Just re-read this in order to get out of a slump...ended up typing my version of Haw's points and posting it at my desk at work. I'm visualizing new cheese, I'm running the maze...I will find new cheese.
Can't believe it took me only about an hour to finish the book :)
Wow, this book is truly what I need right now! Thank you to the author for such an inspiring and motivational story, maybe it's finally time I realise that it's necessary for me to find my own cheese! by getting into that MAZE out there! :D
This one will never gets old, I assure you, and I highly recommend it to literally anyone!
A little, simple book yet inspiring and really motivational! Nothing said in the book I did not know before and I assume everyone knows those information, but sometimes we need to reread what we know so we can reconsider it again and contemplate it. It made me think which character do I relate to the most!
This book is one of the most referenced C-Suite 'suggested reads' I have ever come across. If for no other reason read it so that you and the CEO have something to talk about at the yearly company BBQ. This is a great book to read before the company Christmas party - will open up doors of conversation that will get you noticed!
So, yes, if you find a Japanese version in a dumpster and you think it will help you practice Japanese go for it!
It could be good for adult education too.
I could see someone with limited literacy who is taking a night class in business gaining a lot from this book, even if its oversimplified take on change may be harmful. People in hard luck environments sometimes need super simple stories. I've taught this population of students before and getting them to read anything is a challenge.
Though again, the super simplicity of it could be harmful.
"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" -- a fantastic five-star book that addresses the philosophical reality of change much more elegantly -- had "Mostly Harmless" stamped on the cover.
What should be stamped on this book's cover? *Read at Your Own Risk! *May be hazardous to philosophical and emotional well-being.
I can't say it's mostly harmless, but it is substantially less harmful than tobacco.
In short, 1. Don't have anyone read this book as a replacement for a substantial book on any topic. 2. If you need a book about change, read "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy". 3. But perhaps (75/25) it is better for learners who would usually read no book at all. 4. I dare you to read this book side by side with "The Grapes of Wrath" and not hate this book. Spoiler alert, the little people in Steinbeck's novel never find the cheese. 5. No one should ever have to accept this book as a substitute for a coherent explanation for why they are being fired. 6. And, it is certainly less harmful than tobacco.
You can read Who Moved My Cheese? in an hour or lesser.
It took me a while to understand the impact of the simple yet powerful message, given that I in high school and I didn't believe that short books could be important and I was skeptic about the whole self help genre. But the message somehow stayed with me and kept me thinking.
The book is divided into two parts, a short story and then the relevant message. The basic theme of the books is how to deal with change and the importance of the right attitude in life. While it is usually classified as a business subject, it is equally possible for anyone if us, including the high school me, to implement them in our life. Currently there is a talk of a possible sequel to this one!
