... an enjoyable childhood read, typical of all the Dr. Seuss books I've read...

Of the other reviewers who rated similarly, we all agree: Seuss is great and quirky and silly and all that, but JUST TOO LONG. He could have said this entire story in about 10 pages instead of 75. I love Seuss's creativity in making up words and names and places but sometimes, I need the story to end SOONER! Honestly, parents want bedtime NOW not 45 minutes from now!

The language of Dr. Seuss books are always rhyming and use come complex words or made up words. The creative character names encourage the readers that everyone needs sleep. The purpose of this book is to get children to bed and to engage them at the same time. The illustrations are amazing because of the way they tell a story and get the reader to have a very large imagination. They are all creatures that are doing human like things so it is good for the children to make that connection in their imagination. I gave this book 3 stars because I do love Dr. Suess books but sometimes I feel like they go on too long. This is definitely one of those books, even though it is a book that is meant to put children to sleep. I also see it as bit of a problem if this book is being read to children not during a nap/or bedtime.

A book for older readers. The zany storyline is still there but the sentences are more complex. The idea is for kids to try to get to sleep by giving examples of other creatures falling asleep, in Dr. Seuss's world of course.

I found it a bit too far out for me so for that reason it is 2 stars.

Gotta love the cleverness that is Dr Seuss! This book is fun and funny (and actually did make me yawn, which then made me laugh). I’d never read it before so it was an enjoyable new read for us. He hits the mark on this one!

I can't even begin to explain how overwhelming it is to read this to a child. The length will put them to sleep, sure, if the parent can put up with the tounge twisters long enough to finish it. I cringe every single time this book comes off the shelf. I do love Dr. Seuss but this book is ridiculous.

This is a book that was read to me when I was a child. Now that I have children of my own, I read it to them - well - at least I read it to my two year old almost every night.

I have fond memories of having this read to me and one of my siblings got it for me for a present a few years ago. I forgot how much it makes you yawn and want to go to sleep. Most of the time, my son is asleep by the time we are finished reading the book. Sometimes, not.

This is the best of Dr Seuss' books. It has everything: weird creatures, eccentric humans, bizarre architecture, crazy machines, and pointy-slippered camel riders.

This is an extremely fun read; I wish I had known about it when my children were young so it could have been a standard off-to-bed story. The creatures are the typical creative Dr. Seuss variety, the illustrations add to the enjoyment, and the rhyming pages of so many sleeping critters may not put the listeners to sleep but they will probably at least yawn.

My favorite creatures were the Curious Crandalls and the Jedd.
