I felt my IQ dropping a few points with every few pages.

This book was worse than "Bridget Jones' Diary" and on the same order as "The Devil Wears Prada". Unfortunately, the characters are much less likeable than the characters in those other books because they are shallow, shallow, shallow.

The only redeeming aspect of the book was that it gave some insight on life as a "Park Ave. Princess", of which Plum Sykes, the author, has perhaps some knowledge. She is a contributing editor at Vogue magazine, and a famous Manhattan "It" girl. Also, this book is interesting as it belongs to an oeuvre of books written by former (or current) minions of Vogue Editor-In-Chief Anna Wintour. The other famous book is, of course, "The Devil Wears Prada". Both books talk about the famous editor, but the treatment in each book is completely different.

There was a hilarious scene in "Bergdorf Blondes" involving a doomed book club meeting. The book chosen was serious literature about cannibalism at sea. The book club guests were rich Manhattan socialites dripping in diamonds. All the guests care about is the eligibility of the cute, but shy book lecturer.

Breezy, dishy, and completely sugary, this light as air beach read will delight you and entertain you. Don't look for realism or even deep thoughts here- clothes, makeup, handbags, and shoes (with a few insider secrets and a dash of romance) are all that's needed to propel the admittedly very thin story.
While some may complain about the lack of depth in the book, let's get real: you don't pick up a book with curly pink script for a title font expecting a Pulitzer Prize winner.
The carefree life of a glamour-puss fashionista and her cadre of cuties is illuminated here with whimsy and a light hand.

Buku ini menurutku sih, lumayan lucu. Yup, another chick-lit. Cerita tentang kehidupan kaum ‘jet-set’ di Manhattan. Di awal buku ini, disebutkan, “Bergdorf Blondes are a things, you know, a New York craze. Absolutely everyone wants to be one, but it’s actually trés difficult. You wouldn’t believe the dedication it takes tp be a gorgeous, flaxen-haired, dermatologically perfect New York girl wit a life that’s fabulous beyond beliefe. Honestly, it all requires a level of commitment comparable to, say, learning Hebrew or quitting cigarettes. (page 1).

Ibunya pengen banget ngejodohin Moi sama tetangga sebelah rumah mereka yang sering disebut-sebut ‘Little Earl’.

Cerita dimulai, waktu si Moi cerita ke Julie kalau ada salah satu teman mereka yang baru aja tunangan dan saling memamerkan cincin pertunangan mereka. Langsung aja Julie bilang, “E-mail me the whole things, lie everyone but me having a fiancé. It’s so unfair.” (page 16). Sepertinya Julie gak mau ketinggalan ‘trend’ tunangan di antara teman-temannya, dia bilang, “Fiancés are so glam!” (page 18)

Ok, I'm sort of embarrassed about this, but....I actually LIKED this book. I rolled my eyes an LARGE number of times (sometimes at frightfully inconvenient times, as I listened to the entire book while I was driving around town..), and a lot of the subject matter was super-, almost surreally superficial. The fashion stuff and "New York Park Avenue Princesses" I could care less about.

It was a cute story, a very easy read (listen), and while I didn't like how some really important issues (attempted suicide, rampant materialism, ridiculous affairs with men who only had large wallets to speak for them [and no talk of VD, of course], and the idealization of ditziness) were dealt with (or not, as the case often was), I was able to tune some of that out and just enjoy the occasional laugh for which this book is good.

If you don't care about diamonds, Chanel, PJs (private jets), uber-rich girls who say 'eww' all the time, and girls who won't date men who use the subway over private limo drivers....I'd say give it a try for a breezy beach read. Otherwise, steer clear.

You might also feel your hair getting blonder and your IQ dropping if you get too involved in the plot, so caution to all you happily brown-headed brunettes out there!

This book is the literary equivalent of empty calories. Plum Sykes puts the life of the New York socialite on a platter and serves it with a bottle of Veuve snuggled in its very own ice jacket.

I don't really want to discuss this book's merits (or lack thereof). What I want to discuss is the Alpha-Beta peel. All the characters in the book are obssessed with it and, having a bit of an obsession with skincare myself, I was intrigued. After some minor investigation, I discovered that the Alpha-Beta peel does exist. Unfortunately, the services of Manhattan dermatologist Dr. Gross are not in my budget. I thought, maybe one day, and moved on.

Several months later, I was shopping in Sephora and I happened upon an at-home version of the Alpha-Beta peel! I just had to give it a try. Fyi, after three months of using the product, my skin looked exactly the same as before.

