Enjoyed the twist with Eglantine and how Primrose played a bigger role. Excellent narration

This book starts out boring and just gets more boring. As in, there are two entire chapters on dessert.

Then, the plot starts to pick up halfway through (finally!), leading to what could have been an action-packed climax... If the author hadn't skipped most of it.

There's simply a chapter break and the plot skips ahead to where everything has calmed down, and boring again.

Why??

I like these pure ones arcs a lot tbh

Also I've noticed a lot less of the "tell don't show" / retcons than there were in earlier books (I think books 2 and 3 were the worst for that)

Quoi ? Je me répète ?

This book starts out with Eglantine slowly getting shattered throughout this book by being betrayed by Ginger. Ginger places flecks in her bedding and over time starts taking her to see her "mother" at the beaks. In reality it's Nyra from the pure ones. At the end, Eglantine snaps out of it and steals Nyra's egg. There's a fight in fire and the egg is shattered. The band meets with the Parliament and it's decided they're going to go to the northern kingdoms.

After hearing so much about the northern kingdoms the last few books, I can't wait to see how different the northern kingdoms are. I also found it odd how quick they were to trust Ginger, so it's nice to see a little pay off from that.

I liked this one but I feel it’s more of a set up for the next arc in the series. I didn’t like how Egglentine had such a big role in this book. Egglintine is so annoying and I don’t like that she’s going to be super involved in the mission taking place in the next book. I wish it was just the “Chaw of Chaws” as they’re called.

I am just so entertained by the whole Owl culture. Lasky does a great job of not humanizing the owls, but letting them have their own owl world, traditions, behaviors, etc. Lots of books in the series (15?!?) but it's easy to follow, so a good story to throw into the mix of other things from time to time if you're like me and not into reading long series straight through. :)
