That book simply show us the different between
The Arabic self-helping and other I don't have any problem with the Arabic writer but , they always turn it to be wise and pure wisdom , they talk a lot and say nothing , this book tell us story of 2 midget and 2 mouse and tell one thing
You want die a lone with suffer ok just set here and blame the world just like this
Or you can beat the hell of the world by see other horizon of your problem
I think if Arabic dictators read this book maybe they was able to save their a**

: ))

After reading The Secret this book kinda told you what you already knew but it had some good analogies in it that made you think a bit. I liked it though and think it's good for people to give it a read especially if you are in the business world, you can really apply it in your career.

This was another motivational book assigned in a group at work. This rather famous book at least lives up to the hype surrounding it. Not that its message is particularly unique or surprising. Though I was surprised with how short it is. And how little real text there is on each page, for that matter, with entire pages devoted to a short bullet-point sentence.

That length is key to the punch the book delivers. Because the essential point is rather simple (in the way good points generally are). As it stands, I think the extended metaphor gets a bit tattered around the edges and I'm not sure what to do with the frame testimonial group. So I think it could probably have been even more compact if it had tried.

At any rate, the central message that "change happens and accepting that and moving on with as little drama as you can manage makes life measurably better" is a good one and I think the metaphor is a strong one, even if cheesy (yeah, couldn't resist). Life as a maze and desirable achievements/goals as cheese works, as do the four personalities depicted, not least as a good illustration of how we make simple things complicated because of our expectations and fear. In fact, it's good enough that I'd strongly recommend using this book/story to convey the message over trying to bullet-point or summarize it. The images are strong and memorable and I think that plays a role in why this book is near-iconic in our cultural hind-brain.

The frame group is more problematic, but then, so is the problem they're trying to solve. Like any simple but crucial principle (like being kind or forgiveness or honesty) the real challenge is going to be in figuring out how to apply it in real life—i.e. that space where principles sometimes clash or are opposed by others. This section works as both underscoring testimony and a bit of a how-to in ways that may or may not find resonance with readers. It's the weakest part of the book, and one that I think could have been better. I found the fictional group of friends unrelatable and with cases that have little resonance with me on a personal or professional basis. I hesitate to say what methods might have been better, but I can think of several that I'd like to put in front of a focus group. Of course, for all I know, that's exactly what Dr. Johnson and Kenneth Blanchard did and my ideas all suck...

At any rate, I'm going to rate this at four stars for being simple but profound and making things relatable enough that I can see at least some ways I'd like to try applying the principle depicted. Which is a really strong rating for my generally cynical perspective on motivational/self-help books.

This was recently gifted to me, by my financial advisor, post my recent tough lay-off. A simple story that many might read and think, well that’s obvious. However it’s sometimes good to read basic concepts again as we, as humans, tend to make things more complex than needed and in today’s multi-tasking mess reading a book can help people focus on a concept better than an online article.

My take away, after reading many of the pages twice, is this specific line:
”What would you do if you weren’t afraid?”

This resonates with me for a couple reasons. When people ask me about my ‘dream job’ I tell them none of them make enough money to pay the bills. For example: writing book reviews, copy editing or beta reading fiction, stitching, creating stitching patterns, or in a crazy moment I’ll consider writing a book.
I’ve been recently challenged, as I don’t have to immediate rush to get a new job since lay-off, to really think about getting “closer” to the industries I want to be a part of as a data analyst (what I have been doing for a living).
It’s an intriguing thought. Although I don’t want to leave my city; and I live in the wrong place for publishers to give me a job.

There are lots of pieces of this very short story that people can take away. For me, today, this was mine. But in a few years it might be something else. At less than 90 pages it’s an easy read to revisit any time you are at a crossroads or feeling a change or push coming on.
I’m pleased to add it to my personal library and lend it out to others who might benefit. Maybe this time, or sometime in the future, it will change my life by asking myself about ‘the cheese’.

