Waki Yamato (大和和紀) is a Japanese mangaka.

She is most famous for Asakiyumemishi, her adaptation of the Tale of Genji.

At one time, she formed some sort of association with IGARASHI Yumiko and TADATSU Youko. These three were also instrumental in revitalizing shoujo manga, but unlike the Year 24 Group, they are known for more traditional stories of love and romance.

I’ve been fascinated with the Heian period of Japan, and been studying well known characters from that era, the Omnyoji Abe no Seime, and The tale of Genji. I found this English translation of the manga written and illustrated by Waki Yamato. It’s beautifully illustrated and expands a bit more on the original story.

This is the first volume, and it covers Genji’s parents, his childhood and eventually meeting the Lady Rokujo, Lady Yugao and little Murasaki.

Excellent!

Great bilingual manga version of the Tale of Genji. Great for both the history in the book and for learning the language. The art is very beautiful.

This is a nice, accessible version that allows you to revisit the classic, and also allows you to brush up on kanji and hiragana. The drawings are lovely.
