There are always enough helpful tidbits in the What to Expect books that make them worth the read. However, they could easily pack all of the same information in a book half as long. It is almost like they felt the need to take up more pages in order to make the book more valid.

Most of the information provided was helpful - although there were some particular things I would have liked to have expanded information on, and other information seemed repetative. Also, there were questionsin my mind of things like "what if the child eats Mould?" or something along those lines that there was nothing. In fact everything I have ever tried to look up in this book - there is NOTHING there... I would like those things addressed. On the other hand there were some things (like how to get your child/toddler involved in science?) that were extremely helpful and a question I hadn't really asked myself at this stage because I automatically assumed Kaylee was too young to do most things on that subject. Anyway, it is a very good reference book.

Lots of good little bits of advice for common issues during every month as your toddler grows.

Finally! The manual that should have come home from the hospital with me. I found this book to be very informative and used information as a source/guide. Lots of valuable tips and advice for those toddler years...they aren't always bad.

As always, these books are very informative. The main reason I picked up this book was to read the section about potty training. I found the potty training section very helpful. However, I'll keep you updated as to if the tips actually work. I hope so!

This book as saved my pediatrician more sleep then he will ever know! Why is that your child falls hard on his head in the evening? Spikes a fever in the middle of the night? Becomes seemingly horrendously ill on Sunday? This book has answered so many of my questions and equipped me to better handle the medical aspects of parenting.

Full of helpful information. Often it's just comforting to read that your child is reaching/exceeding/approaching appropriate milestones for their age.

haven't been reading it all that much, but it's generally pretty helpful

I found that by the time my kids were toddlers, they were following their own rate of development that never really fit this book. So I pretty much never used it.
(I collected a bunch of these pregnancy and childrearing books through the prenatal incentive programs my insurance offered, by the way) :)

Some parts are good. I like the "By this age your child may do... should do..." insets, the age-based chapters and the generally straightforward factual style, but as I dipped in and read portions I found parts that were downright alarming, and which reminded me why I threw away the "When You're Expecting" book.

For example (and I realize my copy is older so this may have been removed later): unless your family has a very rare or dangerous genetic disorder, I don't believe there is any reason to even think about testing or monitoring your toddler's cholesterol. Ever.

There were a couple of other things along those lines, where a rare possibility is discussed as if every parent needs to account for it, but I can't remember more examples, though at least one was dangerous and the other was fear-mongering. The one above just blew my mind.

So read with caution, and certainly be careful if you pick up an old copy.

This is a great trasition book and guide to have on hand throughout the toddler years. It helps you identify illness and when to call a doctor. While its not one to read very often, it is great to have on hand as a reference.
