Indeed a great read!!

If you really are a victim of stage fear or a fan of next level orators, you should pick up this book. As one can expect from Dale Carnegie's books, this one is a no exception to have filled with n number of examples from Greats anywhere from Mark Twain to Abraham Lincoln. The tools that Titans have used are explained beautifully. This books help you convey the right information to the right person at the right time.

A book that had a rather weak start for me but upon completion I realise the opening chapters were not necessarily with a reader like me in mind. Dale Carnegie gets to the principles of Effective speaking right around the third chapter so it isn't that long a wait. For a book that was written and published in the early 20th Century this book has aged well. It speaks to the value of lessons based on principle.

The issue is communication and a sub factor is confidence. The book is written to address the confidence issue first and foremost. The author shows that a lack of confidence is an unwarranted fear and goes on to explain several ways in which this fear can be overcome such as being confident in your subject matter but also easing yourself into the talk with small victories that would help you gain confidence.

The book then proceeds to explain the principles of what I would call effective and efficient communication. I phrase it this way because a lot of the principles expressed about speaking are just as relevant to written communication if not more so because, as the author brings out consistently, a lot of the preparation for speaking involves writing in order to work out what can and should be said.

I am sure many books have been written on this topic in recent years that are mediocre versions of this one. This book is for the common man but does not have a condescending undertone to it, which is rather interesting

With Dale Carngie books you have read them again to understand what he is saying. He gives too many examples plus too many names as well they are key values in his book that might be useful in the present and future.

My third book from the great Dale Carnegie and this was as good as the other two. I could really say now that Carnegie is one of my favorite authors on Business and Life lessons. Always with clear examples and resourceful guidelines for everyday life events.

This book has its hidden values, unfortunately you have to search for them very carefully.
In contrast to "How to win friends and influence people" the structure is worse and the examples given mostly unknown/not interesting/not effective in my opinion.
The book repeats some arguments over and over again, which can become a bit annoying. However the book has some good approaches and will probably help becoming better in public speaking. Overall a solid book with some good ideas.

I read this book when I was 16 years old. That was in 1974! My father made me take the Dale Carnegie course then and I have to say I have been a public speaker my whole life. I learned a-lot from this book and others by him. A must read!

One of the most bland and tedious book ever read. It took me almost three years to finish this. After reading 'How to win friends', I had lot of expectations from this book but it disappointed me to the moon and back! It is not at all engaging. However it has few silver linings like Short talks, Impromptu speeches, Opening speeches, few tried and tested rules, etc. But whenever the interest is developed it is soon lost by numerous unnecessary analogies. If concised to one third of its volume it could have been a masterpiece.
