Un libro no tan intenso e íntimo como "Flor del Desierto". Es bonito ver cómo Waris busca su identidad somalí sin caer en la idealización de su propia cultura, hace un buen trabajo etnográfico poniendo en tela de juicio su propia cultura y la cultura que adoptó con su proceso migratorio. Por otro lado pensé en que profundizaría más sobre el tema de la MGF en Somalia. Libro recomendado si te has leído su primera novela.

De esta obra ya todo está dicho, sin embargo aquí va:

Great book! I wasn't so fond of the first chapters, but when Waris finally comes to Africa (which the whole book is about) it becomes a very interesting portrait of desert life, and family relations, in Somalia. As a female reader I got both frustrated and scared due to the situation for women there, but Waris way to tell her story also makes you smile. I wonder if there are more books out there, which describe African "countryside-life" in a similar way? If there is I'd gladly read them!

Bardzo mi się podobała ta historia. Była tak dobrze napisana, że czytało nadzwyczaj szybko i płynnie. Sama książka dużo uwagi poświęca sytuacji politycznej, gospodarczej, społecznej w Afryce. Waris Dirie na łamach swojej książki przybliża czytelnikowi największe problemy Afryki i zastanawia się i szuka co ona może zrobić dla swojego kraju. Ta książka to właśnie swego rodzaju podróż przez życie autorki. Momentami smutna i przejmująca, ale pełna nadziei i pasji z jaką Waris Dirie realizuje wyznaczone przez siebie cele.

interessting. but the story is incoherent - it changes from the making of the film Desert Flower to her past to her plans for the future...it is all strings but no ties.

A great autobiography of hitting the iron while it's hot. Waris Dirie is an inspiration. The world is already set against Women (which is sad and unfair). Considering she's from Somalia makes it even tougher! This book was an absolute inspiration.

In dit boek beschrijft Waris haar verlangen naar een thuishaven in Afrika, wat botst met haar weerzin voor sommige traditionele gebruiken en haar strijd voor vrouwenrechten.
Op zich vind ik het verhaal boeiend. Waris Dirie heeft immens veel meegemaakt en schrijft autobiografisch. Maar haar schrijfstijl bevalt me minder en soms vervalt ze in een politiek pamflet, heel erg zwart wit naar mijn mening.

Įdomi , bet prieštaringa informacija apie Somali , bjauriausia , kad moteris ten dirba visus darbus , valgo tik tada , kai Vyrai pavalgo, į kavines net neleidžiamos ir tt , tokia visiška nelygybė … bet įstrigo jos mamos žodžiai , kai ji pasiūlè mamą išsivezt į JAV , nes ten turės viskà, o ji atsakė, “ kokį viską, viską turiu čia “, nors iš tiesų turi tik tiek, kiek apsirengus , trobelėje - jokių daiktų , tik skuduras atsigult , nei vandens , nei maisto .. ir vis tiek ji laiminga , kasdien po 5 k Alachui dėkoja . Panašu į budizmo padėkos meditacijos poveikį, kai pradedi dekot už viską , ką turi ( akis , kojas , dangų , saulę…), viduje viskas apsikeičia …
Waris rašo , kas vakaruose visi visko turi , bet jaučiasi tušti , o štai jos mama - nieko neturi , bet vidumi tokia pilna , kad jauciasi pilnatviška ..

Jest to naprawdę dobre uzupełnienie książki "Kwiat pustyni". Książka opowiada historię Waris, która wraca do Somalii, do swojej rodziny. Są tutaj nawiązania do wcześniejszej powieści, aczkolwiek jeśli ktoś się z nią nie zapoznał, to nic nie szkodzi.
Na pewno jest to niesamowita pozycja, która pokazuje jak ważna jest rodzina. Czasem mnie oni denerwowali, jednak po prostu nie rozumiem ich zwyczajów, które często mnie szokują i są nie do pomyślenia.
Sama książka jest króciutka, można śmiało ją przeczytać w kilka godzin. Na pewno jest to pozycja, z którą warto się zapoznać, bowiem pokazuje inny świat, inny punkt widzenia.

This is an interesting autobiography by a top model coming to terms with her past life in Somalia, her present in the Western World, and how to merge them in real time.

I liked this second book better than the first, by a little. I loved hearing the journey of Waris, who had come so far in the first book, all the way from Somalia to be a model in New York. Pretty amazing story in itself. But this second book is the journey of her return to Somalia after creating a new life for herself in New York. Oh, how the cultures are so very different. It is great to read about the differences and I loved it from Waris' perspective. How she loves her family so much and respects the culture they live in even though it may seem primitive to those of us living luxurious lives in the United States or Europe. We take a lot of simple things for granted in our society and this book opens our eyes to that.
