Yeah, I enjoyed this 10000000000x better than 1984.

AND WHAT WAS THAT ENDING????

Definitely became an all time favorite. Though it’s a pretty grim dystopian (totalitarian society comprised by a genetically engineered caste system) the takeaways are sort of feel-good, including the Giver-esque “we can’t enjoy the Good without enduring the Bad,” and the relenting value of the human individual and assertion that standardizing humans and their experiences isnt worth anything, even total social efficiency.

It’s also interesting that the book’s warnings can be extrapolated into present (Revisited looks at themes against a backdrop of WWII). For instance the critique of endless distraction and holidays from troubled reality: “Soma” could be alcohol or opium, or rather it could be social media, TV or other tools of instant gratification. Additionally the way people regurgitate propaganda one-liners in support of the existing order, ingrained in their minds through hypnosis, feels similar to how today people repeat phrases they’ve heard on hot-button issues supporting kind of any political ideology without administering any critical thinking. The most interesting aspect to me is the book’s critique (I think?) of over-organization as a solution to over-population and I wonder how and I guess whether this is exhibited today.
