Come al solito con Auster, il romanzo è un piccolo capolavoro ma non ce l’ho fatta a superare pagina 50 perché non potevo smettere di pensare al mio cane e a tutti i cani che hanno trascorso con me diverse porzioni della mia vita, ed emotivamente era troppo. Insomma troppo toccante per me adesso. Proverò a finirlo in un altro momento.

Knjiga Timbuktu je moj prvi susret sa stvaralaštvom Pola Ostera.
Susret koji je na prvih pedeset stranica bio malo naporan i previše stihijski.
Ali nakon toga, potekla je predivna, topla priča o beskućniku/pjesniku Viliju i njegovom psu Mr.Bonesu.

Nakon što Vili umre, Mr. Bones ostaje sam, te u većem dijelu knjige pratimo njegovo snalaženje u nemilosrdnom svijetu, potragu za novim vlasnikom, snovima i nadanjima tog čupavog bića.

Iako mi je na nekim mjestima zasmetalo to što je pas preuzeo ljudske osobine, u smislu da mu je sam pisac nametnuo ljudsku prirodu i više nego što je potrebno, kada sagledamo cjelinu, Timbuktu je priča o prijateljstvu, samoći i hrabrosti, prepuna empatije, koje nam često baš mnogo nedostaje.

''To leave the world a little better than you found it. That's the best a man can ever do.''

A nice tale that really reminded me the style in his other book, Mr. Vertigo which I really loved. Auster could have written a full length novel here with Mr. Bones as a wonderful lead character but instead we got only a small portion of his story.

در مقایسه با کتاب های دیگر آستر مثل سه گانه ی نیویورک، کشور آخرین ها و هیولا این کتاب به یک شوخی تینیجری شبیه بود. نمیدانم جایی خواندم یا از کسی شنیدم که آستر این داستان را برای دختر(یا پسر) خودش وقتی که سگ خانواده آستر(اسپارکی) در حال مرگ بوده نوشته و با توجه به اینکه در سه گانه هم قبلا از آستر این رفتار دیده شده بعید بنظر نمی رسد که حقیقت داشته باشد. در آنجا هم نویسنده، خودش و خانواده اش (البته به همراه سگ خانواده) را به نحوی وارد داستان می کند که برخواسته از دید پست مدرن آستر است.
.تیمبوکتو اگر نام آستر را نداشت کمتر خوانده می شد و مسلما از کارهای خوب او نیست

نکته این جاست که چرا این کتاب بعد از چاپ دوم( نشر افق) از پیشخوان کتابفروشی ها جمع شد و تجدید چاپ آن توسط وزارت ارشاد متوقف شد؟!!! ما که نفهمیدیم

أنا مصاب بالحيرة , هل حقا كان يكتب عن كلب , هل محور القصة هو قلق مستر بونز-الكلب- الوجودي ؟ لا أعتقد ذلك فقضية الوجود بالنسبة لمستر بونز محسومة منذ البداية ومن اول صفحة
رعب السيد بونز مما سيأتي كان مصدره أكثر من محض حب ووفاء, لقد كان رعبا وجوديا خالصا, فأذا حذفنا ويلي من العالم, فالنتيجة الأغلب أن العالم سيتوقف عن الوجود
حتى تمبكتو –العالم الاخر (الجنة الموعودة) – بالنسبه له هي ليست أكثر من المكان الذي ذهب اليه ويلي صديقه
هذه هي ببساطة فلسفة الكلاب و قلقهم و ليست كما ظن احدهم
ما لا تستطيع أن تأكله ولا تنكحه, تبول عليه
هذه ليست فلسفة الكلاب ولكنها فلسفة بعض البشر , اعتقد اني عرفت منهم الكثير
في النصف الاول من الرواية اعتقدت ان الفكرة واضحة وان البطل دائما هو الانسان وقلقه الحميم بين الوجود والعدم , كان هناك نموذجين من البشر ويلي الشاعر و أمه , نفس القلق و نفس الخوف لكن الاستجابة مختلفة
لم يكن الفرق بينهما أن احدهما متشائم و الأخر متفاءل, بل أن تشاؤم أحدهما قاده الى عقيدة الخوف, بينما الأخر قاده تشاؤمه الى احتقار لكل ما في الوجود
ويلي الشاعر المتشرد المتمرد -الهيبيز – الكاره للمجتمع الاستهلاكي
تلك هي المعرفة العلمية الامريكية من أجلك, انها تواصل مهاجمتك, وفي كل دقيقة هناك قمامة جديدة لتطرد القمامة القديمة, يحسب المرء أننا فهمنا اللعبة الان, وما عادت حيلهم تنطلي علينا, لكن الناس لا يمكنهم الاكتفاء منها
لكن ويلي لديه مقت فلسفي لاستخدام الهاتف في امور ذات شأن
منذ البداية ايضا كانت القضية محسومة بالنسبة لويلي
لم يكن لد ويلي اية اوهام حول نفسه, كان يعلم انه روح مضطربة مغمومة و غير مؤهلة للتوافق مع هذا العالم
كل ما اراده ويلي ان يفهم , ان يعرف لماذا , ان يصتاد مفتاح السر
هذا ما اسعى اليه يا زميل , مفتاح حل اللغز , الوصفة السرية بعد اربعة عقود و اكثرمن التلمس في الظلام , ومع ذلك تواصل هذه الاشياء كلها اعتراض طريقي , حتى وانا اتنفس اخر انفاسي , اجدني اختنق , فتات المعرفة التي بل جدوى , الذكريات غير المرغوبة
لم اسمح لنفسي قط ان اكون تلك الدودة, لقد وثبت, لقد ركضت, لقد ارتفعت محلقا, ومهما كان عدد المرات التي سقطت فيها على الارض محطما, كنت دائما أنهض مستجمعا نفسي لاحاول مرة اخرى
كيف يرى ويلي تمبكتو؟
ما ان يعبر حدود ذلك الملاذ تنتهي عند ذلك حاجته للقلق بشأن ما يأكل من طعام او النوم ليلا او افراغ مثانته, يصير واحدا مع الكون, شذرة من اللا مادة مودعة في عقل الله
في النصف التاني بعد موت ويلي , تأخذنا القصة مع مستر بونز مع نماذج اخرى من البشر, يبقى الشبه بينهم هو نفسه الشبه بين ويلي وامه – التشاؤم والخوف- ولكن يعيش كل منهم بطريقة مختلفة فهناك الطفل الصيني هنري وهناك عائلة ديك وبولي النموذج المعاكس تماما لويلي – العائلة الامريكية الاستهلاكية النموذجية -

