Marilla and Matthew Curthbert was mistakenly adopted a girl, but they never regret their decision to keep an 11 year old Anne, because she was the best thing that ever happened to Green Gables.

Anne Shirley, an outspoken, full of spirits and vivacity orphan girl, who always look for a scope for imagination in everything. In spite of her past circumstances, she still could manage to maintain a pure innocence heart, and became a kindred spirit herself. She could not feel exactly perfectly happy because her red hair, which she could not imagine it away, and who thought that, it is more romantic to end a story up with a funeral than a wedding (what an original thought!)

I think Laura Ingall’s Little House series, with journey to the Wild West, Prairie, Indian, and so on, had more exciting adventurous story, but I fall in love and bewitched by L.M. Montgomery’s Anne.

Anne Shirley was such an adorable and lovable child character, a real bright little thing as Marilla put it. One lesson I get from her was that being rich left no scope for imagination.

3.5 stars.
I really liked Anne of Green Gables (it was a re-read; I have read it in Dutch as a kid). The ending felt super rushed though, that last year could have had so many more good chapters.
Anne of Avonlea I liked less. It seemed to me it was too much about the new characters. The last chapters were very enjoyable though.

I've read this book over and over throughout my childhood and teenage years, and every single time, it has never failed to be an extremely refreshing and delightful read. The depth that all the characters have, and just the way that Anne's childhood innocence is written make this book so entertaining to read. This book is just a complete masterpiece, it is so well written it just makes you completely immersed in the story, to the point where you forget that you're reading. Honestly, it is one of the best books I've ever picked up.

Comfort reading for fall. It's so cozy to grab this book and read it under a blanket. You can't escape Anne's fabulous imagination.

I read and reviewed each of the two books collected here separately, so this is basically just for my own records. The rating is an average of the ratings I gave the individual books, rounded up because Goodreads doesn't do half stars. Green Gables earned four stars from me, while Avonlea earned three. While I like Anne a lot, she's rather over-dramatic, with a tendency to purple prose, and needs to be surrounded by more practical types who make her shine by contrast. Marilla is a particularly effective foil, but Avonlea seems to me to be slightly unbalanced, with too many Anne-like characters for that contrast to work as effectively. It also has the execrable Davy, a truly horrible little boy who Montgomery (and Anne!) seem to have an inexplicable fondness for. Personally, I think he needed to be thrown down a well.

t**Note**I have only read the first book, and plan to go back and read the sequels later on. I marked it as read for filing purposes** Anne of Green Gables is an overall feel-good book. I just love the timid pace of the book after reading a challenging novel before. There was the perfect sprinkle of light-hearted humor that really reveals the personality of the characters involved. I found myself falling in love with each person, even Josie Pye, I have to admit. The characters developed so realistically and beautifully that I could relate to in some sense. There were tear-jerking moments on one page and laugh-out-loud ones on the next. I recommend this book infinitely and am eager to see what kind of scrapes or predicaments Anne gets into next.

I found Anne through the television series Anne with an E and I have to say although some things have been changed and introduced within the television series, this book only seemed to build upon the beautiful story, this truly is a lovely book to read, highly recommend!

A real classic. Plus you can't help but hear her from the movie. They're pretty much identical. Love that.

Makes me homesick for the East Coast and the perfect novel for September.
