficial for kids to be able to properly express themselves outside of just happy and sad. This book validates the different emotions that children will deal with and gives them the proper words to express themselves. This is especially beneficial for younger kids because it can be hard to explain how you’re feeling when you don't have the words to do so. I enjoy that each emotion has a description and illustration to better explain each word as well as an associated color. Red for angry, blue for sad, etcetera. I don't think kids would typically pick this book up by choice but it is definitely something I could see many parents and teachers choosing to read to or with their kids. This can also open the floor for children to talk more with adults about the way they feel which can greatly benefit infant and early childhood mental health.

This it. This is the book I’ve been looking for. Helps kids identify emotions. You can talk about how emotions all happen and they aren’t bad but what do you do with the emotions.

Additions; interestingly the bit said today that he hated this book. I think he would rather monsters and adventures than talking about feelings.

The illustrations in this book are a bit silly and will most likely make children laugh. However, this story does a good job of describing through words and pictures some of the emotions that children and adults alike feel. The rhyming also makes it a great book for children developing phonological awareness skills. Children will be able to connect the pictures with the word for that emotion. I think this book would be great to use with young children to help them communicate their feelings and better understand those of others.

This is an excellent book for exploring feelings and emotions. The illustrations bring the words to life. The feelings are clearly seen on the faces and body language of the characters in the books. The sentences have good rhythm. The rhyming words add to making the message memorable. A young reader would have difficulty reading this book but could understand the message because of the excellent illustrations. A more advanced reader could read this book and, again, understand the meaning because of the illustrations if the reader had trouble decoding all of the words. However, this book is really designed to be a discussion book with an adult reader who leads the conversation about the book to help children comprehend the meaning.

I honestly and absolutely love this book!!!! Ahhhh lol, from the cover page alone, I already had a feeling that this book would be awesome. It just makes you want to open it and see what's inside. I plan on reading this book to my students, because it teaches them about language and how to express themselves. I love how it shows almost every different emotion and even captures very vivid and expressive illustrations to match each one. I truly appreciate how "The Way I Feel" introduces a wider range of vocabulary to children. Instead of saying that I'm mad, you can say I'm disappointed. And lots of more details are inside the book, I won't give it away. However,I encourage teachers to read it, it's awesome!!

I read this to my daughter and she loved it! She is six and could identify with all of the emotions the children were feeling and she loved the one about jealousy and shyness. I definitely could appreciate the conversation that can come from a book like this where children can express how they feel in certain situations and what causes these feelings. I love the illustrations as well, and this is definitely a book for the classroom library.

Readers will learn all about emotions and feeling throughout this book. they will also learn how actions can create certain feelings. Characters with different appearances can be found on each page allowing for young readers to make connections to each character. The setting of the book changes as the reader turns the page. The pictures are sure to grab the reader's attention as they explode with color and fun designs. The text also has fun fonts and designs that interweave with the pictures.

I am rating this book 5/5 stars. I really enjoyed all of the pictures that the illustrator took time to create. I enjoyed how colorful each page was. I also liked the silliness the story brings to the readers. Even though this is a serious topic in an elementary classroom, it is still fun for the readers.

This book is amazing, I believe it should be included in every elementary classroom. This book teaches children about many emotions they may feel, with an explanation. I also enjoyed this story because it used many examples that could relate to young children's lives. I would include this book in my classroom because it allows children to understand the importance of talking about emotions and using words to describe their feelings.

The book, The Way I Feel is a picturebook. This book did not receive an award to this date. This book is intended for children ages three to five. This book talks about many different emotions such as excited, frustrated, sad, scared, angry, and more. It also gives examples of reasons that someone may feel these kinds of emotions. There was one main character throught the book that was expressing the different kinds of emotions they felt. I gave this book five stars because I loved everything about it from the language that was to to the illustrations that went with each of the emotions. The plot of the book was very organized and detailed. This book would be appealing to children because they have felt these kinds of emotions and they also may have felt these emotions for the same reasons that were listed in the book. The use of language is understandable to children ages three to five. The illustratons throughout the books correlated with the text whicih children would enjoy. I would use this book in the classroom to introduce different emotions that can be felt. This can also be used to talk about how we can respond to the emotions we feel.

Summary: This book follows a young child's emotions and it gives them the understanding that the emotions that they will experience are okay. It goes through the motions of what they will experience and how they will feel and gives them an insight that everyone has emotions and it is important to express themselves.

Evaluation: I think this is a great book for students, especially for younger students around the pre-school through 1st grade age. This book is a cute way to teach students about expressing themselves and accepting their emotions.

Teaching Idea: I would use this book in the beginning of the school year to help set the expectations for the classroom. This will help students cope better with conflict in the classroom and also help them understand their own emotions and how to deal with them.

This book has full page colorful, expressive pictures coupled with rhyming sentences that illustrate the power and reality of emotions. It is a wonderful way to introduce children to the names of emotions they experience. It provides a good opening for discussion of how certain events make a child feel and how they can be handled appropriately. The rhymes are fun and the pictures capture the essence of the emotion written about. It is a book that will be reread many times! The rhymes make it enjoyable to read but at the same time build a child's phonological awareness. It also lays the foundation for future teaching on emotional management.

I liked this book because I think it would be very useful with young children. Children who are just starting to speak, but don't have the words to express their feelings often get frustrated. I have been reading some things lately about how to handle such situations and a lot of sources say that helping them learn the words to express themselves can reduce their frustration. This book has great pictures that illustrate the feelings being described. Reading it with children would help them to understand their feelings and teach them the words to express their feelings.