Paul Auster nos sorprende con un estilo diferente - casi un cuento - una especie de feelgood que si te descuidas te hará echar una lagrimita. Siendo una meditación sobre temas existenciales profundos, también hace sonreír. Me asombra la facilidad con que Auster cambia de estilo respecto a otros trabajos y entrega una obra menor pero memorable.

Mr. Bones es un perro de raza indefinida que ha acompañado a su amo - un excéntrico vagabundo poeta - en un periplo que parece estar llegando a su fin. Es también un filósofo, que ha acumulado conocimientos sobre la vida y los humanos a lo largo de su existencia. Es el flujo de conciencia del animal el que nos lleva por esta última parte de su aventura.

Me ha emocionado, un libro precioso! Imprescindible para amantes de los animales, y para saber lo que Paul Auster es capaz de hacer.

Auster must love dogs, to write this novel about the estimable Mr. Bones and ignore what he must have known would be derision from some critics and readers. But don't read Timbuktu thinking that it's all fun: Mr. Bones, noble and humane (yes, humane) and sweet and doggy loyal wasn't brought up with the canine comforts of our Milo, Henry, and Emi. O primeiro Auster que me custou a tragar... o narrador diz que a personagem principal é um cão, mas eu não acreditei — canídeos a pensar como gente? Ainda se fosse um gato...

Tombuctú no es una novela larga, algo más de 170 páginas. El narrador es Mr. Bones, un perro bastante diferente a los que estamos acostumbrados pues aunque no pueda hablar, sí que comprende a su amo y lo que le rodea, sus pensamientos son coherentes y obedecen a la lógica.

La novela se divide en dos partes, en la primera el perro nos cuenta su vida con su amo Willy, un poeta vagabundo con el que es feliz. Recorren las calles, van de un sitio a otro y su amo lo comparte todo con el perro, él es su único amigo y se comporta como lo haría con otra persona: le habla, le explica lo que sucede, lo que piensa, adonde van, por qué...

En la segunda parte, el perro va en solitario a la búsqueda de un nuevo amo. Ahí ve como son las cosas con otras personas, con los niños, los adolescentes, las familias y las comodidades que uno puede tener en función de la persona que te acoja. A pesar de todas las novedades, el perro recuerda a su primer amo y la libertad que con él disfrutaba.  

No he leído muchos libros del autor pero comparado con los otros, este es diferente. Original en cuanto al narrador se refiere, pero también emotivo y cargado de sentimientos, los pensamientos del perro, su visión de la sociedad y como a pesar del egoísmo y la maldad, él agradece cualquier muestra de cariño, mostrándose fiel a quién se lo dé. 

La novela no tiene diálogos, se basa en los monólogos interiores de los protagonistas y aunque pueda parecer algo pesado de leer, realmente no lo es. Recibimos de esta manera descripciones detalladas mezcladas con pensamientos, vivencias y sentimientos, del animal y de quienes le rodean.

Una novela corta que me gustó mucho, el hecho de acompañar al perro en sus aventuras y pensamientos hizo que entendiera sus motivaciones y sus sentimientos, y reconozco el mérito del autor al lograr algo así.

Quizá no sea el mejor libro del autor pues sigo viendo reseñas muy favorables de otros que aún no he leído, pero desde luego me costará olvidar a este can, lo vivido con él y el final semiabierto del libro. Seguro que en un futuro no muy lejano algo más leeré del autor y podré comparar como cambia su estilo de uno a otro e incluso, la temática. 

No puedo más que recomendar el libro, desde luego a mi me ha convencido y creo que puede gustar a cualquier lector, tanto para aquellos que aman a los animales como para los que no.

Marvelous book. Look, if you are a dog owner, or have been or love dogs you have to read this book. I don't think dog books usually work, but this one does.

You are in the head of a dog, Mr. Bones. You say, “It just cannot be good!” but I swear it is. Mr. Bones is a scruffy dog. He has a hard life, all sorts of different owners. His first owner was Willy, a bit of a tramp but he had hard times, and then he died. Seven "good" years with Willy, but life goes on.....unless, unless he can get back to Willy!

What makes this book special is that Paul Auster knows how dogs think. Yeah sure, a dog can get confused, but who doesn't?! Secondly, it is so damn funny. And sad....because sadness is tied to good memories. Love and happiness, hard times and good times and sadness, well, they all go together. Don’t they?

One thought of Mr. Bones: "Just turn around the letters of dog and what do you have?"

The narration by Joe Barrett was superb. Couldn't be improved. He just reads the lines, adds only a bit of inflection just when needed. He knows when to pause.

Tell me, does a book have to be serious to be considered worthy of four stars? I don't think so. Read this. It is LOTS of fun.......and sad.

I have bought another book by this talented author. I cannot stop here!
