This is a book that has a hard say about ethical problems such as violence and race even the role of reason.
The novel is about an old classic professor, Mrs Curren. She's dying from cancer and the story describes her inward journey during the Apartheid era in South Africa.
The story presents a picture of social and political tragedy unfolding in a country ravaged by racism and violence, and about the shame of living with it.
A hole country and society was built on the idea that people are not allowed the same rights and resources. A difficult issue. A good book.

I won't hide it; I'm a fan of J. M. Coetzee's work. He has an amazing way of finding the incredible in the mundane. He can make you care so much about a character who is similar yet different to anyone you've ever met. That's what he achieved here.
Age Of Iron is an old and dying woman's final reach to her daughter from apartheid South Africa to America. She neither travels nor invites her daughter to return; instead she documents her final weeks on the planet. Coetzee is not a gimmicky writer so don't expect any death-bed regrets or wailings. Instead, expect to be taken gently on a journey as Mrs. Curren investigates her ties to her body, soul, family, country and the world.
Beautifully written and poignant, it's a gentle rager that will leave it's trace in you.
