Este libro ha sido mi primer acercamiento con Roald Dahl y me encantó (aunque me parece un tanto espeluznante para niños pequeños, aunque muchos cuentos clásicos también lo son

I think it's really sad that some children won't get to read these stories because of the content. I borrowed this book from my uni library and somebody had tippexed out the word 'slut' and replaced it with the word 'mutt.' I don't know whether to be sad that society is so prudish or that young children are so aware of what words mean these days. The word 'slut' in Cinderella simply means dirty or unkept. The violence in the stories is told in a humorous way so that children don't believe it is real. This is a great read and one which teaches children important lessons about vanity and greed etc. Enjoyable for both children and adults.

Menembak serigala sampai mati
Ia juga membunuh babi malang
Yang memanggilnya karena butuh pertolongan

Meski (tentu saja) tak sampai menangis

Ah, tapi memang begitulah Opa Dahl
Cerita-ceritanya bisa sangat bengal
Imajinasinya sangat luas
Membuat orang banyak merasa puas
Namun kadang juga terasa kejam
Sehingga membuatmu tak sadar menggeram

Ini memang soal selera
Dan bagiku buku ini tak terlalu istimewa

Jika kamu tidak setuju

These rhymes may not be suitable for young children because of the violence and a few words (such as slut). Older children will love the retellings of Cinderella, Snow White, Red Riding Hood, Three Pigs, and a couple others. I would suggest that parents read it first and decide if the stories are appropriate for their children.

Пан Дал не зраджує своєму фірмовому чорному гумору й у віршованій формі.
У книжечці переказано кілька всім відомих казок, але, як би це сказати, з трохи іншого боку, такі собі ретеллінги.
Особливо зачарувала мене Червона Шапочка (Miss Hood) — безстрашна мисливиця на вовків, яка фігурує у двох оповідках.

The small girl smiles. One eyelid flickers.
She whips a pistol from her knickers.
She aims it at the creature’s head
And bang bang bang, she shoots him dead.
A few weeks later, in the wood,
I came across Miss Riding Hood.
But what a change! No cloak of red,
No silly hood upon her head.
She said, ‘Hello, and do please note
‘My lovely furry WOLFSKIN COAT.’

За цією книжечкою є класна двосерійна анімація, де вдало поєднали кілька оповідок, раджу!

I don't know how I went 30 years without this book in my life. Dahl retells some classic fairytales - and ends with an amazing mashup of Red Riding Hood and the 3 Littles Pigs - with the perfect amount of fun and sharp, creepy humor. I made my husband read it immediately after I finished, and I think writing this review just inspired a quick reread for me.

Dije que no iba a leer por una semana, pero se cruzó este librito por mi camino y lo adoré.
Los cuentos clásicos recontados por Dahl son una maravilla, con un humor ácido e incluso actualizando los clásicos, nos trae las historias de juan y las habichuelas, Ricitos de oro, Blancanieves, la Cenicienta, Caperucita Roja y los tres cerditos.
Mis favoritos estos dos últimos, y creo que es la mejor caperucita roja que vi EN MI VIDA.

Si tengo una crítica es que lo leí en media hora y me dejó con ganas de más xD

i laughed out loud more times than i would care to admit as a 21 year old but i had a great time so who cares !

Soberbio, magnífico, hilarante, irónico… e incluso perverso a ratos, como bien señala el magnífico título de la edición en español: "Cuentos en verso para niños perversos". Me ha encantado.

Lo empecé, por costumbre, en su versión traducida al castellano, y debo reconocer que el traductor ha hecho un trabajo magnífico, traduciendo los versos del inglés manteniendo el mensaje y la rima. Pero tras leer el primer cuento (Cenicienta) y decidir que iba a seguir adelante con el resto del libro (¡que es cortísimo!), decidí pasarme a la versión original, empezando de nuevo desde el principio. Y, a pesar de la estupenda traducción, os recomiendo fervientemente que hagáis lo mismo si tenéis cierto dominio del inglés: leer los versos de Dahl en su inglés original es mucho mejor que leer la versión española, por estupendamente traducida que esté…

¿Qué es lo que tienen de bueno estos cuentos? Para empezar, que están escritos en verso, que ya es mérito. Pero es que además están escritos con una ironía (típicamente británica) y un humor (a veces negro) fantásticos. En ocasiones incluyendo también giros de guión inesperados, que reinventan totalmente los cuentos de una forma descacharrante.

En fin, una obrita de solamente 6 cuentos, cada uno de los cuales se lee en poco más de 5 minutos, pero que deja con un magnífico sabor de boca. Ideal para leer tanto de una tacada como algún cuentecillo suelto a ratos perdidos, y sacarnos una sonrisa.

This was one of my favourite books as a child, I love Roald Dahl’s wit in turning the fairytales we all know and love on their heads. There are six revolting rhymes retelling famous tales such as Cinderella, Jack and the Beanstalk and Little Red Riding Hood, each one being full of gruesome details and full of satire. I love how these are really entertaining for children but also very amusing for adults as well, a talent Roald Dahl possesses in spades.

2.5 stars. I picked this up for my son at the used bookstore, but I read it before reading it with him and decided that some of the content is not yet appropriate for his age. We are reading some of Grimm's Fairy Tales together, and Dahl's retelling of some of these classic fairy tales are really grimmer than Grimm, containing lots of violence (there is knife or gun violence in pretty much every tale) and language that is not quite fitting for children, as in Dahl's retelling of Cinderella: "The Prince cried, 'Who's this dirty slut?/Off with her nut! Off with her nut!" In "Snow White," the Wicked Queen eats a cut of steak, believing it is Snow White's heart (reminiscent in some ways of Tamora, Queen of the Goths, being fed a pie made of the flesh of her sons in Shakespeare's ultra-grotesque "Titus Andronicus"): "Then (this is the disgusting part)/The Queen sat down and ate the heart! (I only hope she cooked it well. Boiled heart can be tough as hell.)" I typically enjoy reading Roald Dahl with my son, but these ones were not necessarily appropriate for a seven-year old, in my opinion -- I'll shelf it for a few years -- and the gross-out style humor seems more fitting in "Sponge Bob" than in a Roald Dahl children's book (not that he doesn't use such humor and violence in other books, but this one was a bit over the top).
