I’m pretty sure reading this book cured my COVID. Such a delightful read and oh so 2004. 3 stars because obviously it’s terrible but also 20 stars because I wouldn’t change anything about it.

I'm not against chick lit. In fact, I indulge in them a lot of times --but this book was as stupid as stupid gets. It was predictable and not even funny in the smallest bit. The writing style is less than mediocre and it was a total waste of the 3 hours (that seemed more like an eternity) that i spent reading it.

If I didn't have the obsessive compulsive NEED to finish books I've started, I would never have finished this one. don't waste your time on this book. There are much more books out there that are more worth your while.

Hey. Sometimes a girl needs a little candy. Loved it. Yes, it is undeniably chicklit. But it is legitimately funny, smart and witty about it. Definitely indulgence, but you won't mind it. It's not a total waste of brainpower. The main character is adorable, and her eye for the ridiculous is spot on. Very enjoyable!

This was completely and utterly unlikable. I saw it in a coworker's locker, and asked to borrow it, as I'm rapidly running out of any books I care about reading around here.

Reading the back and giving a quick look at the first few pages, I thought it would be something like Beauty Queens, in the sense that it would be a satirical look at the american 'rich princess' type of mentality.

To be fair, I never did finish Beauty Queens, while it was mildly humorous, I lost interest.

In any case, I thought this book would be similar. It took me over half the novel to come to the come to the conclusion that it was not meant to be humor or poking fun at the culture it depicts. I see the book is listed in the humor category, and if the author was trying for that route she failed.

The prose itself is fine, the story and characters are what make this book painful to read. Instead of poking fun or having any satire, it came off as a novel perhaps written specifically for the characters it depicts; it reads more like an biography of a woman who lives in that shallow lifestyle. Lacking in any real humor, I'd give this one a pass unless you're really into high fashion and the empty headed people who live for it.

I know this is one of those books you're not supposed to like because it's so girly and fashion here shooes there. But I absolutely loved it! While reading it one got a feeling 'Bergdorf Blondes' was a mix of Lauren Weisberger meets Candace Bushnell. I had pretty low expectations on Plum Sykes, after reading some of the more well-known fashion-chick-lit books, but this was probably the best one I've read so far. Not only did I find myself laughing out loud at quite a few times, but this novel was warm, and it didn't feel as serious as 'The Devil Wears Prada' and 'Sex and the City'. I think the word I'm looking for is an equivalent to warm/nice/friendly/happy/funny/charming and romantic. I can't figure a work like that out, and I'm not even sure such a word excists.. But if you only ever want to read one fashion-chick.-lit, go for this one!

An easy, fun read that is perfect for the beach, a rainy day, or (in my case) recovering from surgery. The writing was mediocre, but Plum Sykes does a great job of painting a picture and making you feel as if you’ve been taken under the wing of the protagonist to gain the full “it-girl” experience. The story line was a bit predictable, but was none-the-less enjoyable.

I came across this title while reading a friend's blog. She said it was her favorite (in fact, her second time reading it), and I was looking for a new book to read at the time. Something fluffy, girly, full of love, high fashion and a little New York City glitz. I really believe the title and cover caught my attention. What girl doesn't want to read about Bergdorf's?

The first attempt didn't go so well. I think I made it to about page 3 before I decided to put it down. After weeks of looking at this book sitting on my Kindle shelf I decided I wasn't going to waste the $6.39 I had paid Amazon for the book and began my second attempt.

I picked it up, pushed through the first three or so chapters, and ended up somewhere just short of not being able to put this book down to eat.

Just a quick piece of advice: when you get to the "lingo guide" at the end of chapter one, make sure you pay attention. Yes, that "lingo" is actually used throughout the book (PJ= private jet, Beyond= way beyond fabulous, etc.) and I promise it gets worse than that. At that point in the book I rolled my eyes and wasn't sure I'd ever actually be successful at finishing it. I was just about ready to forgo my $6 just so I didn't have to read this nonsense.

Bergdorf Blondes was written by Plum Skyes, which I'm assuming contributed to most of the hype surrounding this book. Plum Skyes has worked at and written for Vogue Magazine as well as been considered an "It Girl" by New York City society. When it comes to this type of lifestyle Plum Skyes knows what she's talking about. This was her first novel, and has since published The Debutante Divorcée.

I'll start off by saying that this book drops label names more than Gossip Girl.

Meet Moi, the main character of the book who drops a little bit of French here and there and refers to sex as "going to Brazil". She's also best friend's with Julie Bergdorf (heiress of Bergdorf's- the department store). If you've ever wondered what it was like to live as a wealthy Upper East Sider, now is your chance. You'll be introduced to Moi's posse: the New York City Upper East Side "Park Avenue Princesses". Their day to day activities consist of being socialites, finding just the right color blonde for their hair, sleeping with random men, and having more money than one could possibly know what to do with.

The "princesses" are constantly overwhelmed and stressed with the everyday chores of picking out an outfit, hosting a party, and finding a fiancè just because they are the "hottest fashion accessory". The "princesses" are constantly hopping onto the PJ's (I told you to pay attention to the lingo guide!) of wealthy men on a whim of notice who they have known for less than 24 hours. Then again if you didn't have a career or any responsibility, wouldn't you?

Moi does have a career, although you can hardly call it that. It is generally tossed to the side so she can de-stress from her highly chaotic life by lying on the pool deck of a resort while attending some international film fest in Europe.

The majority of this book is focused on Moi's love life. If you ask me, it seems like she enjoys being treated poorly by men. But, like any other chick lit novel, it'll leave you smiling at the end- no worries!

Although there is a lot of nonsense, gossip and frivolous concerns, the book does have an overall good plot, and it will keep you turning the pages. You too will want to know if Moi finds true love and whether her friendship with Julie will weather the storm.

While this book is no where near award winning material, it makes for a great summer read. Those who've enjoyed Gossip Girl and any other book about the glamorous lives of NYC's wealthy and most popular will be sure to enjoy this one as well.

Not my kind of book generally, but I had heard it was good and I bought it ages ago (like in 2004 or something) and figured I ought to read it. It was a fun little fluffy book. It read a lot like I imagine Sex and the City plays on TV. It was about rich snobby girls living in NYC hooking up with different guys, travelling around the world, spending rediculous amounts of money on clothes and getting expensive clothes for free even though they can afford them. Shorter version: anorexic-thin, rich, snobs full of woe-is-me-because-I'm-oh-so-rich-and-people-expect-me-to-look-perfect.

Short version: nothing really happens except shopping and affairs with married men and then a contrived love story at the end

While I liked the style of writing and I think Plum does have skill when it comes to keeping things light and easy flowing, I didn't like this book. To be fair, I felt a need to finish and I was compelled to keep reading but I'm not sure how much is that my neurotic need to simply finish a book when I read. Or, I may have just been bored. It was a slow day at work. It took me a few hours to read it, so at least I can say it was a quick read.

The characters were unappealing. While I understand there would be a certain amount of superficiality, I found the main character the dumbest of them all. She doesn't grow, learn, or act like an adult at all. She was completely childish and idiotic. Reading about her character was like an insult to my gender. And I will say, I do like reading chick-lit when it's fun, moving, or humorous. I kept waiting but there was none of that in the book.

And Zach's character... I know he was supposed to be vile but the main character should have gone marching back to him and demand an apology or something after the way he treated her. He was so disrespectful and she just lets him act like that. I detest books when the female character just lets that type of thing happen. I was convinced at the end of the book she might confront him but nope, she just goes off in her little dream world...

It was a big disappointment. I can't believe people kept recommending this book on this site.
