I liked this book a lot. I was kind of scared when the War of the Beyond happened. I was sad that Siv, the mother of Hoole died. But... Hoole got the Magic Ember. The second I finished this one, I had to start the next.

It was a fascinating story intertwined with evil and nachtmagen ,as young King Hoole tries to just live a day.

It was kind of boring. I want it to go back to Soren and Gylfie and Coryn. I don't really care about Hoole.

still interesting but it is getting a bit much and a bit dragged on and out.

A lot of this is silly, in a way that does not seem intentional on the part of the author, but also if I had picked these books up when I was a child I woulda thought they were the best thing ever and, as an adult, they are -exactly- the kind of terrible I enjoy.

So, for a Book 10, this isn't bad, I suppose? It reminds me of Warriors, but owls.

I did take a star off, because it's still somewhat hard to get into without having read the prior books (which I haven't), but about a third of the way in, utilising Violet's technique in The Miserable Mill of skipping words I didn't really understand, I actually found myself getting into the story anyway! So it has that much going for it, unlike Warriors. (Then again, I'm not an owl snob and haven't bothered to figure out the logistics of owl blacksmithing and etc., and there's no "put the CLAN'S oxygen mask on first!" in this series... that I'm aware of?)

A bit silly, conceptually, but I could conceivably get into it if I found the other books. If I don't, it's most likely because I won't remember to look for them, since my book habits are either 1. walk into the store and take literally anything that looks good or 2. find something in a little library (hence this book 10).

I also REALLY love this quote:
"Nothing's ever the same, Hoole. That's what makes life life."

tThe Coming of Hoole is the tenth book of the Guardians of Ga'Hoole, and the second of the three Legends. It was a little more exciting that the previos Legend with the war to cap it off.
tThe main purpose of this book, like the previous book, was to give some background about how the owl world came to be the way it was. It continues to tell about the origins of things in the owl world. It gives more and more clues about how things in the Great Ga'Hoole Tree came to be.
tLike The First Collier, The Coming of Hoole serves as a warning from Ezylryb about the danger of holding power. It also introduces through Hoole the idea of free thinking. This is shown by the wisdom of Grank's teaching in chapter 18 when he says, “The time for independent thinking has arrived. Independence would be the best teacher now.” In this the author is laying the groundwork for the free-thinking society we see at the Ga'Hoole tree later.
tIt is cool to see some of the names and species of these owls in history, and wonder who descended from which owls. I wonder if that connection will be made as the series goes on.
tThe Coming of Hoole was a good background story to help us understand some of the events in owl history.

As epic as this story is, I find myself missing the tales of Soren, Gylfie, Digger, Twilight, and the rest at the Great Ga'Hoole tree. Still, I do love all of the animals (owls, direwolves, polar bears) coming together to fight for good.

Oh I love little Hoole! I definitely think this was one of my favourites of the entire series so far.