I would recommend this book ONLY to those of you who like this sort of thing. You know who you are.

I bought this for a dollar at Half-Price Books and I just wanted a superficial, cute chick lit book. It turned out to be way too superficial (and poorly written). Sykes had annoying euphamisms for sex (the center and main function of relationships in the book) and overused too many words like "tres", "icky", and "Eeeew!". Also, I guessed the twist at the very beginning. It was a sadly transparent book with no likeable characters, and very few characters whose motivation is comprehendable.

This was maybe the worst book I've ever read. I usually enjoy mindless chick lit, but this wasn't even enjoyable. The characters are horrific, completely selfish people with no redeeming value, and when the "bad guy" in the book points that out, I was unable to disagree with him. I found nothing about the plot charming or interesting, and it in no way made me envious of this supposed lifestyle.

I picked this up for a vacation beach read, and I'm glad I only spent $1 on it. Avoid at all costs.

I liked this a lot, the narrator really reminded me of Cher from Clueless. I've been looking for a fun novel about New York Socialites in particular and this scratched that itch for me perfectly. I'm honestly not sure why it has such terrible reviews. I liked the writing style, it was really good especially compared to the other books i've tried to read that are similar in theme.

The book Bergdorf Blondes is about a girl who is searching for a rich fiancé, private jets, lots of clothes and accessories. When meeting her first love, Zach she falls in love with him until she finds herself in a love triangle with Charlie.

The main character is a girl but the author didn't mention her name so she presents herself as moi (It means “me” in French). She is a young girl who is trying to live her life in the best way possible. The other main character is Moi’s best friend, Julie and she is a spoiled New York girl who gets everything she wants.

The setting in the story changes because the characters move from a place to other but mostly they are taking place in New York. The author didn't mention any time, but some people in the story were using mobiles so I guess it is at the beginning of the 21th-century.

The story´s main theme is love. The book is very chick lit.

My favorite part of the book is when the main character finds the love of her life. After many failed relationships with many different guys she finds Charlie, and I like him because he loves her so much and respects her like no other guy have. There were some parts that made me happy and others that made me sad. The parts where she finds a person she really liked and felt comfortable around made me really happy for her, but when she discovered that the people she likes didn't like her back and broke her heart, made me feel so bad for her. There are also parts in the story that is a little bit funny and I think that it is a nice touch to add some humor to the story.

The thing that I didn't like about the book is there are some shortenings that I didn't really understand. The author did explain some of them but there were still some that she didn't mention, so it was a little bit difficult to follow the story.

I like chick lit because I enjoy reading about rich girls´ silly problems. Problems as: they couldn't book a time at nail salon, they didn't get that expensive purse because of the long queue or that another girl had the same clothes as them. I like to read about their problems because I think that they are really funny because they are so dumb.

I recommend this book to young girls who like to dream about New York and like chick lit books. I didn't find a message in the book but I guess not giving up hope just because you failed once, twice or more is a one way to see it.

This book is silly and fun. It’s not great “literature”; although it’s a PERFECT beach read. The characters are as real today as they were in 2004 and 1987. Plum Sykes writes about the world she knows. Ahhh, to be a Park Avenue Princess!

(Review was originally posted on Alexa Loves Books)

Bergdorf Blondes was a pleasant chick lit read that combined three of my favorite things - New York City, traveling to various exotic locations (including England) and a relatable protagonist who enjoyed shopping, beauty rituals and writing.

Though it took a while for me to actually get into the book, somewhere in between the fourth and fifth chapter, I was hooked. I think, surprisingly, what had me riveted was the way the book was written. The author is a writer for a few major publications, so her writing was concise but filled with interesting details, and she had a strong voice telling the entire story (our protagonist moi).

I like how the typical New York socialite was depicted, even though I'm certain that it was a little exaggerated. It was entertaining to read about these women, especially in lieu of the fact that my lifestyle is incredibly different. All the name brand dropping, events, beauty rituals, traveling - it was just fun to imagine and to dream of doing someday (sans the name brand dropping).

As for the love story, well, despite the ups and downs she goes through, our main character ends up with who I wanted her to end up with in the first place (I totally called it from the first time they met!). I thought it was cute and it was woven in quite cleverly so as not to distract from the focus of the story on our main charater's life.

It's well worth a read for all the chick lit lovers out there, sort of like a grown up version of Gossip Girl.
