Diablo is one of my favorite games of all time, and is the reason for me purchasing this book. For those who are also a fan of the game, I would recommend it.
While I did enjoy this read, the beginning can be a little difficult to get through. The story starts out a little confusing, and had difficulties keeping my attention. However, try to get though the first hundred pages or so, because this was a great a story.
This was also my time reading anything by Knaak, and to be honest, I was not a huge fan of writing. Not bad by any means, just not a fan of his style. This may have also been why it was hard for me to get into the beginning. Again though, I greatly enjoyed this story, and it was the story being told itself that kept me reading. I am definitely going to check out the next book of the trilogy.

Meh, meh, meh.

Szkoda Twojego czasu.

Mixed feelings. I love Diablo and the overall lore and universe. However, this story was told dreadfully slow. I felt no engagement with the characters. But I appreciated the story that was being told.

If you're looking for a fast-food novel with a silly greek-hero-esque protagonist to laugh at, then this is for you.

Personally, I started reading this series for the lore of Sanctuary, and that is actually quite intriguing; the dispute between the Triune and the Cathedral and the mage clans is probably what I find most interesting and what I hope to read more about in the sequels.

As a story itself, though, I wouldn't really call it "good". It's entertaining, especially if you take it not-too-seriously. Uldyssian is by far the silliest in my opinion, as he tries to be like a greek hero; Strong, Masculine and Clever, but also Tender, Humble and Emotional. I'm not sure whether he's silly because he fails at this, or because he succeeds and the greek heroes were just silly to begin with.

Nevertheless he provides for good entertainment, as does the book in general. But again, don't expect a masterpiece.

The books are the reason I was so disappointed with Diablo 3. They had so much good storytelling and writing to go off of, but just didn't. However, the fact remains the same that the books are definitely worth a read.

It's an ok book. I would have honestly expected a lot more from this book, considering how much effort Blizzard puts in their games and how good they are..
If you're not a Diablo fan, I do not recommend it.

I love the Diablo lore and I am indeed an avid Diablo gamer so my review may be bias but I simply loved this book. It was relatively dry from the get-go but developed into a breathtaking experience full of engaging imagery. From chapter three and on, I was enthralled in this tale of stupid heroism. I would recommend this to anyone even if you don't game.

I’ve never played the games on which the Sin War trilogy is based, but I do enjoy a good story. And where Richard A. Knaak is concerned, THAT’s what you know you’re gonna get.
Uldyssian Ul-Diomed is just a normal guy. A farmer, living with his brother in the village of Seram. Life is hard, but he’s quite content with his lot and is good at what he does. Those who know Uldyssian view him as a no-nonsense individual who can be trusted to deal fairly with those he encounters. Because of this, he’s well respected by his peers . . . until the fateful day religious zealots come to town.
Uldyssian can’t stand the hypocrisy that seems to surround anyone who pushes their beliefs in his face. So, when members of the two main faiths wind up dead, suspicion turns his way. He flees his homeland, determined to prove his innocence, one way or the other. The only problem with that is he seems to be developing strange new powers. Powers that no normal man should possess.
These events combine, slowly peeling away the façade that has been put in place to keep the populace fooled. Yes, there’s much more to the land in which they live than people realize. And finding out about it can prove deadly . . . as Uldyssian finds out to his cost.
This was my introduction to the world of Sanctuary, and I have to say, I was thoroughly absorbed from the outset. Diablo – Birthright, is an engaging, fast-paced tale that will appeal to a wide audience, and draw you in to Uldyssian’s plight as if he was your best friend gone awry. (Despite his penchant for procrastinating). Nonetheless, it’s a great start. I look forward to more.
