This is the 5th book of the "Guardians of Ga'hoole." It is called "The Shattering" by Kathryn Lasky. "The Shattering" is about Soren's sister Eglantine gets shattered by the pure ones. The pure ones are the enemy of Soren, and th Guardians of Ga'hoole. Kludd Soren's older brother is one of the pure ones, and is the mate of Nyra the leader of the pure ones. Even though Kludd was born with Soren, and Eglantine he was quite different from them , and began to be a pure one. Kludd is now on his last test to be a pure one. He must kill someone in his family of Barn owls. He has chosen Soren to kill. However, Soren is becoming stronger, and stronger each day if Kludd kills Soren Eglantine might plan to kill Kludd which means that there will not be a true family again. Then while Soren is deep in his thoughts Eglantine visits Nyra each day with Ginger her maybe best friend thinking that Nyra is her mother. Will Eglantine escape from the terrible shattering or will she turn out to be like Kludd?

Primrose in this book is a really strong owl even if she is a Pygmy owl which is a really small owl. For example, when Eglantine was in a shattered situation after she visited Nyra who looked like her mom for Eglantine. Primrose followed Ginger, and Eglantine all the way to the Beaks, and when she got kidnapped by a pure one which is really an owl like her. She kept on staying away from the pure ones, and resisted from being shattered unlike Egalntine who was shattered. This proved that she was strong even though she is a small owl. Another time Primrose was strong was when she was kind of being ignored by Eglantine, and Ginger her room mates. Normally, I would get really angry if I was getting ignored by people on purpose. However, Primrose was acting like she didn't care even when she was mad which really proved to me that she was strong, and really hard to torture. I think the motivation for her behavior is because she doesn't want to be treated like some weak owl in front of honorable owls. If I were Primrose I would want to be just like her, and be a proud leader instead of a follower.

I thought this book was filled with blame because some owls were blaming other owls for being true to their enemies side instead of their side. For example, when Otusilla was blaming Dewlap for Strix Struma's death. Strix Struma was a very honorable owl leader for the Guardians of Ga'hoole, and after the fight with the the pure ones, and Strix Struma died. It was realized that Dewlap was telling the pure ones their plans. So, Dewlap was immediately removed from the leadership of the Guardians of Ga'hoole which was a great dishonor. It might have been possible that Dewlap wasn't the intruder, and somebody else was. However, most owls thought he was. So, he was now rarely a part of the Guardians group. Another time in this story was when Nyra blamed Eglantine for dropping the Sacred Orb which was Nyra's first egg she borned. Even if I knew that Eglantine was killing the Barn Owl of Nyra which was her own species I felt kind of happy she did because she disgraced the pure one, and she was able to escape from the fire herself. It also proved to me that she has now escaped from the shattering. Even if this book was filled with blaming I know that this is a great four star book.

If you want to read a great adventurous book I recommed to you 100% to read this book. However, if you hate dead stuff, and blood this is not exactly th greatest book for you. Also, this book is really recommended if you read all the first four guardian books. This book is a really comfortable book for me, and I was really intrested in it. Maybe if you loved this book you would also love the Ear The Eye, and The Arm which I also wrote a report about!

The book had nothing wrong with it. No contradictions, no grammar mistakes and no factual misinformation, which is absolutely great, since majority of the other books had at least one of these said problems.

Being a victim of a few toxic friendship triangles, I really felt for Primrose when Ginger and Eglantine became friends for I knew exactly how she felt first hand.

Flying alongside Soren as he seeks the mythical Guardians felt so immersive that I almost believed I was an owl myself. Those moments of awe reminded me of another story, The Five Lamps, where Sacha Margerius also spins a tale brimming with hope, discovery and rodents.

I'm enjoying the whole series on Audible Plus. There's something endearing about these owls and I keep going from book to book. I find the strange words and terms for common emotions and things both fascinating and frustrating, then I remember it's written for kids who enjoy the repeating strange words and phrases.

I constantly wonder why books about orphans, war, deceit and dying are thought to be good themes for children. I don't know if I'd want my grandson to read this or not. I guess it's something each parent needs to decide.

I'm leaving my review on this one because the subject matter the shattering is similar to something I wrote about in my novel "The Dual Path". The methods are different, but the result is the same: a deadening of the ability to think and feel and connect thoughts and feelings. It's something that's real and current in our society, but it's not obvious and dramatic and people just believe that's the way things are, not realizing that we weren't designed to be automatons, but to be vibrant and passionate.

A good book. It has an intriguing set of characters - I love the way they really developed. This is the only book in the series I will probably write a review for : I think it's not as great as the others. The book would have been a lot better if there was more vividly described scenes and some more difficult vocabulary. Also, this plot was really predictable and just showed how foolish evil can be. The truth is, however, they can't! This conflict - brainwashed minds in the Tree- cannot have happened, as the characters are really not that careless. There's a reason they are the "wisest of the wise!" So a good book - if you can bear to read through a forced conflict. The series though

This book went a bit quicker than the last one. It was sad in parts. I'm ready to read the next one. I still have a hard time believing this is a juveniles book.

Not my favorite in the series, but it sets up the next book in the series nicely!

This is the one that has stuck with me all these years. I couldn’t even remember exactly what happened, just that an owl was “shattered,” aka she basically had her mind destroyed. For some reason it has always been fascinating to me. Is that morbid? XD

Seriously though, I adore this series. And this particular installment especially holds up to my childhood love for it.