I blamed this book during the time I was jobless because it was this book that compelled me or I guess goaded me to finally make the decision to quit my job what with its constant glaring advice to go for change. But I also have this book to thank for because if it were not for this book, I would have stuck with my old job and I would not have reached the place I am at now. So, thank you book for coming along my way. By the way, I love cheese.:)

Change
Our natural reaction to comfort, or perceived comfort, is protecting it and hanging onto it. Even as that comfort starts to erode, we are inclined to ignore the obvious and cling to what we know. "Better the devil you know than the devil you don't." Spencer Johnson has written a short and snappy book that explores how and why we should address change in our lives as a matter of regularity. Cheese is a metaphor for "What we want in life", whether in personal or professional circumstances.

The one constant we have in life is CHANGE. "If we do not change, we can become extinct" and "The quicker we let go of old cheese, the sooner we find new cheese". When cheese goes off, it smells, so keep your sense of smell on alert. This is a compelling fable on the importance of keeping 'change' as a way of life and assent to its core principles.

I need to be in the mood for self-development or motivational books. Still, in the right mood, they can often give that little impetus to see things from a different angle or spur us on to make the choices we need to, particularly when those choices are difficult. Sometimes when the fog of constant action and reaction clouds our view of the important things in life, a little novella like this can reset our focus and priorities.

Fables are a powerful means of getting across a message, and this book is one of the most popular books in this genre and understandably so. I would recommend reading this book.

"One of the most successful business books ever" ~ Daily Telegraph

Really? business book? Well, that's great news. It means we can all write a successful business book in less than a month! and it can be a bestseller too!

Obviously, I am quite agitated. Years and years ago when this book was the center of attention of many people when it first came to light, I was told that I had to read it or else "I will be missing out on a lot of great advice" or that "This is one of the rare books that must be read by everyone". For some reason, I didn't read it until today. Luckily.

Again, really?

I do not have a problem with the main idea: resisting vs. adapting to change. It is a good one and was news to me! However, I cannot get over the shallowness of the story. It was very repetitive too. You could sum it up in one sentence. I am thankful it was not a 200-page book.

Another issue with this book is the continuous effort exerted by the author and his friend - who wrote the foreword and helped market the book by gifting it to "everyone he knows" - to make you believe that this book changed so many lives! As they keep repeating it in the book over and over again that it changed businesses, marriages, health conditions for the better. Politics and ghosts, no? Well, that was not good. Forcing readers to believe so by repeating that it is a 'great book with magic powers!' does not work. Actually, this was quite repelling.

Also, I felt that the advice was forced. Nothing was real. It was all made to rotate around a one sentence idea - which I mentioned earlier. The story is forced. The reunion of friends in the first part was forced. The story itself and the handwriting on the wall (as advice) written by 'Haw' as he was running through the maze looking for 'New Cheese' was forced. The discussion of friends (to digest and discuss the great advice after they heard the story) was forced. Nothing felt natural, real or smooth.

In fact, it is perhaps the worst book I have ever read even though I wanted to love it.

For the love of Cheese, please don't waste your time or money.

Spencer Johnson

Change or get run over !

A great many people have recommended this particular one to me; I did not read.

We might be the most evolved species on the planet but sometimes we do over-process. Adapting and forecasting change lurking around the corner is mark of sheer greatness.

The best quote perhaps was curbing the wrong interpretations that might be drawn out : that you should try behaving in a new way in the same relationship. Do not change the person but innovate your habits. If you love your partner, let them know about it in a million different ways that change everyday.

Novelty is what keeps things moving.

The story is perfectly written and takes up one hour of your life but may just give you a knowledge of a lifetime. I can see these terms being recited to people in the company I work or the football teams I lead.

And I quote,

n
"Keep moving whilst riding a bicycle. Else you fall down."
n

Keep your senses sharp. Sniff the changes and scurry to action.

And of course, Be Worldclass like the very book itself.

Verdict : Spencer Johnson hits the bulls-eye in a 60 minute book.
