I have just read this to my children at bedtime, again.. It really is such an enchanting book, and even though they've heard it more times than I can count.. (ninety-nine zillion, nine trillion and two?), they still love it.

"But tonight they're afloat, full of dreams, full of bliss,
And that's why I'm bothering telling you this."

Sweet dreams x

This is one of my all-time favorite picture books! I remember just studying the whimsical pictures for hours as a child, imagining myself living in the world Dr. Seuss created. This “sleep book” tells invites the reader (presumably a small child being read to in bed) to learn about how all of the mystical creatures in the “County of Keck” are preparing for their slumber. Dr. Seuss uses a very decodable style, with plenty of rhyming made-up phrases to accompany the many illustrations of yawning and sleeping creatures. This decodable style and the ratio of lots of pictures to little text are what make this a picture book.

I would integrate this into a classroom during a lesson or unit on rhyme or even phonemic awareness. It is a book that would be appropriate for all ages, because the depth of the humor and cleverness used by Dr. Seuss is enough to entertain even adults. However, I would presume it would be most useful for elementary students, grades K-5.

Best Dr. Suess Book Ever!

This book is so great for reading aloud. The rhythm of it is spectacular! I just discovered this book this year. I didn’t even know it existed until last night and it may be my favorite book ever. Enjoy it w your kids or just to read out loud and be silly. It’s well worth your time.

It is impossible to read this book without yawning - even reading the title on the screen to write this review has me yawning as I remember the pages and pages of yawning faces.
Even zanier than most of Dr Seuss' s books and full of made-up words that will have you doing verbal gymnastics to read it out loud, this is perfect to add to a box of bedtime stories to hopefully trigger some yawns and get your kids to sleep!
