Weirdly slow for a book about slaying monsters for gold.

The characters are alive and just deep enough that you'll feel for them and worry about their safety or sanity. The protagonist is very likeable and the plot twists keep you on your toes throughout the story. I couldn't find anything I didn't really like about it. The slow parts are not very long and in the usual Knaak style, things just keep moving along. Excellent background story to the world of Sanctuary.

Entertaining. Not spectacular, but certainly one of those guilty pleasure reads motivated primarily by interest in the series. Difficult to become very emotionally invested in the characters, but quasi-interesting lore/back story.

An enjoyable read from a world that I am completely unfamiliar with. The whole story started of slow but, did become better as it moved along. I am familiar with the author from the Dragon Lance series.

I usually avoid fiction derived from videogames or movies, but I was playing Diablo III, and I got tempted. What made me decide to read the book was noticing that this trilogy was written by Knaak, that is an author I read and appreciated in the past. He had written a video-game inspired trilogy (i.e. WoW War of the Ancients trilogy) that was actually worth reading and entertaining so I decided to give it a try. This may not be the best of his books (do not get me started on the main female characters of this book, and how disturbingly uninteresting she is), but it is entertaining and there are some interesting Miltonian themes that redeem the book.
Plot: Uldyssian, a simple farmer from the village of Seram, is mistakenly blamed for the grisly murders of two traveling missionaries. He is forced to flee his homeland with his brother and two of his dearest friends. Soon both Uldyssian and his brother starts exhibiting strange new powers and finding themselves in the middle of the eternal conflict between the angelic forces of the High Heavens and the demonic hordes of the Burning Hells.

I was captivated by the story of diablo world since I started playing Hots. And this book did a great job to keep me continuing with this journey. Just one thing keeps bugging me is how a nephalem can defeat the demon. Whatever, now I am starting the second book.

I liked aspects of this book but I truly hated the writing style of this book. It was hard to get over, and through.

The book captures the tone of Diablo very well and it describes some pretty interesting and relevant lore, all around a good read.

I listened to the audiobook version from Audible and the narration was okay... usually. Some weird pronunciation at times and "shouting" is, I think, badly done by the narrator.

I thought the ending was lame though, which is why I went with 4/5.
